Vote for Digsby!

ReadWriteWeb is holding a poll to see what the best IM clients are. This is a follow-up to an article they wrote about IM interoperability, in which they boldly stated:

Digsby is poised to take a serious amount from the market share of the standard clients because of its interoperability not only with IM clients, but also because of the integrated social networks and even email. It makes me wonder if maybe Digsby is poised to be the “Firefox” of instant messaging if the dominating players aren’t careful.

Please show your support by voting for us: ReadWriteWeb Poll

On another note, it has been 2.5 weeks since our last release, which is uncharacteristic of us. As the bug reports began to die off, we have bunkered down to fully optimize our codebase. The next release will bring a few significant improvements including:

  • Major reduction in RAM (memory) usage
  • Fixes for most of the memory leaks
  • A much more responsive user interface
  • Ability to connect to IM networks even if your firewall/proxy restricts that port
  • any legit kid would have
THE ABILITY TO SEND FOLDERS/BROWSE OTHER PEOPLES FILES (EXACTLY LIKE AIM 5.9s GETFILE.)

For AIM why isn't there Neopets?
  • Snake- there's a test release available that's being updated regularly. You can read about it on the forums here: http://forum.digsby.com/viewtopic.php?id=2116
  • Snake
OK, is there ANY ideas on when this program is going to likely be ready.

I last asked for an update a month ago, & we all last heard from you 2 months ago, any chance of an update please?
  • John
Really great app! I miss skype! When is it planned?
  • Snake
STEVE, how's it going? When I asked you previously about the date of release, you said a week was pretty realistic, this was dated June 26th (http://blog.digsby.com/archives/44#comment-4058).

As some1 who's done some programming in the past, I can understand that it takes time, and when bugs are found, it can extend the date of completion each time a bug gets detected. This was over 5 weeks ago, & with knowing it's a pretty big re-write being done, is there any ideas to when the release date may be?

Thanks in advance, for an awesome app.
  • Awesome app! Definitely the best there is on the net.

It would be nice though to see the display names (as opposed to usernames) of my YM contacts without having to rename each one of them... And please add Multiply.com functionality!
  • a.k.a.pinoy
    Good job Digsby staff!
I hope you will add also friendster as one of your social network. thanks
  • Kamillo
When will be a Gadu-Gadu protocol ?! we wait so long time... and nothing :(
  • Benoît
I used to use several IM at once, since nothing existed to group them in a decent way. Then I discovered Pidgin (as it is called now) but that didn't feel like I expected. ... and now I know Digsby and my search has ended. It's just sooooo good :-)

If I had to request a few extra things it might be to :
    * add the possible use of irc (which seems to be already in the works) :)
    * site mail check functionality, you can add any site (url, login, pass) and make it check if you got pm's or alike
    * using Digsby to create lists of items you encounter while surfing by for example adding them to a Google Notebook by using the data from the entered account + the entered list name (user+digsbylistname@gmail.com) or just to send it straight to for instance Gmail
    * a Linux (Ubuntu) version or an install through Wine guide/script

    Oh and votes + 1 :-D
  • chris jackson
    almost ready?

    cooool, hope its this week.
  • Sam
    Any plans to integrate Orkut?
  • @Chris Jackson: It's almost ready. It was a major re-architecting so new bugs were introduced as a result. We are knocking them out and as soon as it is stable we will push it out.
  • SillyHalfMexican
Not to bug or anything, but it's been almost 3 weeks since they announced this. Not saying that they should push it out and still be buggy.
However, they should keep us up to date; so we at least know the status of it.

I still love Digsby and promote it everywhere I go... But the lack of status updates is making me impatient.

    Oh well.
    Long live Digsby! :)
  • chris jackson
    ok, so where is it?

waiting........ and sick of it. :)
  • Operator
@ Patrick: Calm down! Digsby is still Beta and Localization is planned for the future. You can use another messenger until Digsby gets a German localization or continue using the English one. It's not too hard to understand, don't you think so ;)? And yes, I'm German, too.
  • Patrick
Why there is still no localisation? Why no German languagepack?

You should have a look on the Firefox 3 Download Counter. Germany is on the second place after the USA.

Many millions of Germany using original ICQ or qip, Trillian, Miranda and other Multimessengers, because they speak GERMAN. Why Digsby only speak ENGLISH? Not the whole wide world speaks english?

Do you want several millions of new Digsby-Users, than make Digsby speak GERMAN!
  • Hi Guys - I'll vote, but I'd really love a Digsby for Linux (Ubuntu)... we use it at work and I have Windows at home, so I really only have the opportunity to used Digsby @ home and I miss it!!!!

Any idea when a Linux version is coming out?
  • Snake
SillyHalfMexican, Steve said within a week is quite reasonable, so unless they have any more bug issues, or coding is taking a lil bit longer than expected, hopefully sometime this week, or very early next week.

I know we all can't wait for this, it's going to be an awesome app to use when it's finally ready.
  • SillyHalfMexican
Sooo... When are we getting this update?
    Can't wait for it! :)
  • siyang
Digsby is great! Good luck with the memory optomization.

    My three requests:
    1. QQ is added. Popular chinese client.
    2. Video chat natively in Digsby instead of the tokbox thing
    3. Conference chat is added.
  • Snake
    Cool, thanks Steve.

I'll still hold off till the full release though, before installing. I've got my wireless network here, while running Digsby on my main computer, so I'm not losing out quite yet, but thanks on the potential completion timeline.

