Build 68 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 68, r24416) which has a few new log statements to help us hunt down a crash that a few people have been reporting.

Update 1 (9/25/2009 1:55pm PST): Thanks to some of the changes from the previous alpha, we have a potential fix for the crash that we’re hunting down. There’s also a few usability enhancements for Twitter and some Hotmail bug fixes that you can read about on our changelog. The new build number is r24440.

I had a new upgrade and after that I can’t connect since 24 sept. It just sits there trying to connect and nothing happens. Long time ago after one of the updates I had the same problem. What should I do?

@james: Email bugs@digsby.com and we’ll help you get it sorted out.

AIM seems to hang on the “Authenticating…” stage. Not sure if it’s my college’s network or not, but it was working yesterday with the previous build.

Bug report sent, btw. I just wanted to see if it’s me or other users as well on here.

According to Digsby this update had about 9 MB. Must be one hell of a new log statement in there. :D

I have sent you 2 crash reports. It seems to crash after I have left my computer for a long time. Came home from work last night and it was crashed on my home computer, came into work this morning and it was crashed on me work computer. Sent (or tried to send, not sure if the one at home went through) a crash report for each case.

Or maybe it has something to do with being logged into 2 locations? Never had a problem with that before, but this latest release might have problems with it. Not sure but there’s some things to think about.

Why does Digsby re-try authenticating three times when the password is wrong? Can the server not decide reliably whether the password was right or not? (It just seems a bit worrying.)

And another question: how can one return to the stable build after trying the alpha? Is it necessary to re-install, or is there a way to stop updating until the next stable release comes out?

How do I send a bug report? Every since the updates this week, I can’t connect to facebook. :(

Same here, why is the update so big? That’s why I checked the blog, I was figuring this was some huge new update.

  13. Digsby Said,

    September 25, 2009 @ 5:22 pm

@Prasino: In case it is a server-side issue, it tries another server.

@melissa: Help > Send Bug Report

@cc_zero: You re-downloaded webkit, the web browser engine that runs the IM window and infobox. It is a DLL so you need to redownload the entire file.

@Prasino: You can just remove the tag.yaml file and restart.

@Randy: Thanks for the crash reports – I think we got this one figured out and a patch went out earlier today. If it still crashes please submit the log.

Very nice and fast turnaround guys! I was actually watching the clock lastnight to see how fast it would be pushed out lol. But, TWITTER’S FIXED! YAY! No more of that stupid “Connecting…”

Now, to play around with all the other stuff that you guys implemented in the change log. I’m hoping that the whole right clicking on the big twitter box is fixed now. Where it doesn’t just say “Copy” lol.

Which it is! :D Awesome Steve and all you other programmers and coders working hard on this! :D

I am sure you guys have been hearing quite a bit about this: When I first downloaded the new build/update with the added Twitter functionality all was well. It worked fine and I thought it was great! Then, on the very same day, there was another update to Digsby merely hours later. After that I can no longer reconnect to Twitter. Just as others have said it simply shows in the main window/buddy list “connecting…” and it never does – not even after 30 minutes or so.

I submitted a bug report for this at the time and I also tweeted you guys about it just now (on Twitter’s site mind you – not through Digsby obviously… lol). I have also tried all of the advise I could read in the support forums to ad-hoc a fix for it (changing the proxy settings to no proxy and back, changing my Twitter password – and no special characters as well, deleting and re-adding my Twitter account to Digsby, etc.)… all yielded no luck.

Basically I believe it must have had something to do with that SECOND update that was pushed out after the initial one which had added the Twitter functionality (which as I said WAS installed and working just fine for several hours).

can’t open by clicking on the desktop icon and can not delete the icon, and can’t uninstall and start over because it shows Digsby is open! crashed the other day evidently, saw a note pop up

When are you going to get rid of the mandatory digs.by URL shortener and give us a choice?

I don’t want to use your URL shortener as it forces my pages into a frame and hides the domain.

    Please give us the option!

Facebook chat keeps intermittently disconnecting. Is it a problem at there end, or is it a Digsby problem to which I should submit a Bug report?

I agree with Sam (2nd comment) i am having same issue…

I loved digsby when i got it but lately its just been crashing. and if it is not crashing it is kicking me off aim and not letting me sign back in….really annoying…i want to stay a loyal fan and user but i think i may leave because its beyond bareable right now i am resorting to aim on gmail because digsby still will not reconnect to aim… filled out reports just like you, submitted emails but no response yet…. hope something happens soon.

The Always on Top setting for the twitter timeline is kind of hard to find as a right click context menu item. Anywhere better to put this so it’s easier to find?

Also, is there any way to show individual Email Account or Social Networks in the taskbar?

  24. Kevin Said,

I was having the same problem as Sam, sent out 2 bug reports. It is still happening. Any known fix yet?

Hey, congratulations is a fabulous application I just have two comments. Do you have plans to make an Iphone (Ipod Touch) app? Why don’t you add “Skype” to it?
Even without this, it’s the most incredible application I ever knew. Thanks a lot!

I still don’t see the new Twitter updates? Am I doing something wrong?

Also, I agree with not liking my URLs shortened. Please give us a choice.
