Build 66 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 66, r24212 r24269) which has a new input box that will be capable of handling multi-formatting.

It currently only does per-message formatting and not per-character formatting but we are adding per-character support right now.  If you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.

Update 1 (9/18/2009 3:25pm EST): Rolled this back for now – not ready for prime time.  Thank you for the bug reports and crash reports.

Update 2 (9/19/2009 1:00pm EST): Fixed the reported issues and taking another stab at it.  The new release is r24269.  Please let us know if you run into any bugs with the new input box.

@Ribos...never mind, all it took was for me to submit a bug report, and now it works. Dumb.
  • Ribos
I have the same problem as Jordan. Digsby after the update cannot log on, it hangs at "Authenticating...". I can't submit a formal bug report because I can't get into Digsby.
  • I agree w/ Ahmed. The digsby skin + IM windows should be fully customizable for color, transparency, and etc. i'd love to be able to rely only on the digsby program and not preset skins i have to find online, although some of them are pretty cool.
  • ahmed
why Digsby not have nice user interface like miranda im that you can modify it or change to be like transparent
  • Hmmm. Strange, I would have thought that all logon details would have been stored locally rather then on the Digsby server itself. So seriously this is an issue, if people like Drizzt321 and myself were not aware of original and prior to downloading the software, would be kind of annoyed because there is not direct information except in this very tiny link (http://security.digsby.com/) Which as far as I knew wasn't shown in the terms of use or license agreement of the software (unless its size 4 font.) to inform Digsby users or collectively new users of your software that you would be storing this (our personal) data on your server rather than locally. You might want to think about a store locally option in future releases as I don't care about the encryption you have on your servers, I'm just not too fond of have all of my details as such in a cookie collection or a database on a server.

    @Mikey Jay
Its not so much the Digsby login, its that my facebook/gmail/msn/etc passwords are saved on the digsby server. That's what I'm looking to not save. The Digsby login would be stored locally, which I have no problem with.
  • @Drizzt321 - Hiya, I don't know whether this is applicable for the Alpha releases but doesn't the Digsby login window have a tick box for Auto Login, if it does untick it, on mine that removes the password for every time I go to log on.
  • Hiya Digsby, quick question are you thinking about adding Skype IM support (not VoIP as that would turn your marvellous app into bloatware look at Trillian Astra as an example) because I know quite a few people who use Skype for IM only. I also would love to see group chat for MSN and GTalk if possible. Maybe you could add this in a future release, look forward to hearing from you.
  • Tony
I update the Digsby, but the software cannot connect the facebook, I am in the NYC, I don't know the reason...
  • Digsby
@Drizzt321: The architecture is designed to synchronize preferences between locations - it is one of our best features (one password seamless login wherever you are). We may change this in the future but it's not on the short-mid term todo list.
  • Drizzt321
    @Digsby

I agree, those security policies are pretty good, but I still prefer to have to type my password in every time I login. I know those security policies will protect my passwords, but even though I imagine few users would specifically look for it, and most would probably prefer with it saved, but I don't imagine it would be that incredibly hard to allow it unless the current code base and architecture is extremely inflexible.

@Drizzt321: Not currently - check out:

  • isaiah
not sure, but it looks like it broke my facebook connection. ive restarted digsby a couple times.. might just be an coincidence.

    add zuuune support pleeeassse

and theres something wrong with the digsby home page, the picture of the buddy list covers one of the "support" options
  • Drizzt321
Any way you'll add a feature to NOT remember the passwords to the individual accounts as per my forum post http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?id=4939 ? I'm not as concerned about my IM accounts, but if I'm going to be doing email and social networking through this, I don't want the password stored anywhere, ever, if I can help it. Even though I know you encrypt it. It can't be that hard to simply make me input my passwords when I sign in every single time.
  • Digsby
@All: It is the ability to bold or underline just part of an IM instead of the whole thing. It has not been turned on yet but this build tests a new text control that will be able to handle it.
  • Matt
Is this update supposed to make it so that parts of IMs can be bolded/underlined/italicized independent of the whole message? If so, it doesn't seem to work. The message formatting doesn't even appear to show up in the receiving window. (IMing myself doesn't show the intended formatting.)
  • @bubazoo - This alpha is not adding new feature but is fixing the unicode support which is far more important than contact sorting since it prevent Digsby being useable for some people.
  • jordan
I cant log in it takes 10 mintues for it to open and log in and then it cant connect to any of the net works
  • Robert
I don't get it, what's multi-formatting? Is there anything noticably different in the input box? Not that I ever used the formatting bar, so that may explain it.
  • Tim
I think this is the single best feature added during the 6 months, if not the whole year.
  • Brandon
@bubazoo you can sort them out into their own group quite easily
  • t3hn0
Could anybody explain wtf is this formatting about? I can't see anything new...

    ty
  • Daniel
The bug report response team is amazing! I love you guys! Thanks for the quick response!
  • I guess what my point is, is why are we adding new features when the current ones have issues?
  • myspace IM and facebook contacts are still being mixed in with the MSN group. is there a way to fix that? so that each medium has its own group?

I noticed there are a few new groups added, like skype and myspace IM Rooms, why aren't myspace and facebook users being put in their own group? that doesn't make any sense? why would you mix them in with the hotmail / msn groups?
  • Neil
Is this going to include multi lines as well.
Perhaps like how groupwise messenger handles it, in that enter creates a new line and Alt-Enter posts the message.
  • Velorium
After you guys get this worked out you should get group chats in order for aim/msn/yahoo. Then voice and video.
  • Warwagon
for the record I was using Windows 7. I rolled it back to the last official release and took the alpha update file out of my digsby directory. for the time being. But don't feel bad about the bug, you guys don't call it alpha for nothing. So we accept the risks when testing alpha versions.
  • Maggie
There are a lot of complaints on Facebook, reporting that Digsby crashed after the update. Please get it fixed soon. I don't want my Digsby to crashed just because of the update.
  • Digsby
Update 1 (9/18/2009 3:25pm EST): Rolled this back for now – not ready for prime time. Thank you for the bug reports and crash reports.
  • Kurt
It doesn't matter the type of account either....any type of IM crashes Digsby
  • Matt
your update completely breaks messaging. try to send a msg to someone and immediately it crashes digsby

    using windows 7 here

    please fix
  • Kurt
I have the same exact problem....I try to IM a contact and Digsby crashes. I'm using Vista.
  • Ian
This alpha makes Digsby crash as soon as I try to type into the new input box in an IM window. This means I'm not able to actually use it for IM. Heh.

I've submitted a bug report. Hopefully your team can fix this ASAP!
  • Mordechai
Getting the same issue. Freezing every time I open a contact with MSN.
  • Jacob
I don't get the point of this update. It didn't add anything. :S
  • Warwagon
Just installed the update. Once digsby opened up I opened a contact on my AIM list and Digsby Froze solid. So I killed digsby.exe and did the same thing all over again. Same result.
