Build 69 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 69, r24489) which implements many of the usability enhancements and you have recommended over the past week along with a bunch of bug fixes. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Numerous Twitter Enhancements
  • Possibly fixed a crash when returning from hibernate
  • Possibly fixed a bug that caused AIM to disconnect a lot while sending IMs

We are close to pushing the release to all users so if you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.

If you would like to become an alpha tester and get new releases before everyone else, download this file and place it in the main program folder. Keep in mind that as an alpha tester you may get a release with a few bugs every now and then.  We are looking for people who are proactive in reporting these issues so we can fix them before builds go out to all users.

Update 1 (9/29/2009 10:45am EST): Today we’ve got some fixes for the Twitter issues from last night’s release. The new build number is r24497.

@ PNaw10 & Matt: VERY well spoken, sais!
  • rispatha
why doesn't it let you know when someone goes offline in the chat window?
  • lenton
I'd like to see Digsby notifications for upcoming events on Facebook or my Google Calendar. I miss engagements because there are never reminders.

    hola amigos
  • Matt, I think you're right, there's no need to be very mean-spirited. Digsby is free, and there is no advertising. So people, if you want to complain, be tactful about it.

I'm not a fan of the new Twitter interface and I hope it goes back to the old way.

@ Naitzirk, I don't think it would be a good idea for Digsby to add Skype capability. Skype is way too big of a program, unless you're just expecting IM. If Digsby adds video and audio chat, they'd have to do the same for AIM, Yahoo, etc. and then it just becomes way too bulky at that point.

Digsby, you do a great job, but remember... there's a point where too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. Keep things simple. Digsby is great for people who have accounts on multiple services and need a QUICK, SIMPLE way to access those services from one program, concurrently. But we don't need ALL the bells and whistles of ALL the services. If I want to do a video chat on AIM or Yahoo, I still have to run their actual program. And that's fine. Likewise, if I really needed to see Twitter updates in a separate window, I'd just go to Twitter's website. The new addition is excessive. Trim the fat. Let's keep things nice and lean.
  • Thanks Digsby...o/o
  • So sad to see so many somewhat aggressive/mean spirited comments left on the blog of a free product. Sure, it's a little annoying to have to wait for updates to download and then install on a fairly regular basis and Digsby doesn't have evvvverything I want but threatening (oh noes!!) to leave a free product to go to something else imperfect just seems unnecessary. Yes, let them know what you want and even let them know what you don't like - all very valid and helpful - but skip the tiring threats.

Digsby - perhaps charging for usage would bring the value of your product up.

    Just my two cents.

You should be thankful for the constant updates and fixing bugs continually in order to help their users as fast as they can. Where could you ever find this kind of support elsewhere?
  • [deXter]
    @kira:

If you're tired of the updates, you should use the stable build. These builds are meant for testers, and you should expect frequent, in-your-face updates, unexpected crashes, loss of data, loss of property, lawsuits, etc. :P
  • i hope it is very will
  • Naitzirk
    add Skype please..
  • kira
I am sooo tired of all your continuos updates. I has overloaded my system many times. All a shame because digsby seems to be useful. I am going to get some other IM protocols. I am not going to be pulling my hair watching loads of info downloading eveytime i log in. Good luck !!
  • is there any way to turn off receiving status messages? i don't care and don't want them popping up anymore.

    about to uninstall...
  • Nick
Here's a bug: my lightweight IM client now has a VM size of 60 damn megs.

"Possibly fixed a bug that caused AIM to disconnect a lot while sending IMs"

THANK GOD. over the last few days, it had made it incredibly difficult and annoying to use Digsby. I considered switching to another client, but I guess I don't have to anymore!
  • Tux
When will a Linux client see the light of the day? It has been promised for a great deal of time!
  • Joe T.
i'd really like to see my Twitter timeline as a tab in my IM window. Harder than it sounds?

    Enjoying the improvements though, thanks!
  • @whyxhello: This along with just Chatroom support in general has been on their To-Do list since they first came out with the program. So HOPEFULLY soon it'll be worked on.
  • whyxhello
is a chatroom for AIM even being considered? :[
  • Andrew
