Build 59 – Private Alpha Release
We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 59, r22273 r22291 r22310) which introduces fixes for the (hopefully last) remaining known bugs in this series of alpha releases. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:
- Fixed a bug that caused saved status messages to be lost when switching between the alpha and public release
- Fixed a bug that caused AIM and ICQ accounts to disconnect regularly
We are hoping that this alpha becomes the next public release so if you run into any new bugs please let us know so they can be fixed before the build goes live for all users. If you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.
Update 1 (6/3/2009 4:00pm EST): We just pushed out a patch fixing a few new issues that were reported in this build as we prepare for the next public release. Fixes include:
- Fixed a small bug with AIM login
- Fixed a small bug in the preferences window
- Fixed a bug that caused your status message not to highlight when clicking the orb to change status
- Fixed a bug that caused Digsby to exit even if you click no when multiple tabs are open
Update 2 (6/4/2009 4:20pm EST): We just pushed out one more small patch fixing a bug that caused the buddy list to show groups “Root 0″ and Root 1″ on login along with a fix for a CPU spin related to IMAP and AOL Mail accounts. The new release number is r22310.

How about the memory requirements? It seems to me that the resource requirements are much higher than that of the counter part IMs ?
Bert.
Digsby Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 4:05 pm
Bert: If it is using a lot of RAM, use Help > Send Bug Report to submit a diagnostic log. We’ve gotten RAM down quite a bit over the past year. Digsby running with 5-7 accounts takes up as much RAM as AIM running by itself with 1 account.

“Ctrl + C support in the infobox” Best part of the update, thanks guys!

While looking at contact list, nothing else open my Digsby uses 26MB of ram with 3 email accounts, facebook, and 3 IM services.
A few months ago I remember it using 50MB, which is as much as my winamp loaded up with all my music
Oren Said,

Any chance you could implement the WM feature that allows multiple concurrent logins?
The latest WM clients support this, so there’s gotta be something in the protocol…
Digsby Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 4:14 pm
@Oren: Our WLM protocol could definitely use an upgrade to fill in that plus several other features.
WindPower Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 4:17 pm
While looking at the contact list with 8 IM accounts, 2 Twitters and 2 email accounts, Digsby uses ~62 MB. It goes up to 80 MB with a conversation window opened, and ~8 M when closed.
WindPower Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 4:19 pm
(Not like there’s anything wrong with that, I’m fin as long as it stays low when closed. My post was just to give more statistics.)
@Digsby: While you’re at upgrading the WLM protocol, please support sending messages to “Appear offline” contacts too? My buddies never receive my message when they’re in that state and I try to contact them by MSN.

June 2, 2009 @ 4:19 pm
I’d like to chime in here and note that I also remember the 50MB+ Digsby of a few months ago.
My current install of the Alpha build takes up 22MB running multiple email accounts with tray icons, facebook, twitter, AIM, google chat, facebook chat and MSN messenger.
DeanFX Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 4:19 pm
Maybe you could also add a feature to allow AIM users to enter chat rooms, as I still see this feature has not been added. (I may be wrong).
Jon Said,

Digsby still won’t feel close to a finished product until you can stylize individual words.

It woudl be good to be able to send messages to folk while invisble, while at work I often sit invisble but it doesnt let you send messages, can you fix please

I think we need to extend the option to chat right from the alert bubble to email messages as well.
Chris Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 6:39 pm
I was going to post a snarky comment, but Jon said it best. Please, please add text formatting. If it cannot be done, just tell us and I will gladly switch services.
Digsby Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 8:20 pm
@Chris: One of the devs is actually working on that now

the msn server list where you can ignore and unignore people.

Just want to complement you guys. Your respectful and knowledgeable interaction with users should be a model for other software companies. A dependable app with a footprint that keeps getting smaller shows your coders know how to code. Props to you.
mark Said,

@digsby – please, please, please implement a status changer when windows is locked or screen saver is activated! This is a big downside for me.
TQ Said,
June 2, 2009 @ 10:54 pm
Er, outside of IRC, I mean.
x-15a2 Said,

The only thing I’ve noticed is that when someone sends an IM with a long non-space string (like a long URL), the formatting gets messed up because line wrapping is not forced to to size of the window.

