Build 38 – Quick Patch (and the Crunchies!)

We just pushed an update (Build 38, r19187 r19212) which is a small patch to bring back MySpace social network functionality. A protocol change earlier today caused users to no longer see status updates in the MySpace infobox.

On another note, the second annual “Crunchies” are here! The Crunchies is an award ceremony organized by TechCrunch, GigaOm, and VentureBeat to honor the best startups of 2008. Last year’s winners included Facebook, Digg, Twitter, Netvibes and many others.

We’ve had an amazing year since our March, 2008 public beta launch and hope you can help us bring home a trophy or two! You can nominate us in as many categories as you want using the links below:

We want to thank you all for your ongoing support and wish you a wonderful holiday season!

Update (11/24/08 5:35pm): We pushed a fix for a crash, bringing the revision to 19212.

I like your software, only problem, each time I wake up the computer from standby, I have to click on each of my email accounts separately and click “check now” to get the latest mail, while I want an option that lets me to check all of them at once. Can’t you add just this simple function?

  5. catester Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 1:55 pm

When you say you just pushed Build 38, r19187, should I expect to be there? Because when I do a Help | About Digsby, I see “Digsby – Build 18971″. Am I at the end of the line for pushing, or should I be downloading that build when I see these blog entries? Because that’s not “push” at least as I understand it.

  6. Steve Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 1:58 pm

@catester: It is pushing the update but sometimes the auto-update fails. It will try again next time you restart Digsby. If after 2-3 updates you don’t get the update, use Help > Send Bug Report to submit a diagnostic log and mention that auto-update didn’t kick in.

Nominated for everything (except “Best Technology Innovation Award” to be fair, a multi-network IM client isn’t exactly “innovative”, although Digsby has much improved upon them and brought a higher standard for others to follow, but imho that doesnt count as “innovative”).

As a first year at RIT, we see your stickers all over. The Digsby IM client is amazing. I know a lot of freshman who use this now per recommendations of myself and other loyal fans and users. Keep it up, Ill spread the word around the RIT boards.

Sometimes I have the problem that friends don’t receive some messages or after a short time, like 20 up to 30 minutes.
With the regular icq there isn’t the problem.

    Have somebody the same problem?

    hello,

    there are two things
that i wish you do implement it.

    (1) ask for setting the status (away / invisible ) before connecting

    (2) the window directly pop up when someone send a message to you. its better when it blinking in the tray-bar and the chat-window pop up when the user klick on the blinking icon @tray

    thx

    p.s. sry for my english

Digsby is simply the best. Is a very admirable work of the authors. They deserve applauses ;D

The only small hole that remains to complete the puzzle is Skype though it’s implementation is not so easy due to the fact that it uses a complicated engine

What the hell is with this new installer? I hope this is just some silly experiment, because this is going to turn people away before the app is even installed. Heck, I’ve been using Digsby for ages and even I’m turned off by this.

  41. DalsR Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 7:34 pm

I LOVE YOUR SOFTWARE WILL SUPPORT IT ALL THE WAY

  42. Steve Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 7:41 pm

@Ray + Espiox: We’re testing this installer with a portion of downloads and the offers are 100% optional. At the end of the day, we need to generate revenue to keep the lights on and keep making Digsby better. We’d rather show you ads once during the installation process than plaster Digsby with banner ads like other IM clients do (ie: AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ).

  43. teejerman Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 7:53 pm

Digsby is a great free program with many great features, although while it’s capabilities are “professional” it’s logo icon is NOT…are you trying to appeal only to the sophomoric IM and email client(s)? Your logo doesn’t reflect,IMHO,the sharp technology it represents…not that we want you to go all “corporate” on us,but many that I know feel they should be wearing a “beany copter” while signed in to Digsby;something NOT felt while signed into the beta “Voxox.”

  47. Jason Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 8:49 pm

Steve, I’m unable to test the new installer but as long as it’s intuitive for people to bypass the software they don’t want (software that could potentially affect their computer’s performance overall), I see no problem with it. I say continue with the trial beyond one day despite a haste posting from DLS.

  48. Jason Said,

    November 24, 2008 @ 8:55 pm

I would add, however, that I greatly prefer a single, full download. (Personal preference.) Any particular reason you’ve decided to test an internet download option?

Done. A vote in all categories. I may vote again at work. As they say in Chicago; vote early and often!

I just want to say that Digsby is the best thing since sliced bread! Oh, wait… According to Ozzy, Van Halen was the best thing since sliced bread. So, I guess Digsby is the best thing since Van Halen (pre-Sammy)? Or is it the best thing since Ozzy? I dunno. All I know is I’d be lost with out it.

    Keep it up!

PS – Stop complaining about the installer and click ‘Decline’. These guys could charge a pretty good fee for this app, but they’ve kept it free. Enjoy free Digsby while it lasts.

Digsby is one of the best Integrated M clients I have ever used so far. Will nominate it for the highest recognition all times.

By the way, I agree that to keep the show on you have to display some adverts somewhere. If it is only on Install Kit, and that too Optional, then there is no worry to that fact. Do know that your loyal customers wouldn’t be hurt with that, unless they are forced down to the IM clients, as with other proprietory stuffs.

Only thing missing, is the Orkut feature. With the recent survey you guys pushed, I am confident that you would be adding it in near future, which will make me stick to the client for all social networking, without being dependent on the crappy browsers.