    You guys rock!!!
  • @Snake - Yup I think within a week is pretty realistic. However, you can install now and it will auto-upgrade as soon as it is pushed.
  • Ah, I see, well keep it up Digsby team, me and probably alot of other Digsby users are rooting for all of you. :)
  • Snake
Hi Steve, I know you're all working hard on getting the Windows version finished, so you can all work on getting the MAC & Linux versions up & running. I've just got myself a new laptop, & I'm holding out from installing Digsby on the Laptop, until the full version is out. Is it going to possibly be in the next week or 3 when it's released, or are we looking at a longer deadline?

    Thanks
  • @Kid Arez - I know :) We are working hard to wrap everything up. This is a pretty large update with a lot packed in so it's takin a bit longer.
  • It's been a week and a half, from Steve's comment, shouldn't it be here about now?
  • paark.s
This is the best IM I ever use. (I have used ICQ, MSN, Gaim, Pidgin, Trillian and few more I can't remember) The only thing the keep me from switching 100% to Digsby is Thai text will not be displayed in conversation windows.
  • Bill
I really love what you guys have been doing with Digsby. I was wondering when/if you were going to add the option to hide windows while away. Thank you and keep up the great work!
  • @Joseph: We designed Digsby to be cross-platform from the group up but launched only the windows version so we can react to bug reports more quickly. We would rather have one solid product than three half-finished ones so instead of spreading ourselves thin with three beta launches we decided to hold back the other two. We have already started working on prepping the mac version for release and will try to get out to users as quickly as possible. Linux will follow shortly after.
  • Joseph
With all due respect, you really oughtn't announce a Mac or Linux version "coming soon" if it isn't actually "coming soon." Digsby looks like the cat's pajamas, but at this point both Mac and Linux versions are vaporware.
  • Anthony
Will you ever add icq extra statuses? That will be great and finaly will force people to move from miranda to digsby.
  • Oddahc
both my FF3 page search AND your blog search missed the "portable" in the above article! Sorry all!
  • Snake
Is there any date penned yet, as to when the new version is possibly gonna be ready to be released?
  • Chris Jackson
hello, im also a big digsby fan.

hiding the tray icon completely does not work for me,

    but anyway,

'when' is this much less-ram-eater available, i hope its very soon, im ready to create a new image of my system. :)
  • I like Digsby
And to 'star', attach files, see images etc from Gmail messages via Digsby too.
  • I like Digsby
    I like Digsby.

I am looking forward to check my emails within Digsby, without having to launch the browser. Thank you.
  • @Gil Collins - Not a pipe dream at all. We will launch a Linux build shortly after we launch the Mac build. We are working on both right now but wanted to get the Windows build stable first so we didn't spread ourselves thin as we reacted to bugs in this initial beta release.
  • Gil Collins
Will the Linux version ever be started or is it a pipe dream I keep having?

I love this application but I moved to Linux months ago and haven't looked back, however I miss Digsby a lot.
  • Tried to vote in their poll but I just get a javascript error in IE 7 and Fx 3. Feckin lovely.
  • raj
Great to know about next release. Memory usage (goes upto 90MB) is very big issue, fix will make this programme rocking.
What do u think about adding Orkut to social network list. I have all frineds on orkut. You can think about it.
  • Abubakar Hassan Muhammad
Hmm infact i have no comment, but believe me digsby is just the perfect IM in the whole world. Really i have no option than to vote for digsby the greatest IM, keep up the good work and peace out to all digsby crew members...
  • @TheDenverFan: Clicking the "X" on the top right corner of the buddy list will minimize it to tray. You can double click the tray icon to bring it back. You can also permanently hide it from the taskbar in Preferences > Buddy List > Show in taskbar.

@digsbyuser: The performance issues are being tackled right now and that is what the next build will focus on. We will also release a portable version soon. There have been many requests for this.

@Wanderer: In Preferences > Skins you can choose from many conversion themes and some show the buddy icon in the IM window
  • TheDenverFan
I love Digsby! One improvement suggestion: Have an option to mimimize Digsby to the notification area (removing it from the taskbar area) like Yahoo provides. I tend to have so many things open at once, I would love to get it off the taskbar while leaving it active.

    Thanks!
  • digsbyuser
I too agree that Digsby is a good all-around IM client. There are things that are on the to-do list but I'd like to see a more firmed up time line on those things rather than adding the new social-networking-site of the week support. Address the sluggishness of the app itself, the CPU hogging, the memory bloat are pretty critical core issues. Protocol issues such as MSN has been out there for a while now, as is group chat, as well as supporting specific client features like video etc. While not a requirement for most users today portability is moving up the request list as usb thumbdrives are increasing in size, and decreasing in cost...
  • Wanderer
I just wish you'd add the features from the IM programs that we can access through you...like Yahoo! Radio, or the ability to show your pic on the IM like you can with both Y! and MSN...just to mention a couple.
  • therpham
Here's another voice crying out for at least some news on the Linux version! I can be patient, though. All good things take time.
  • Snake
Thanks Steve, I tried that, but there was an error with setting the status, don't know what it was, however after 3 attempts, it now works a treat.

Thanks to all the Digsby staff for a wicked app, there aint anything around at the moment that even comes close to this app.

    Keep up the good work.
  • electr0mix
    GaduGadu support please!
  • Cereal
LINUX! Please I need a better IM Client! Unfortunately I don't bother booting into another OS for one IM client, but I would LOVE to use it in Linux 24/7!
  • Ionikka
i'm not speak english.! i'm from romania....! I like digsbi!
  • @Snake - mouse over the social network at the bottom of your buddy list or click the small icon in the icon tray.
  • Snake
Hi Steve, in "My Accounts" I've added all my usual IM accounts from the various services.

