Build 65 – Private Alpha Release
We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 65, r24127 r24143) which is primarily focused on ironing out bugs and usability issues from the last alpha. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:
- Fixed a critical bug that caused social network accounts to disappear on login for some users
- You can now flip through entire Facebook photo albums in the newsfeed instead of just the pictures you see
- The Facebook newsfeed is now filtered to match the rules you set up on the Facebook website
- The research module now has its own section in preferences with info and options
We are close to pushing the release to all users so if you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.
If you would like to become an alpha tester and get new releases before everyone else, download this file and place it in the main program folder. Keep in mind that as an alpha tester you may get a release with a few bugs every now and then. We are looking for people who are proactive in reporting these issues so we can fix them before builds go out to all users.
Update (9/17/2009 10:30am EST): We just pushed out a small patch fixing a bug with incoming Yahoo unicode IMs showing incorrectly and a bug that caused Facebook to get stuck in the Authenticating state. This brings the release number to 24143.

“The Facebook newsfeed is now filtered to match the rules you set up on the Facebook website.”
Hells yeah, thanks! No more pointless popups of people I don’t care about, but want to have the option of contacting.

Thanks for adding throttles to the Research Module. i like this idea, and i have it activated. i’d appreciate more disclosure about what KINDS of research projects are being pushed through my idle cycles. Has there been a blog or forum post on this that i missed?

Love the function on two of my machines but on the third the Facebook pop-out is just black boxes. Can’t seem to figure out why (with help from Digsby support) so if you’re seeing the same thing (black boxes where pictures should be) please submit a bug report.
Digsby Said,
September 16, 2009 @ 6:19 pm
@Hysterian: This is definitely a section we plan to build up including those items you mentioned! It does use multiple cores so 25% would be 25% of the entire system.

Thanks for the update!
A suggestion: How about FaceBook (and Twitter) newsfeeds show the avatar as well? As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words..
Digsby Said,
September 16, 2009 @ 6:54 pm
@Hysterian: Not sure what you mean. Status can only be text. If you use Help > Send Bug Report and include a screenshot that may help.
@deXter: Both do show the avatars in the newsfeed.

Putting the tag.yaml file in the program directory worked fine for me to get the alpha (I’m on Windows XP). However on my wife’s machine running Vista it just doesn’t seem to pick it up and although it did an update on the first restart after putting the file there, it updated to 23848 with the old Facebook support whereas I am on 24127. Any clues?
Joshua Kozsan Said,

@Adrian: I have the same problem with my Vista laptop. What I found Digsby is doing is when it updates to the Alpha version, it deletes the tag.yaml file, so when Digsby restarts after the update it reverts back to the old public release.
I don’t know if Digsby is working on this but a temporary fix is to copy the tag.yaml back to the Digsby directory immediately after it updates to the Alpha version.
Hope this helps.

How can we get back to the stable release after having upgraded to the alpha? A reinstall is necessary?

i’m really loving the facebook photos thing ya can now do in digsby! That’s just awesomeness right there! It kinda reminds me a little bit of that PicLens add on for firefox. Only ya can’t go full screen with them. But, still awesome that you can view them in the feed themselves! Keep up the great work guys!
Digsby Said,

@Chris: Ooooh, full screen or popup slideshow mode… great idea!

@Digsby:
But I don’t see the avatars! Is there any option to be checked?
