Digsby Just Got Better!

What a week! The reviews and comments have been nothing short of amazing and we want to thank you all for receiving digsby so warmly. We have worked hard over the past two years to make a great communication tool and hearing all the wonderful feedback has made it all worthwhile! But this is just the beginning. We will continue to work hard to make digsby even better. We just released a new version that you will all receive automatically via the auto-update system. You can always read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. Most notably:

  • We added proxy support
  • Made changes that will make it easier to get through firewalls
  • We made a lot of unicode fixes for better language support across protocols
  • Fixed “Out of Window IDs” bug

Our biggest priorities for the next release are:

  • Performance optimization
  • Problems connecting to MSN Messenger
  • Problems sending IM’s in MSN Messenger

Keep the bug reports and feature suggestions coming! Also let us know if you have problems with the new proxy support or if you still experience unicode issues with other languages. If you experience problems logging into MSN please email us at bugs@digsby.com. We will work diligently to solve any issues you report!

  • I downloaded the software last night. It will take a little getting used to but after my Trillian lost all my accounts and "connections" on my laptop, as if I had installed Trillian for the very first time, I thought it was time to find a new home.

I don't need integration with communities like Facebook but what I do need is integration with SIMP. So......

...here is my request for integration with SIMP. PLEASE inegrate this with SIMP. I need SIMP to communicate with vendors and customers alike.

    So.... SIMP SIMP SIMP

    Thank you.
  • Mike
After the update my Facebook chat now hangs at "Loading Contact List...". Did another deep clean where I removed all cache, registry settings, and files and a fresh reinstall with no success. Submitted a bug report for this and the file transfered failed problem.
  • rachel
how do you change your're screen name on msn for digsby.
in my conversation windows it says my email address.

    ive tried everything, please help!
  • Ryan
Love this program. Really in need of integration with SIMP. Making any headway on that?
  • Aaron
Hi all - saw a friend using this and it looks like an amazing program. I installed it, added my AIM, Gmail, Yahoo, and MSN accounts, and everything looked fine - as soon as I added my Facebook info, Digsby crashed. Every time thereafter I started the program, it crashed. A reinstall did not fix this. Can you shed any light on why this might be happening?

    Thanks! :)

    Hi Guys,

    Great App!

My only issue with Digsby is whenever I log into Facebook, it tells me I have a new wall post in my 'Digsby News Feed'. This is not the case for the majority of the time. The bogus wall post appears to have been made at the exact time that I login to Digsby. This is a bug that needs to be fixed in the next release.

Thanks guys, keep up the great work!!!

    Harry

I'm also having problems with msn buddies not showing as online/available when they actually are.
  • Siyang
I found two bugs. One with sending/recieving files. Another is it won't start at startup. Another issue is that yahoo keeps getting authenitication problems. I can access my mail, but once in a while it says failed to authenticate. I retype my password and it works just fine.
  • Ditto with being able to integrate with Simp for encryption. I use Trillian at work and would love to switch to Digsby but my AIM won't connect unless it's through Simp. Might just be a matter of allowing to set HTTP/HTTPS/SOCKS4/SOCKS5 in addition to the host and port for each account.
  • I second the encryption comment as a much needed feature.
  • danno
For starters - love Digsby and find myself telling people who are on Trillian. :) Is anyone else experiencing some users not showing up as "online"? I have a couple of Yahoo and 1 MSN buddy that are online, but do not appear that way in Digsby. They show up online when using the other clients so I know they are not "invisible". Thanks ahead of time, and again.. love Digsby!
  • @João CB - if you have unicode characters in your windows username (ie: ã) digsby doesn't work. We will fix this very shortly but for the time being you can create a different windows username and it will work fine. This will be fixed in the next update
  • I've got the invitation to Disgby from a blog that I read. I've just installed the software in my pc (with win xp) through the download link on the top of this page, but it doesn't work at all. The installation process finish successfully, it has created the short cut... and nothing happens when I click it. Nothing. It's a pity.
  • derry
Thanks for a nice alternative to Trillian, Gaim, etc etc.
So far so good. One thing I haven't found is encryption settings. Is there anywhere I can enable AIM encryption or integrate digsby with SIMP (http://www.secway.fr/us/produc...