I've also added Facebook & MySpace to the Social Networks as well, where is the Newsfeed, & how do I set it?
  • Dan
Damn, i just downloaded Digsby for the first time and running it using the AIM, Google, and Facebook plugins its consuming 142mb of RAM!!!???? Photoshop uses less RAM than this client what the hell?

That's insane. I'll check back when RAM and memory leak issues are fixed. I'll stick with pidgin for now... :(
  • random
I can't embed links. I can't make one word italicized. I can't use normal IRC style commands like /me. I need this sort of functionality.

I need to be able to do these things.
  • Digsby is kickin butt! i was the 2756th vote. woo hoo! =0]
  • @Snake - changing your IM status does not set it on the Facebook website. However, if you add Facebook as a social network you will get a newsfeed and can set your Facebook status from there.
  • Snake
I've only just posted the previous message, & now I've found another issue.

I gather that if you set your Status Message using Digsby, it is supposed to show on the website, is that right?

I have Digsby logged into Facebook, & Facebook Chat, ICQ, MSN & Yahoo, I can set my status message manually by the dropdown box just below the menu tabs in the main interface, or by the "Digsby/My Status/New Status Message" menu options. As far as I can tell, it is changing my Status, on all the IM Service Accounts I got logged into it, but it's not changing the status on my Facebook Profile. 3 times I've changed my status message in Digsby since last night, but no change to Facebook Profile Status Message...
  • Snake
Steve, thanks for the info about the forthcoming API for theme design. Cool, on the mouseover thingy, makes a lil easier for the moment, to read what notifications I'm getting.

Ummm, with regard the skins, until the API is ready, & released, is the anyway someone on the programing team would be able to tweak 1 or 2 of the skins for the next release date, or a future release date, prior to the API? If not, don't worry, just wishful thinking.

Thanks again Steve, and the rest of the team, for a truly awesome Multi-IM / Social Network Interface, it rocks.
  • cskat
I love the email notificating of Digsby.
And the Skype support will make Digsby (more) one of a kind.
(As the gtalk support and msn private and status message showing in one application made it too.)
The clickable links in status messages, the advanced buddylist sorting, are great too. And the planned less memory using is really good news.
You know that the users will use Digsby instead of multiple applications, or other multiaccount applications if they will get the ability to use all of their contact's application and all the ability to use their preferred features.
    My requests:

    - more skins, at least some shiny elegant darks

    - ability to see the pm of the offline msn users like in the msn
(maybe some of them just invisible and writing out their moods or a "secret message" which means they're online for those who know that :) I hope the other services will use that too some day.

    - with that (group offline users by service, others could be hidden...there are too much contacts with the gmail service)

-optionable buddy and self picture in the chatting window (in some sizes)

    - bigger buddy picture on mouse hoover on the buddylist pictures (pop up)
and profile and data just on mouse hoover on the buddy's name

    - on digsby trayicon mouse hoover pop up window with logged on services and our status message(s)

    thanks for your work!
  • victor
u guys are realy good imagin i can now open as many chat side and it shows all my buddys in other site.am so glad u guys came in my vote is all urs nice job keep the big dream going choa..................
  • jun jun
yes i voted you of course.,.,. thanks and keep up the good work
  • @Ruben: It should run in vista x64 just fine

@Snake: We will release an API that will let users make their own themes and upload them to a website for all to download. As for popups, we will add advanced preferences in the future to let you tweak this. If you mouse over the popup it will not disappear.
  • jun jun
digsby rock here in my place,,,, but not very popular here in Philippines.,.,hope you can add all IM here.. like skype, hope you do it.,.,bye the way, thanks for your digsby IM.,.,
  • is vista x64 on the horizon? or is that out of question?

The first IM I ever used was ICQ way back when I started using the internet. (Long time) Afterwards I used Windows Live Messenger because everyone in my country uses it, but I did prefer Google Talk because of it's very nice, fast and clean interface: one major problem: lacked some important features and didn't get updated (on time).

Now with Digsby I can chat with everybody in a very cool and interface! Long live Digsby! :)

    *voted*
  • Snake
Hi Steve, I was wondering about the updates, something that's been bugging me since I first installed it.

The Notifications Bubble that pops up from Facebook when first logging in, it doesn't stay long enough to read, no sooner than I see the blue rectangular bubbles on the bottom left of my screen, I start to read what it says, & the bubble dissapears.

Is there any way to edit the time length these stay, or will you be adding that function in a future update?

Also, with regard to the Skins for Conversation Themes/Variants, I quiet like Satin & Metal Chat 2, but I'm not able to change the variants to how I'd like them to be, in either Skin.

In Satin for example, I would like to have the Icon, the name of the friend, and the service they are on, all on the left hand side, from the pre-existing variants available for Satin, I can get 1 or 2 of the 3 where I want them, but not all 3. I'm also used to having the time-stamp beside the message as well, but that isn't so important at the moment, it's ok for now to see it at the top right of each message bubble.
  • All these updates are great, but I'm waiting for the Mac OS X version so I can toss iChat and Adium. Hurry up! :)
  • I agree with the others, if you can incorporate MySpace IM, Digsby will officially be the greatest IM app on the planet. btw I voted Digsby over at RWW yesterday, of course.
  • Andy
Love Digsby! But it needs Skype!
  • jolli
please... studiVZ support... thats the biggest network here in germany... please ad support...

