Build 87 – Private Alpha Release

We’re excited to release Build 87 (r29615 r29662 r29781 r29788 r29807) to ALPHA testers which includes lots of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Facebook Notifications: We’ve added support for Facebook Notifications including popup alerts for new notifications and the ability to view the full list of notifications within the Facebook newsfeed
  • New Ad Options: You can now change the placement of the ads inside the IM window (top/bottom/left/right) and you can also disable Flash ads if they cause performance issues or the animation is bothersome (Preferences > Conversations)
  • Crash Fixes: We took some time to hunt down and fix some of the most common crash causing bugs, some of which were introduced in the last release

We’d like to get this build stabilized as quickly as possible so we can get it released to all users so if you run into any bugs please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com. We’ll keep pushing to make Digsby even better and greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word!

If you would like to become an alpha tester and get new releases before everyone else, download this file and place it in the main program folder. Keep in mind that as an alpha tester you may get a release with a few bugs every now and then. We are looking for people who are proactive in reporting these issues so we can fix them before builds go out to all users.

Update 1 (2/1/2011 12:00pm EST): We just pushed out a small patch potentially fixing a  newly introduced crash causing bug.  We have other fixes ready to go out but wanted to isolate this issue first to make sure it is fixed.  The new release number is 29662.

Update 2 (2/11/2011 10:30am EST): We just pushed out a patch to ALPHA testers fixing all the issues that have been reported so far. Let us know if you run into more bugs so we can get this release wrapped up and pushed out to all users. The new release number is 29781 and changes include:

  • Fixed a bug that caused Facebook Alerts count to not go down when Notifications get marked as read
  • Fixed a bug that caused sounds not to play for Facebook Notifications or Group Chat Invites
  • Fixed a bug that caused ICQ privacy lists not to show if unicode names somehow made it on to them
  • Fixed a bug that caused the now playing status to get stuck in some rare cases
  • Fixed a bug that caused artifacts to show up in the IM window if you set ads to vertical mode
  • Fixed a bug that caused Twitter to get stuck reconnecting in some cases
  • Fixed a bug that caused AIM privacy changes to not show if you re-open the Preferences window after changing them
  • Fixed a bug that caused plugins to stop loading if one of them fails to load for some reason
  • Fixed a bug that made it possible to open more than one bug reporter dialog at a time
  • Small optimization for loading the Preferences window
  • Warn ICQ users if they try to type a password that is longer than 8 characters (ICQ password limit)

Update 3 (2/11/2011 4:15pm EST): One more small patch fixing a bug with the LinkedIn newsfeed takes the release number to 29788.  Pending any new bugs this build will go out to all users early next week.

Update 4 (2/14/2011 4:45pm EST): We just pushed out another patch fixing a few small bugs with the About Dialog and Facebook newsfeeds. The new release number is 29807.

Server Maintanence

We are currently performing server maintenance and some users may have trouble logging in or will start up in “local mode” and resynchronize their preferences once we come back online.  Expected downtime is approximately one hour.  We’ll keep you updated on this blog post.

Update: We’re back online.