    Hey guys,
Great product so far. If I could get it to be 100% operable, it would easily be my new IM client of choice. Unfortunately, connection issues are preventing me from doing so. While trying to connect via our proxy server at work, I constantly get 'connection failed messages'. I know it is not an issue with our proxy server, as Yahoo, AIM, MSN, Gtalk, Trillian, Pidgin, Miranda, etc all work fine with the proxy configuration. Both FireFox and IE7 are configured correctly. Any suggestions?
  • Geo
Whoa sweet, it seems that a memory leak has been plugged! Now only 80 MB of mem usage. Keep it up! But yeah is there a way to perhaps add a plugin feature that allows us to add spellcheck features and other features such as displaying the "Now Playing" song in the popular media players Winamp, WMP, Itunes, Songbird, etc? Sorry I'm probably thinking way too far into the future. ;)
  • rville
Scandinavian special character seem to work now! Great!
  • Andrew
I have heard that there is a way to creat your own skin can you tell me how?
  • Nate
Is there a way to have built-in spell-check like Adium on OS X? Once Digsby has that me and my dyslexic self will much happier :)
  • Peder
Excellent program. Excellent features. Would love to see a little less memory-usage.

Keep up the very good work.
  • @Matt - restart and email should work better. In the future we will send a message letting all online users know when there is an update. Digsby uses your default proxy settings. If you have problems click the "Network Settings" option we added to the login screen.
  • Matt
So far I think digsby is awsome, the only minor thing I would like is to have it so Digsby doesn't show up in the tast bar and only over in the system tray. Also at my work I cannot access any of my email accounts through Digsby, now there there is proxy support how eactly do I set that up to get around my works network?
  • @Bwangster12 - try now and if it is still flaky please email as at bugs@digsby.com
  • @gcstang - that bug will be a top priority for tomorrow
  • Bwangster12
Hi, I really like the prospects of this application.

    Two things I've noticed...

I loaded up my Facebook account and it automatically added the Widget into my Facebook Profile. Only problem is that when I click on it to chat with me, or when someone else clicks on it to chat with me it doesn't work. In Firefox it shows connecting and stays on the screen that gives the link to get your own widget. In IE it goes to a red background, but says nothing.

The other thing, when I right click on my email account in my buddy list and choose Compose new message, it launches my browser and Gmail account. Is there a way to get it to simply launch a IM Email window like Digsby provides when your chatting with someone and want to email?
  • Hey guys, it's Mike from the digsby team. Restart the app and you should have updates to fix a bunch of connection problems.

Keep the feedback and bug reports coming!
  • This program is amazing! I’m looking forward to have a feedback forum! Just wrote a review in portuguese:

    http://2.0.bloguite.com/geral/...

Keep with the good work! I’d like to help with the pt-PT translation though :)
  • gcstang
Awesome product!!! I would love to see this on Linux. I've only had an issue with MSN can't send messages, a restart sometimes fixes that.

Great work! Keep this product going this is the best IM Client so far bar none even with the MSN issues.
  • @Mats and Sohan - now that we have proxy support, MSN/Yahoo/Facebook connectivity and MSN message sending are our next priority

@Robert, JR, and Randy - sent you an email so we can resolve the issues ASAP. We are doing our best to stabilize this beta into a solid product!
  • Randy
    Three things I noticed

1 - Everytime I click to start up digsby, my screen flashes as if the dos mode was being activated then digsby pops up.

2 - I tried login on with a second aim s.n, it just hangs on "loading contact list" never signs on

3 - If I kept the "add aim s.n box" open to long, it would cause digsby to crash

    Everything else works really sweet
  • sidd
oh, my bad, ctrl + c works!
    you guys are awesome!
  • sidd
    i have small request,
how about being able to copy profiles? right click or ctrl + c dont work.
    thanks
  • JR
When I launched digsby this morning it downloaded the update, then the process exited. I launched it again and it exits immediately. I ran procmon but don't see any obvious access denied messages or anything. Hopefully you guys will have better luck figuring out what went wrong. Please let me know what logs you need and where to send them.
  • Robert
I am having the connection lost issue as well. Since the update, I cannot connect at all. So the possibility of submitting a bug report on the issue using the "Help -> Submit Bug" method can't be done :)

I only briefly got to try it before the update, but really like it so far.