and whats about a digsby iPhone App ;-)

    bye bye
    JoLLi
  • Dave L
... Love Digsby. But still *patiently* waiting for Mac support. Starting to get a little impatient. Show the love!
  • Shawn
I've seen the rest, but voted for the best. Digsby has all the others beat hands down. I like that someone out there created a version for the U3 drives, but an official version that didn't have to be reinstalled each time there was an update would be killer. Thanks for making connectivity so easy.
  • @all If you experience any bugs, email bugs@digsby.com and we will figure out what is going wrong and fix it right away.
  • Matthias
Support for QQ would be really great and I guess after implementation your user numbers would skyrocket! ;-)

And for the blog, a feature like "subscribe to comments" would be nice to keep track of your answers.
  • Yay! I blogged about digsby a while ago! I use a PC at work and a mac at home, so yay for working on a mac version. Love this software!@!!
  • Hiam
I like Digsby but please we need emoticons like msn
  • starbird
@Steve - Thanks for all the updates. I know your working on it, so let me just cast my vote for a Mac version.

With that, will it by Intel only or a Universal Binary (for those of us still on PPC)?

Any future plans for a mobile version (iPhone/iPod touch)? And if so, via the soon to be app store or as a web app?

Thanks for everything. Gave you a vote and have been spreading the Digsby love. (but have so much more to spread once there is a Mac version!)

    Thanks.

i want to be seeing who am chatting with
  • Chuck
I switched to Digsby two days ago and can't keep off it! One feature I would like to see is to be able to rename contacts and groups by a select-click-hover method, similar to in windows.

Also, bug: When renaming a group with contacts in it, a new, empty group is created instead.

    That aside, I love it!
  • Jimmy Ilenloa
Congratulations to you all!!! You have really done a great job combining several chat clients into one. I love it especially with the facebook chat. I prefer using a desktop chat application to facebook website. Another thing that interests me about Digsby is notification. The notification system is cute.

But there is one thing am not too pleased with. You do you use your own way of file transfer. Why not be adaptive to the chat server? What I mean is, I cannot send a file from a Digsby chat to someone using Gtalk program on same Google Chat. Perhaps you understand what I mean.

    Thank you.
  • Foday Turay
I think you have broadened the way people can interact that I have never thought before.
You gave me a chance to understand the world better and get to know other people better.
  • filipina_fan
hi!kinda like your service.keep it up and looking forward for your new features.
  • Guillaumebip
Je trouve Digsby intéressant mais il a un problème des communications vocales, sans téléphonies comme skype et oovoo.
  • Tamara
it would be great if you could add Skype!!
  • I really love digsby. I was searching for a good messenger for a long long time, but finally I found digsby.

Go on making this the best messenger!
  • Michael
Linux client, I like digsby more than pidgin and want it on my ubuntu book
  • Manda
For some reason my friend can't see me typing even though I have it set to let others know I am typing. Do you know why, could you guys fix it?
    I love Digsby 8D
  • Mohammad Ateeq
i really love that i find Digsby, and i really enjoy it, its really easy to use, thanks any way for the Dissby creaters,
  • I like Digsby. Looking for new features. Thanks.

Support Microsoft Live Communication Server (SIP)
  • My Yahoo contacts appear only as user names. Is there any hope to see aliases for my Yahoo contacts?
  • Ranhiru
Waiting for the next release!! I love Digsby!!! Well less memory hungry is awesome!! I hope there will be at least 1 wish granted from the wish list! From the top 3 <:-)
  • Jeremy
Hey you guys are winning in that poll by three to one over the next highest :)

Also can I get the ability to send multiple files or folders through file transfers? then i could finally drop aim
  • attractivo
    need support for skype.very important.
  • Quintrino
Group chat would be great!! but i still love it just as it is.
  • Brentt
This is great news for sure. I'm really looking forward to the resource fixes, as Digsby seems to be using quite a bit on my machine.

I haven't gotten a chance to read through every single comment, but one feature that I want, is the ability for Digsby to start minimized. When I start my computer, the Digsby sign in window comes up and after it signs in, it shows my accounts with my friends and all. I would like a option to have all this minimized and happen in the background while my computer starts up. Sort of like how Pidgin does it, with all of that happening and just showing the normal taskbar icon.
  • Go Digsby! For overall functionality you're my favorite communications app, and I have Trillian Pro. I do keep Friendfeed and Twitter open in Prism windows on the desktop in Vista. I wish I could keep the same appearence and options in Mac and Linux. Someday soon, I hope.
  • I love Digsby. My wife showed this to me and I instantly downloaded it for my work pc. I just voted for you vote number 1985. You are way ahead of everyone else. Some things I would like to see

    MySpace IM
    Group Chatting
Set different away/invisible settings per messenger
    More Skins

Thats it other then I can't wait for the next release to free up some CPU.
  • Olin
One suggestion is to expand the notification system for IM/Social networks (even email?). Mainly, allow users to get notifications for specific users on their list, instead of for every user, i.e. a contact on my 'notification list' logs in and a message comes up, but when another contact not on that list logs in, no popup occurs. Just a thought.
  • Koste Asi
It's good, but need more flexibility.......if it supports more smiley and emoticons....like pidgin.....it cud really turn into a firefox in the messenger world.
  • mikey
I need to use a lot of yahoo accounts at once (long story)
Before digsby, I had to maneuver through them manually...such a pain!
Now, its WAY faster and easier.

*waits for digsby to send me $$$
  • Atownshorti
would we be able to have myspace im intergration and flickr too? nyways i use digsby all the time but im wondering how about some new themes?
  • As much as I love Digsby, that ReadWriteWeb crap is a poor excuse for a pole and seems entirely biased towards Digsby. What use is a pole where you push the results you want.
  • Rebkin
I only wanted to say that I love Digsby and am very happy that I found it.

