Build 60 – Private Alpha Release
We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 60, r22406 r22438 r22453 r22501 r22523 r22564) which introduces a few more bug fixes as we prepare for the next public release. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:
-
Fixed a few major memory leaks
-
Added more diagnostic info to help us hunt down memory leaks – if you see Digsby using a ton of RAM (ie: over 200MB) please submit a bug report
We are hoping (once again) that this alpha becomes the next public release so if you run into any new bugs please let us know so they can be fixed before the build goes live for all users. If you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.
Update 1 (6/12/2009 11:45am): We just pushed out a patch (r22438) fixing a few minor issues:
- Fixed a bug with conversation previews in preferences
- Fixed message unread counts for LinkedIn
- Fixed a bug with setting different status messages
- Fixed a bug that caused your status to reset after doing a buddy list search
- Brought back the “Promote Digsby Status”
Update 2 (6/12/2009 5:45pm): We just pushed out a small patch (r22453) fixing a bug that was introduced in today’s release that prevented you from changing your status in some cases.
Update 3 (6/17/2009 5:00pm): We just pushed out a patch (r22501) fixing a few issues:
- Fixed the major memory leak we’ve been hunting down
- Fixed a bug that was causing Digsby to crash for some users
- Fixed a bug that caused the groups “Root 0″ and “Root 1″ to appear on login
- Added a separate notification type for messages received which are hidden to icon tray
Update 4 (6/19/2009 11:55am): One more patch (r22523) fixing a bug and adding a feature:
- Fixed a bug that caused other “paged” popups to fade out while you are interacting with one of them
- Added Retweet to Twitter
Update 5 (6/23/2009 11:30am): We just pushed out a patch (r22564) fixing a few issues:
- Fixed two significant memory leaks (thank you alpha testers for your help hunting these down)
- Fixed a bug with buddy list rearranging where the visual indicator was incorrect

I just wanted to say thanks for the great progress. Digsby has become an awesome client over the past year-ish that I’ve been using it. Just keep up the good work, and I can’t wait to see what new features you have in store for us!

In windows 7, there still is a bug concerning how the tray icons get hidden or not. My wish is that eventually, Digsby lets you only display the tray icons that you want (just gmail and twitter while hidding facebook and hotmail).
But for now, I use win7 to hide the icons I dont like from the tray, and at some point, the digsby tray icons were single-customizable. Now they’re all “joined” (hide one, hides all).

Is there anyway to download digsby without the spy/adware and the annoying hacks you have to do to remove it?
Brandon Said,
June 11, 2009 @ 12:11 pm
disregard that, it wasn’t digsby as it turns out, or maybe it was, somehow win7 lost all of my permissions, this has happened in the past as well, have yet to hunt down why it does that.

My Digsby doesn’t want to update to latest version (restarted twice, tag.yaml in correct place)…

I didn’t see it as one of the bug fixes but the “Show Extra Info” feature in the Buddy List preferences correctly works now.
Brandon Said,
June 11, 2009 @ 3:45 pm
skyy there’s never been any spyware to my knowledge, the extra apps in the digsby installer are all 100% optional the last time i did a clean install. so there should be no “hacks” needed to remove them.
they’re in the installer as a way for digsby to generate revenue to continue development.
Digsby Said,
June 11, 2009 @ 4:57 pm
@skyy: The offers in the installer are 100% optional. You can click “Decline” to them and just install Digsby.

For some reason after the last release the buddy list stopped remembering the positioning on my screen (docked left). Now it always appears docked right. Anyone know a reason for this?

WildCat420 Said,
June 12, 2009 @ 6:54 am
hey there guys! Hope i’ve been some help lately! Haven’t experienced much, but those last few errors i kept getting. Well, not so much “errors”, more like with the burning i’ve been doing…it slows things down (i think that was the culprit…but, you guys have the logs!
So, here’s hoping i don’t get any “CPU Overheating” errors again…price ya pay being on Windows 7 and attempting to do more than 2 or 3 things at a time! lol

Hey guys, not that I want to sound ungrateful or critical of fixing the memory leaks and stability bugs, but I thought the point of the alphas was to allow you guys to get back to new feature development?
Anxiously awaiting Windows 7 superbar improvements!