    Thanks,
    R.
  • Sohan
I don't knw if its a bug or what but I can't seen any of the messages tha I've type in the conversation window....is this a bug?
It's a hotmail to hotmail conversation and I'm using build 12111.
  • Mats
It looks great, but I do have problems. When I send a message, my friend does not always get it.

    Have you had this problem?
  • I think it would be great to have time stamps that are completely customizable. (for example; %d-%h:%m:%s would display (Sunday-4:35:00))
  • Júlíus Þór Bess
Really nice application. I would really like to see this peace of great software in Ubuntu (that is linux) which is my preference of an operating system. DownloadSquad reported that you are actually developing a Linux version of the software so I'll look forward to that.
  • Thank you for submitting logs so quickly. The email bug has been fixed and the tray icon bug will be fixed in the morning... one step closer to solid proxy support! This will be a tiny auto-update... perhaps not blog-worthy :)
  • @Jenn - we use NSIS installer which registers false positives. You can read more here:

    http://nsis.sourceforge.net/NS...

(if anyone has a solution please email bugs@digsby.com)
  • Jenn
Whenever I download the updated install file, my AVG antivirus keeps insisting that the file contains a trojan downloader... 'healing' it simply deletes the digby_setup file.

During first installation, AVG was registering the uninstall.exe as the same trojan downloader. Several people have mentioned this on the Lifehacker thread on Digsby as well... thoughts?
  • No problem here after new updates. All are working fine. OS: Windows 2000.
  • We will push a quick update to fix the multiple icon bug ASAP. It resulted from a memory leak we fixed.

If any email accounts stopped working as a result of the proxy changes please submit a bug report using "Help" > "Submit Bug Report" so we may fix the problem ASAP.
  • Erik
This update has broken my email connections - except for a gmail account. Working previously were an imap account and two gmail hosted emails.

Something else I just wondered about was what exactly does Digsby do with the .Net? I haven't seen other IM programs pull up any dialogs regarding the need to interact with the .NET installation on a computer. while it is probably likely that they do something, they haven't mentioned it, which makes me curious about what Digsby does.
  • Jose C
Ive updated it and now my Google Domain email isn't connecting. Also, over time, when i keep pressing retry, more icons appear on the icon bar for that email. Any ideas?
  • Kyanges
Since it seems that performance and critical bug fixes are already on the agenda, I'll make a suggestion that is related just to personal taste.

Whatever new themes are included, please, include an all glass theme for Vista. That is pretty much my only request other than continued reduction of overhead, and the ability to set how long we would like pop ups to remain open.
  • Mike
After it is updated, both my gmail and a imap account have failed to connect, but hotmail is okay. Is this related to the update?
  • It seems that with the proxy changes, I receive a 'Connection Lost' message when trying to Sign In to the program. :(
  • Awesome job on getting the update out so fast! I've switched to using this software since it handles much more than a simple IM program. Yahoo mail didn't work in the previous build, but perhaps it will now. I'll be sure to use the bug submission form if the problem persists. The program will be perfect if you can optimize the performance down the line. :)
  • Just Josh
I haven't had very many problems yet, other than a few personal preference issues, which has nothing to do with performance. So it can wait.

I did however notice a bug with the MySpace integration. If you select to have the icon show up in the system tray, and then decide to uncheck said account or switch the view to show it in the contact list, the icon stays in the tray until you restart Digsby.

I'd also like to say how awesome I think the Widgets are. Nice work.
  • Zero3K
I think that it should check for updates during normal usage, and if there's one, prompt the user asking if its ok to download and install the update.
  • Is support for Twitter on the roadmap?
  • Ville
Ya got it now, couldn't believe it was about that because I restarded it just before I read the update news :Z So maybe some check-for-updates thing somewhere. And how about those custom smileys or turning smileys off? So far nothing else has come up, great that you fixed the scandinavian letters!
  • @Ville - Just restart it.
  • Ville
Well my Disgby hasn't updated itself so how can I update?