Am happy as it is so I won't ask for anything. If they'd feel like adding Multiply and Plaxo sometimes in the future...that would be fun.
  • Steven
Would be great if you could add photo sharing for Yahoo!
  • killer_ma_sexy
oki love this thaing but it needs myspace im on it it would make lot of better for some peopel ;):")
  • @Sandra - We will add the option to disable smilies or download other emoticon sets. As for setting the font, go to Preferences > Buddy List > Advanced. You can change the font, and layout of everything about buddies.
  • Optimized RAM usage FTW.

I've been keeping an eye on the RAM usage and it is off the charts :P
    200MB++
I have 4GB so its no issue. For other people in the office who don't reboot their computers and only have a quarter of that it kind of is.

    Awesome product, cheers
  • Sandra
I sent these to the features email address, but:

    disabling graphical smilies!
ability to change at least font size on the buddy list!
ability to nest folders in buddy list so you can have sub-groups! Trillian and Miranda both do that, and I'd gotten used to it so I'm sad now that I can't do it with digsby :-/
  • Ron
Any way you can make offline messaging to work thru msn?
  • So when is myspace im coming to digsby? I can't wait to stop using the native myspace im client!!!!
  • lc
i love trillian but astra has taken so long and it crashed a lot. every release is a month or so lately and my problems are still there. digsby works great. Digsy keep up the communication. seriously it helps. I'm serious.
  • Jus10
How about new social networks additions?
  • Mario
is there an ETA on hotkeys. This is what makes pidgin that more usable then Digsby. With hotkeys u will clearly have the edge.
  • stud_muffler
Sametime!!!. It's a default IM in the offices. And more attention to the proxies and authentication - It should pickup windows/AD with out need to input user/password in the settings. Still cannot use it with anything but gtalk for IM. Emails work great.

Added my vote to the bunch.

How many people are on your dev team anyway? Also, do you have a sustainable revenue system?
  • @Emily - choosing "Offline" will disconnect all accounts and changing the status to online will then reconnect the ones which were on last. No option to check all email accounts though.

@Kevin - we had some bugs with per-character formatting so we launched with only per-message formatting. We will bring it back.

@Mac Users - we are working on it now :)
  • Emily

Yo, can there be some option in Menu or otherwise to reconnect to all, and/or check all mail? As in one-click update all.
    ----------------

    I second.
  • Jarrod
Awesome guys... any ETA on SKYPE??
  • Kevin
I don't know if this is a feature yet (maybe I can't find it), but what about the ability to apply font formats (italicize, bold, underline) to PARTS of your message? Cause as of now, Digsby applies font to the whole message, making me unable to put emphasis on certain words/phrases. Oh, and when will we be able to rename links?
  • well done digsby dev peeps..
you are winning.. miles ahead of the competition...

its by far the best chat client i have used..
keep up the good work.. digsby rocks

    :o)
  • red
I voted for Digsby. I am a new user and I love your service! It is particularly good when I am on vacation and my service is sketchy. I can pull Digsby up and see every communication I have at a glance without having to necessarily pull up a web page. Just don't change it so much you lose the simplicity of what you have please. That is the beauty of it.
  • Group Chat should be at the top of the list. This is probably the only thing holding Digsby back from being adopted in a lot of corporations who host their own IM servers and use it for internal communications around helpdesk/support.
  • Yeah second the Mac version above but without hurting the kittens :) Also, connecting to MSN has some firewall issues I think, where Live Messenger works. That could well be our anal network though

    Mark
  • Jack
    +1 for Linux!
  • Dee
Please add a SIP client into Digsby so we can make an receive telephone calls as well on the move - this would give it something no other Instant messenger has
  • soliberating
Support for Xfire would be cool so I could text my gamer friends. Some of the features of Xfire would also be cool, as it allows unique ways of handling media while running a different full screen application.

If Digsby could handle Mixx.com (another social network) then that would be pretty cool.
  • MAC. VERSION. PLEASE.

i'd hate to have to vote for adium, but, i will. not a threat.

i'll kill the kittens if i don't get a mac version soon. (that's the threat).

    with (mac) love,
    -m
  • datalord
Just read through all the feature requests and responses.

@Steve: Your a beast. Good work on the PR

@Digsby Team: Good work on the product.

I have no requests and have nothing but appreciation for everything that you guys do. If I had one suggestion it would be... give yourselves a good reward!

    Cheers
  • Once the Windows version is stabilized, Nicole.
  • uh oh... what took it so long... can't wait it...
  • Nicole
When will ya'll work on crossing over to mac? I hate having to login into windows just to use digsby, but i love your app. so until then... I sadly chat from windows.
  • @Macedonian - IRC is on the list.

@catester - Agreed! Group chat is close to the top of the todo list now.

    @Kim Siever - Exactly ;)
  • Macedonian
somebody already mentioned skype. and how about IRC?
  • Konark
    voted..
when do you plan to add support for voice chat and file transfer with gtalk ?
  • Digsby is good as far as it goes, but I couldn't vote for Digsby as best IM client. There's no ability to enter AIM chat rooms. In fact, I don't use Digsby as an IM client for that reason. I have it around to deal with Twitter and Facebook updates, but I have to have a separate IM client running when I want to join an IM chat room.

