Build 39 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 39, r19221) which introduces many new bug fixes and enhancements. As always, you can read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Fixed 5 crash causing bugs thanks to all your crash reports!
  • Many fixes for remaining unicode issues in AIM/ICQ
  • Fixed a memory leak that happened when your network connection was disconnected for a period of time
  • Small performance improvements for the buddy list and more to come

If you would like to become an alpha tester and get new releases before everyone else, follow the instructions here:

http://blog.digsby.com/archives/57

Keep in mind that as an alpha tester you may get a release with a few bugs every now and then.  We are looking for people who are proactive in reporting these issues so we can fix them before builds go out to all users.

As always, thank you for all the feedback and enjoy the new build. If you experience any bugs please email us at bugs@digsby.com or use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log. If you have any suggestions, please email us at features@digsby.com.

One small question, maybe i missed something: why does the "Listening To" status append a short URL to the Artist - Song text? Can this be optional, or is it a subtle form of advertising?

    Hi,

Thanks for this great software. I am using currently Digsby Build 19212 which doesn't support Arabic language. Does this software release support it ?

    Regards,

Using Build 19221 on Windows Vista Ultimate x64 Edition.

I booted up Windows, and Digsby started with Windows. After putting in my password, it went through the sign on process, but the Digsby window never appeared. Looking at the Task Manager, Digsby wasn't listed under the "Applications" tab, but under the "Processes" tab I did find it, and was able to end the process and restart it successfully.

Although looking at it now, it never appears in the "Applications" tab unless I have an IM window open because my buddy list is docked.

But still, the window never showed up. I would have submitted a bug report via the program, but obviously that wasn't an option since my buddy list and taskbar icons never appeared.

This is the first time I have seen this happen.
  • I have just downloaded digsby and I have started using it. I really like it, and so far I can only see one thing that I want to be different.

We should be able to add rss feeds to digsby. That would be great.

Do you have any plans to add this feature?

For me its the same...Please fix it asap...
  • Guys, I reported about critical bug yesterday. But didn't get any update so decided to duplicate its description here.
Bug: After getting r19221 update Digsby began sending messages via ICQ protocol with HTML tags.
    Appearance: constantly.
Comments: This really annoys my interlocutors. I believe this bug appeared because something small had been broken. Could you please fix it asap?

Steve, I am glad to hear your stance on ads. Sounds good to me.

I am very thankful that any problems I may experience with Digsby get fixed almost immediately.

One thing I wonder is why the updates are 5MB or so. They download in no time, but it seems like it downloads a lot more than just files that have changed.
  • @CrazyCat: We’re testing this installer with a portion of downloads and the offers are 100% optional. At the end of the day, we need to generate revenue to keep the lights on and keep making Digsby better. We’d rather show you ads ONCE during the installation process than plaster Digsby with banner ads like other IM clients do (ie: AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ).
  • it's so sweet, i just wanna say that digsby is awesome, and above the known bugs it's still working wonderfull, i'm really wonder the linux version, and when it cames it's gonna be a success i'm sure because a bunch of linux's people are dreaming about a alternative of pidgin(the best so far!), amsn and another ones. but i was thinking digbsy has webcam features?sorry to ask that on blog. thanks for the perfect work guys. God bless u all!

"Fixed a bug that caused AIM/ICQ to not reconnect when the connection was lost sometimes
Fixed a bug that caused AIM/ICQ to disconnect when told to move to another server"

Sweet! No more waking up every morning with AIM disconnected! Although I know that me sending those Bug Reports almost every day is the whole reason it got fixed. You finally got sick of me! lol

Thanks Guys! Keep up the good work!

Digsby is becoming bloated with adware. Installation offered me to install a bunch of adware programs and now we have to double download (download instalation file that will download Digsby). Too bad, I just started to like Digsby but now I can't recommend it to my friends (installation would scare them and make a bad impression).
  • Bradleycorn
Rats .. I didn't see group chat in the list of enhancements in this version :(
  • You should add this to the "notable changes":

You can now right click a link in the IM window and copy it instead of having to highlight it

    Thanks!
  • @Cappella: Should be fixed in this alpha and once the alpha is stable it will be pushed to all users. The fix delays the issue but it will eventually happen again. Hopefully, we'll have a permanent fix in before then :)
  • Cappella
Hi, can I check with each passing alpha release, will bug 28608 be fixed before the next stable release? This is because as I add more contacts, the unsorted list of contacts are getting more unmanageable. :(

In any case, I really appreciate you guys' hard work. :)

    Okay; now I'm torn:
I use XP SP3 on my laptop and, for the past couple of weeks, have been using the dev version of Digsby.
But now with r19221, I'm not sure which I should be using... :-/

While using the dev version, I did not experience any crashes, so I guess it's back to the alpha version (currenty r19221) for me!

Thanks for the update -- I love Digsby!
  • SourNothardcore
Thanks a lot for these updates. I really love Digsby. Just wish the YouTube social networks was up and the Xbox Live one wouldn;t be impossible lol. But regardless keep up the really good work. =)

"* Fixed a bug that caused the infobox to turn black (Vista) or completely stop showing up (XP)"

Whoo! I kept having that one pop up for me. Glad you managed to find out the cause.
