Build 43 – Friday Treats

We just pushed Build 43 to all users.  This includes all users who are running extremely old releases that have not been updated since last May.  If you have trouble with the auto-update, download the installer directly here:

http://update.digsby.com/install/digsby_setup.exe

The release pushed out today to all users includes all the features, bug fixes and enhancements in Builds 38, 39, 40, and 41 on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Implemented a completely new method of load balancing and authentication.  This will help us continue to scale reliably.
  • Fixed Gmail/ICQ connectivity due to protocol changes. Gmail will not have auto-login for now but we will bring back the functionality
  • Implemented a new version of TokBox for a better audio/video chat experience.  Just click the “Video” button at the top of the IM window
  • Added support for complex languages such as Arabic and Thai
  • Fixed numerous crash causing bugs, memory leaks, and performance issues

If you experience any bugs please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com. If you have any suggestions, please email us at features@digsby.com.

As always, thank you for all the feedback and enjoy the new build. Remember to invite your friends to use Digsby via Email or Facebook.

Update 1 (12/13/2008 5:45pm): We just pushed a small update fixing an issue that caused a portion of users to get stuck in “Loading Contact List” when logging into AIM or ICQ.

Update 2 (12/13/2008 10:45pm): We just pushed another small update with a complete fix for the AIM/ICQ issue.  Thank you to the alpha testers who helped us test this fix on a Saturday :)

Awesome! Glad to get an update. One feature which I really wish they’d add though is the ability to set one’s status to “idle” (yellow icon) manually. iChat does it, pidgin does it, trillian does it…. come on Digsby, get your program with the program! Otherwise, all’s awesome. =D

It would be even more appreciated if you guys could add QQ IM and 126 Mail Account in your program, because it’ll definitely a big deal for all Chinese users. Thanks again!

What is up with the new installer? I launch digsby, it downloads an update, then the updater fails.

Thereafter, the program fails to launch with a “Cannot find python25dll” error or something similar (In retrospect, I should have saved it)

Anyway, I download the installer from digsby.com, and come to find out it’s this “installerIQ” mess which asks me to install a bunch of sketchy software.

ALSO it changed my default browser from Chrome to IE.

What gives? What was wrong with the old installer?

I’ve been recommending digsby to people for a while now, but this new installer makes me more apprehensive to do so. If revenue’s a problem, please find a better way than forcing crapware on to unsuspecting users (and changing their default browser unwittingly).

I’m going to hit up the support/forums/send y’all an email to this effect.

  31. Moff Said,

The GMAIL is working now but still no auto login… good job digsby and please bring up the auto login for Gmail again..

    i’ll be waiting for it..

  32. Jake Said,

    December 13, 2008 @ 12:25 am

Great job guys. I’m with nate (I think) – I wish I could set my idle manually. That’s the only thing I think digsby lacks. Other than that, I’m so thankful for this free software, which is by far the best windows AIM/etc. client out there.

  34. Eric Said,

I apologize. Windows isn’t my main os, so i don’t really encounter stuff like this often

  37. coderbari Said,

    December 13, 2008 @ 2:09 am

    ditto.
Digsby is already above my expectation and I love it. But, it would be cool if you add Yahoo buzz and MSN nudge. People sometime do those things and it shows the message in Digsby but it would be good if it shows some effect in Digsby. Don’t need that shaking visual effect(IMO) but the sound effect(may be a buzz sound?) would be good.

As a recent defector of trillian pro.. I’m really happy my main reason for leaving trillian is solved.. you guys are concentrating on your product.. and it shows.. the love .. thats what we all want.. the love.. but DONT smother us either =D I’d pay for it before I’d allow it to become a marketing tool.. please keep that in mind.

  41. ccgrunt Said,

    December 13, 2008 @ 2:58 am

Why can’t I italicize only a part of my message!?!? I’ve been waiting for a few months now. I know you guys can do it. I see other people’s messages with only certain parts italicized. I can see the text in the text entry control being italicized. I just… can’t control it. Is it really so hard? I can do some Python programming; if I made a demo in your GUI toolkit of choice or something, would you patch it in? I don’t mean to sound naggy. I just really, really depend on italics a lot more than I thought I did. And I understand that you probably have a lot of other aspects of the program that need developing. And I’m aware it’s closed-source so it’s only you and your staff. But please… PLEASE! Think of the italics!

Thanks for the continuing updates, D always works a dream. A long shot, the one thing “I” miss” is not to be able to “talk” as in Google Talk to Google Talk etc. I know we have Toxbox but not quite the same thing. Will there ever be a chance of a cross-messenger phone option to users on other IM’s ?

Hey everyone, I’m a long time user and a fan of Digsby. Thanks for working so hard to make updates available for us in a timely manner. Its much appreciated!

I can’t wait for a fix that involves gmail auto login. Much like many others, I have multiple gmail accounts I like to check via Digsby and Digsby alone.

Looking forward to it, thanks again!

  60. Chris Hansen Said,

    December 13, 2008 @ 9:31 am

Thanks Digsby for the update. Gmail works again and I can now video chat on Gmail with both video and audio. I now only need someone with Yahoo! and MSN to wake up so I can try those out.

The Buzz feature and manual idle are nice enhancements but the conference feature of Yahoo would be outstanding. I use it a bit and now that I use Digsby, I have to logout and log back into Yahoo to use it.

  72. NLD Said,

I love Digsby but unfortunately I can’t use it just yet. Here’s the reason: file transfer auto-accept. This is a necessary feature for me and my group of friends since we pass a lot of files around daily. I used Digsby for a day and loved it but as soon as it became apparent that you don’t have auto-accept I had to switch back to MSN Messenger + MsgPlus :(

  73. SalvadorM Said,

  74. SalvadorM Said,

I’m still having trouble adding users to my contact list (still same error about unable to add) I notice it most in the yahoo messenger medium. I haven’t added anyone to the other mediums to test those out in a while.

I’m also having trouble with file transfers. when someone sends me a file in yahoo messenger, it hangs at the connecting screen and won’t transfer.

  76. Scott Leffler Said,

    December 13, 2008 @ 2:35 pm

I want to see if Digsby going to support Skype as well as having a mobile apps to support blackberry. It is very good with the support now.

Am I the only one who thinks there should be an option to turn off automatic updates?

I HATE programs that do things I don’t tell them to do. HATE it. Programs should NEVER do anything that you as a user don’t tell them to do.

I drive home, get on my parents’ internet (512/128 DSL…yuck) and try to sign online, but can’t.

Digsby won’t let me. Why? Because I have to wait for 5 minutes for it to download a 17MB update that I didn’t want OR ask for.

    WTF.

GIVE US AN OPTION TO OPT-OUT OF YOUR AUTOMATIC UPDATES!!

SparticleBrane has it right–”GIVE US AN OPTION TO OPT-OUT OF YOUR AUTOMATIC UPDATES!!”

My cellular link is dog slow but I *have* to use it. I don’t have to use Digsby. I don’t care if you have to make an incompatible update & break things until I update but I want to control when updates are downloaded.