Digsby might be best something else, and I am grateful for the coming improvements for memory leaks. But honestly, an IM client should include the ability to do "group chat."
  • This is great news, Steve. Fewer bugs, means you guys can work on stabilizing the Windows version. A stable Windows version means you guys will be able to work on a Mac version. W00t!
  • @All - we will add more social networks in the near future. We have a pretty long list of networks we want to add and pretty much everything mentioned is on it :)

@Keith - the bug is fixed in the next build (last known MSN messaging bug)
  • Snake
Hi, I've been a user of your program for only a short while, but it rocks, wicked app.

I have noticed 1 or 3ish problems, but putting that aside for the moment, do you plan on having any other Social Networking sites added to this app, like NetLog & Bebo?

I have MySpace, NetLog, & Bebo accounts (never used Twitter though), it would be nice to have notifications, chat etc coming from them as well. Netlog has a lil program that you can install, which lets you know of notifications, etc. But using that is just the same issue as with IM Messaging, running multiple programs. If you could get them onboard with your app, that'd be fabulous.

    Keep up the good work...
  • The hangups on receiving new messages are particularly frustrating and without fixes for those I would finally think of ditching Digsby for something more better.
  • Shaun
I voted for Digsby and Meebo. Meebo is good for chatting in the browser, but I converted to your application when I saw the facebook and email notification features. It's good to have all my social activities in one application. Youtube notifications would be a welcome addition! Anyway, just dropping by to say thanks. Thank you!
  • Proximus
done ;-) Skype please too :)
  • Aleksandar
disgby is best mutli-protocol client i've used so far (before digsby i used pidgin, trillian and miranda) and i'll stick with it!
just voted at RWW and i'm glad to see that digsby is so far best rated im client (34%) woo-hoo!

the only thing i'd like to see in digsby is plugin support, so that we programmers can contribute to digsby easly
  • Kana
oh yeah. Digsby is now at 1415 votes and counting in the poll. SWEET! :)
  • Kana
    Flickr
    Photobucket?
    Skype
    LinkedIn

    group chat
    per-character formatting
    more skins 'n stuff

Keep up the good work, guys!
  • @steve
You guys are doing great! I'm glad to see that the optimizations have began and will be released in roughly a week if everything goes well!

I say tweak this sweet app until it's memory usage and disk size are minimalized. That is something that we can all enjoy.

    Thanks!
  • I love the skins, the concept and all, but you still have a problem with RTL languages with the ? ! , . symbols etc. it's not possible to flip directions and prevent these symbols from showing at the oposite side. I reported a bug to you and know you're working on it.. is the next release contains the solution?

    Thanks,
    Clifinar
  • eagerly awaiting RAM optimization =)

and looking fwd to MS Communicator (LCS) integration in the 'near' future
  • can't...wait...for...the...update :)
  • Tony
If you want to make inroads to those of us with jobs and not just college kids playing on MySpace all day, please make Sametime connectivity a reality. Like someone has mentioned before, it shares many similarities with AIM and should not be too horrible to integrate. Thanks so much.
  • ptooey
Yo, can there be some option in Menu or otherwise to reconnect to all, and/or check all mail? As in one-click update all.
  • Geoffrey
Awesome job!!!!!!, just waiting patiently for the linux version. . ., Digsby is the only thing i use vista for, other than that i boot linux for everything else. please and thank you
  • Please try integrating orkut also in the program. Anyways keep up the great work
  • Geneva Flores
Myspace IM ,myspace IM, Myspace IM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • David Z.
Any possibility of chatroom (AIMN) compatibility in the near future?
  • Danny
NICE! Those features look great. That future update nixes one of my biggest complaints with digsby.

    Thanks guys, keep it up.
  • eisy
Loving the program... running on a p3 700mhz and it lags a little, other than that no complaints. Keep up the good work. Dying for you guys to release the Linux version. Any word on the progress of that?
  • Thank You!! The past week or so, when I leave my computer on 24/7, its memory consumption will skyrocket throughout the day and eventually lock up and everything. The next release sounds like it'll be a nice improvement. =]
  • krm
i hope the next release will include a way to set difference IM account in invisible mode. At the moment you can only set your status globally which really sucks if you want to be visible on say yahoo and invisible on ICQ or GTalk.

aside from this i think digsby is a great IM client
  • Shan
I would love to see MySpace IM as well as the ability to update your status on MySpace (just like you can with Facebook).

Aside from those two requests, Digsby rocks!
  • Already cast my vote. Nice to see Digsby in the lead so far at the ReadWriteWeb Poll!
  • Digsby - awesome. Sorry Cerulean Studios. So happy to be done with that era.

SKYPE - you say you are doing it. That's great news. Others that say 'we support skype' are nothing but wrappers on an installed instance of skype. Props to skype for winning the battle on their protocol and such not being reverse engineered to date. But I wish that someone would be able to crack that nut.

Are you going to support skype without their (mal)software installed?

And - What's your business model already? ;-)

    jp
  • kon
Thanks for this awesome web client!
Will there be in-game chat support for Digsby? And will there be xfire support later on?
  • Bwiko Kyriakos
    Great Application.....dudes;
  • Royal Falcon
Digsby is an excellent IM client, my only complaint being the high memory/CPU usage. I previously used Pidgin but the lack of real UI skinning left something lacking. Digsy solved that, keep up the good work devs.
  • Jenks
I second that Linux needs Digsby bad... Penguin is horrible please please please finish the Linux version!!!!!!!!!!
  • Digsby by far the best, you guys do a kick ass job. This kind of app should be built into every operating system. Love it, and I voted.

oh and, can't wait for the mac version.
  • bigt405
    Linux!!!