I don’t know if you have this fixed or you’re not planning it in the first place. But I think a “chatting as invisible” feature should be there very soon. I think many people want it.
Anyway, you’re doing very hard work and we appreciate that

Could you guys make it possible to completely remove digsby from your computer?
Because I was using it and made some groups but later I wanted to delete them but deleting groups doesn’t work so I tried uninstalling it but when I went to reinstall it, the same groups showed up and all the customizations were the same.
All I want it to combine two groups into one or just completely delete one group. Help plz?
Brandon Said,
June 15, 2009 @ 2:35 pm
kylewebs, that’s not something lingering on your machine, that’s something that you created on the digsby servers or in one of the im clients servers you use.
if you want a clean slate you could create a new digsby account maybe?
i’m not sure what the extent of your customizations was but you should be able to reverse them without too much trouble.

So since this hopes to be the next public release, is there another alpha already in progress that will replace this one once it’s no longer in alpha??

LOVE this program – I can’t WAIT until it comes out for OSX. I would (this is a subtle, like a brick, hint…) GLADLY *pay* $20 bucks or so (you’d triple the volume at $9.99) for this on my BlackBerry as it’s SOOOO hard to find a multi-protocol IM client that doesn’t SUCK on the BB….
Digsby Said,
June 17, 2009 @ 8:30 pm
@Bill: Definitely in progress!

Thanks guy , even thought i’m not a alpha testing, it’s good to see you guys keep on fixing the bugs and errors before releasing, better to release something ready and stable.
Please continue the focus on error, bug and memory fixing and less on features, or else Digsby will lose out on it’s strong points.
thanks
Digsby Said,
June 19, 2009 @ 9:43 am
@SirMuffinMan: Unfortunately, their API servers are reporting bad data so there is not much we can do until they fix the issue on their end.
Mike Said,
June 19, 2009 @ 10:26 am
@JAmes: i dont think they can focus any less on features than they already are…next step would be taking out whatever is already there for gods sake
Jacob Said,
June 19, 2009 @ 12:05 pm
Acutally, SirMuffinMan reminded me.
I have a poke on facebook, that shows up on Digsby, but not facebook. Where does this bug lie, and where do I fix it. This bug shows up on two computers.

Thank for the RT functionality. When can we expect either click-to-reply on tweet previews, or reply in preview as IM does? Right now it’s quite onerous to see a tweet come in, and then have to track down the tweet timeline to reply to it.

Hi! There is a major problem for Eastern European users – all the letters that are not a part of Western alphabet are displayed as strange symbols, that makes a lot of messages unreadable. Do you plan to add more sign sets?

Can someone front up and tell me if its true Digsby hijacks your CPU for external tasks?
bodyk Said,

Hi! Could you guys add an enhancement to the Past Chat Browses? It shows only ICQ numbers, and that would be great if it could display the nicks that one has in CL.
Digsby Said,
June 22, 2009 @ 9:06 am
@bodyk: Definitely. We have a number of enhancements lined up for the past chat browser.
Brandon Said,
June 22, 2009 @ 12:01 pm
winnifred, there’s no malware. no “hijacking” either. that’d be sensationalizing the distributed computing module in digsby used to help generate income for the app.
it’s 100% optional, and easily switched off.
i use digsby on my laptop exclusively and the distributed computing has never interfered with my computing.

to turn off useage of computer downtime just go
help
support digsby
click disable next to help digsby conduct research.
it is not a secrete or hijacking about the research
it is mentioned in the FAQ
next time might be worth reading such things as FAQ’s before posting in an alpha blog.
forum again would have been another option