'nuff said. i actually boot into Vista just to use Digsby because i hate the standard Linux IM apps so much.
  • Brandon S Adkins
Wow. Thanks for the responsiveness to all of the posts! It is great to hear that things like Skype(!!!!!!) are coming to digsby someday. The development and updates really do give the app significant improvements each time it is updated.

I use skype and digsby simultaneously ALL the time. I am excited for future updates.
  • Tybois
Any chance getting MySpace IM in there too?
  • hdche
:) digsby is great, keep working , lets fix some bugs with MSN connection,
    what about soc.network DeviantArt? :P :D

    :)
  • So half of the people I turn onto digsby leave because of the poor Twitter experience. Please please please, add in some skins for twitter!
  • Joshua
I love Digsby and suggest it to everyone; I can not wait for the next update. You (Digsby) should also look into integrating “Pronto” - a school centric instant communication tool used for WebCT and Blackboard - due to the amount of people who will be using it for College.

Here is the link Universities are pushing students to use: https://pronto.wimba.com/user/faces/ar_create_account_page.jsp
  • negmmaher
hi may dear friend me haw are u welll com u aim fine when aim see u fine thank for u
  • CanadianBlaken
"Ability to connect to IM networks even if your firewall/proxy restricts that port "

Mohahaha the IT guys at work will love this.
  • Ken
This has become my client of choice. Love the integration of POP and other mail.

A nice addition would be a way to preview an incoming email in plain text without opening some mail client (like opening in Notepad). Magic Mail Monitor by Valeriy Ovechkin does this and I found it really handy. Most messages I get I could live without the graphics anyway.
  • ken
Skype and mobile support would be the end-all. No one else has all of these features as far as I know.
  • Jeromy
Very excited about Digsby! Found it on Wikipedia looking for IM client to support multiple IM providers and was ecstatic to discover its links to social networking apps.

    Looking forward to future releases.

I understand Skype is a relatively closed network (However, I do know NimBuzz on my Blackberry has linked into Skype somehow) so I don't believe it is completely closed.

I would love to see an integration with standard SIP technology using similar configurations as counterpath X-Lite

Finally, I have a BlackBerry and would love it if Digsby could integrant with the BlackBerry product line (specifically 8830 and Bold).

Thanks for making a fantastically simple user interface that's visually appealing and yet extremly powerful!
  • ajskhan
So I might expect portable digsby within a week?
  • harsh
    u r rockersssssssssssssssssss
  • Justin
When will Digsby be released for Macs?
  • Samuel
Better support for multi-user chats would be greatly appreciated too :)
  • Justerson
You guys are WAY ahead of the other multi-client apps I've tried (Windows apps that is, Adium still rocks). I am very impressed and will never go back to Pidgin, Gaim, Trillian...
  • Any hope for Sametime support? That should be low hanging fruit given the similarities with AIM. Not that I'm in love with Sametime but it's a work thing and it would get me down to 2 IM clients (Digsby & Skype) instead of 3. Looking fwd to other enhancements (including group chat).
  • Andy M
I am unable to display my picture. Could someone advise me how to go about this using Digsby
  • funword
everything sounds sooo great. i just love digsby :-D
and i love readin about all these coming up features like skype, social networks...a lil question inbetween...any chance to see like the biggest social network in germany/europe "studivz" (www.studivz.net) or "schuelervz" (www.schuelervz.net) in digsby?? probably not, but would be sooo cool ;-) if u needed translations or stuff like that, i would love to help u ;-)

another thing that i would love to see is a version for the iphone :-D
  • Michael
i have a brand new Dell XPS M1330 and when i run digsby i don't notice any performance issues - complainers should get a new computer. i'm looking forward to a plugin architecture so we can have some open source encryption plugins and other goodies.
  • Hi there!

When will you upgrade Disby to the newest MSN protocol?
The only thing preventing Digsby from being my only IM client is the status problem with MSN.

    Thanks.
  • Nice! I like the connectivity through blocked port option.

Group chat will be a nice feature too!
  • bibek
    please add, file sharing system..
  • raptore
Has there been any further tought about Xfire support. I know miranda supports it and game detection, the games list needs to be updated manually, but Digsby is far better than anything I've used so far.
  • Albert C
Digsby is great, but file transfers through Digsby are a complete NIGHTMARE. I can never get a rate better than 2 kb/s (yes, KB). I think it should be your top priority!!!
  • Thabet
Digsby sweeps them all. I now run in solely. congrats!
  • Yes, group chat is another needed function. Keep the updates rolling ! :)
  • Hey guys and gals,

Love Digsby, wrote about it on my blog (click to my website to see it).

You're winning the vote on RWW pretty handily, good job.

I'd love to have Digsby use less mem, obv. I hope that's your highest priority.

Another feature that I'd love to see is being able to see when someone was last online (Trillian does this).

And is there a way to backup my chat logs? I use IM for business and aside from Gtalk's built in logging (via my inbox), I haven't yet figured out how to backup my chat logs.

Thanks Digsby team, keep up the great work!

    Best,
    Chris S
  • @Drew: we will add group chat very soon

@Gary + Nostalgia: more social networks on the way

@Lourika: and skype support coming too :)

@Zak: We do keep an eye on the digsbies.org community site. That's why we have Twitter now.
  • as far as i'm concerned, the only feature holding your app back from total domination is group chat. =) make it happen please!
  • Gary
I'm looking forward to the next releases then.... My only complaints with Digsby now is its memory usage, and speed (too slow to start and open new windows).

    Oh, and flickr integration!!!!
  • Guest
Would be really cool if Last.fm could be added to Digsby in some way.. Also, the option to display a popup when someone signs off, but only if that person is someone you're chatting with. I don't really care about any other contacts signing off.
    Btw, you rock! =D
  • Lourika
I also would like to use SKYPE on digsby.
What about having a mobile version for cellphones????That would be great...
  • NDesai
    Is there a feature roadmap?
  • Zak
I was wondering in a non sarcastic way if you guys look at http://digsbies.org/site/view/rfe or not, just so I know if I can make suggestions there or not. Great job on this app guys, keep it up.
  • josef
whats up with the mac version?
  • I don't think "vote for Digsby" is a good use of the announcements feature. It would be better for critical updates, security info, and the like.
  • Voted! Go Digsby!
  • Mikael Fransson
I don't think Skype is open to other clients.
  • @Kishu - We try our hardest bug if the server itself is blocked there is not much we can do. You can set up a proxy server at your house and connect that way.

@Jaydub - We will make it portable!

@DJ - Not that easy (surprisingly). We had per-character formatting but it was very buggy and slow so we launched with per-message formatting. We will fix it and bring it back though.

@Chad Estes - We will release an API in the future but so much is changing about Digsby now that it isn't going to happen until we leave the beta period.
  • Mike
Can you please try and find a way to stop SPAM IM's? I normally only get them when I set my status to away and then come back.
  • kishu
    Hi,

Even if u use port 443/80/HTTP fallback, what if the proxy blocks request to the IP its connecting to? I guess its digsby's IP rather than all the networks...

I guess it wont work then.. right?

BTW, voted for it... I <3 digsby :)
  • jaydub
My only request would be to make it a portable application! I'd love to carry this on my usb drive because I use many different computers in a lab.

Outside of that, I'm a happy Digsby user and I applaud your work!
  • girl_has_brain
Digsby rocks! It really has revolutionized how people can keep up with their social network in all aspects. A chief complaint of mine is that you can't update your status on MySpace like you can with Facebook. Kudos to POP3 also!
  • Bradley Smith
338 Votes Now... and yur clearly in the lead for the best IM client, People please Vote this is an incrdible app.. Great Job Guy/Girls!!!
  • Just Voted You!! Rock On!
  • DJ
Any chance of seeing the ability to format specific parts of a message (IE italicizing one word) any time soon? I think speed should be the priority, but it seems like it would be an easy fix.
  • SeaNick
    Looking forward to it!

Though, can't wait to use it on my mac too... ahem... ;)
  • With regards to connections to social networks... do you guys have an API, or are you planning on building one? I'm a product manager for Vitrue (www.vitrue.com), a company that powers social media contests and communities for users. We've got instant messaging on the roadmap for our community product and would love to tap into a 3rd party instead of building something new. As Digsby gains market share (I'm now a user and self-proclaimed evangelist) I would love to build Digsby into our product offering. Please contact me if interested in speaking further.
  • PK
Reduction in RAM footprint would be welcomed as Digsby is currently using x4 that of my normal client. Pownce support would be great as well as maybe brightkite
  • @Andrew - We will bring group chat support in the near future. It is almost at the top of the todo list.

@Jon - We will add direct connect in the future.
  • The ability to auto-receive files from people on your buddy list (or people on a custom list) would ROCK.
  • Andrew
I NEED group chat. My friends always have big group chats together and I NEED to join in on them. This is the only reason they won't switch to Digsby.
  • Jon
Will there be a way to direct connect with AIM users? Like in actual AIM?
  • @Wally - a lot of that will be taken care of with this round of optimizations. The GUI responsiveness improvements included making them less CPU intense so things like popups and buttons draw 2x-3x faster.
  • What about less CPU usage?

I cannot use Digsby in my EEEPC at all, since it chokes so much CPU.

I have noticed the real slowdowns are:
Whe fetching for the first time the MSN contacts.
When that that fancy and useful popup with a new message appears.
When talking to more than 2 contacts.
When talking to contacts and scrolling the contacts view.
  • Memory leakage killing would be rad. As would a sexier looking interface (I'm shallow).
  • Amanda Regan
The ability to find other users currently online by location or messaging software would be good.
  • zek
when can we expect the update with the MSN protocol? it sucks that my friend can't see me online, which is every single time.
  • TY
Yes... SKYPE! That would rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make it happen ... because we know you can :)
  • Bastian
    Hi Guys!
I'm looking forward to the next release - cutting down on memory usage will be of great use!

If you think in the direction of extending social network support - do think of flickr :-)

    Best regards,
    -bastian
  • kamal salah
forward digsby...forward we are looking forward to new issues....
  • jiu2k
Awaiting Thai language not displayed in conversation window to be fixed real soon....
  • Naren
    Yes... Skype, please :)
  • @Morghus - Some services allow you to connect on ports 80 + 443, which are usually not blocked since those are HTTP/HTTPS. There is also an HTTP fallback mechanism that makes the traffic look completely like web page requests.
  • dehan
Hey could you consider also adding theconnection for SKYPE!!1
  • kermy
    Bring down da thunda!
I've bee waiting for a memory fix so i can use digsby since my P.O.S machine doesn't have that much ram to pass around.
    Looking foward to it.
  • Responsiveness <3

How do you go about connecting to IM networks regardless of firewalls and proxies?
  • @Kev - no guarantees but at the rate we are progressing it should be pushed out in about a week
  • Zathman
This next release is going to be great :) Looking forward to it. Digsby - 66 Votes & Counting...
  • Kev
All of this sounds great! Do you guys have an ETA to release the next build?