Digsby has been really unstable for me the last couple updates. Memory leaks after an error and the popup for “sending diagnostic info” shows up.
Mike Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 2:54 pm
good job… digsby is approaching a year without a single added major feature eventho whatever we request is supposedly on the top of the to-do-list and everyone is always supposedly working RIGHT NOW on whatever feature we ask…and we wonder how in the world people voted for bush again after his lies and misinformation
i think for the anniversary of no-feature-added year you should stop fixing problems that affects 0.01% of the users have and work on the issues that 95% of the users are asking for…kinda makes sense huh?
Rolando Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 4:15 pm
Please add a Retweeting option. Pretty please!
ACohen Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 4:20 pm
Woah! I just installed the 6/3 update to Build 59 and the memory usage doubled to over 40MB.
Jacob Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 4:23 pm
@Mike,
Just be grateful it’s free…
Besides, they want to get it stable before they add anymore features. Look at Trillian. That’s not stable and has more features. It sucks.
x-15a2 Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 4:31 pm
Mike,
Maybe it would be easier if you just used Trillian or some other piece of junk instead of having a sucky attitude about a good and free application. If you don’t like the program, uninstall it and move on. Please.
manu Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 4:57 pm
thanks dev for MERGE contacts option , i dont know if it was before or its new but really thanks
Cole Said,
June 3, 2009 @ 5:16 pm
@Mike: Actually, I would prefer to have a basic, stable IM program than a flashy, buggy one. What’s the point of having a bunch of features in a messaging program when it keeps crashing, has memory leak problems, or is otherwise unreliable with connections?
@Digsby: I want to say THANK YOU for doing exactly that; making a stable beta that we can use. Most recent patch solved most my recent problems, so thanks again!

Hi there…
Why is it that, even when my Digsby client updates to a new alpha version, when i click on the Help -> About Digsby menu, it still shows my version as Digsby build 22224?
I copied the tag.yaml to my Digsby main program folder yesterday and restarted Digsby. It started downloading a huge update which I pressumed to be the alpha release. But when I checked my version… I was surprised to see it as build 22224 which is a public release.
Then just today when I opened my started my Digsby client, it downloaded whaI pressumed to be the update which should make my version become r22291. But when I checked, it was still version 22224.
Help please. I’m confused.
God bless.

My jabber account still has the connect/disconnect/connect/disconnect problem due to the way Digsby handles errors. This has been on your list for almost a year and it’s still not fixed =(

please please allow us not to register a new digsby account, but just use all of the configurations on the same folder.
Jimmy Lee Said,
June 4, 2009 @ 9:01 am
@Digsby: Thanks for all the work you do. Don’t listen to nay-sayers like @Mike who are probably Trillian fan boys (or jealous Trillian devs). You provide an amazing piece of software that is totally free. Anybody who complains about that has a clouded view of the world that we live in.
Digsby Said,
June 4, 2009 @ 9:12 am
@Chuck: It sounds like part of the auto-update failed to download. Use Help > Send Bug Report after logging in so we can take a look at what went wrong. It may just take a few restarts to get the update.
Shoeb Ahmed Said,
June 5, 2009 @ 2:32 am
I dunno. I log into about 2-3 MSN IMs, and I can never seem to sync block/unblock data. Plus, I can’t seem to even block/unblock.
Jacob Said,

Can we have an option for the tray icon to change, but not blink when you have a new conversation?
Thanks.

I noticed a few updates ago that yahoo.com.au email address no longer logged in.
It use to work fine with the standard @yahoo.com that is available in digsby but now doesn’t. any chance on fixing that?
Also mine downloads new updates whenever it is mentioned on here about alpha updates but the build says r21895. That was the the last beta update i got before copying tag.yaml file.
Bug report sent about the build.

look forward to the next public release, digsby is still my no 1 choice if only close with a old msn version becasue at times it still have weird errors , mainly i’m using on msn.
Even thought i’m wishing for more features, i rather the next public release after this upcming one focus on making disgby existing features more stable and error free along with smoother intergration of current features than trying to add any major features for now.
Thanks.

hey!
i have been using Digsby for the longest time now and from the very beginning my only point of contention has been the level of memory usage. i am currently running build 22310.
with the following running and no chat windows open its taking up an min of 50mb and sometimes going upto a 100mb!!
IM-3
Mail-3
facebook
twitter
could you guys tell me if you guys have the same memory issues?
also i tested Trillian Astra today. it absolutely pales in comparison to Digsby and has a really looong way to go to catch up.
but again, with the same number of applications running on Trillian Astra, it took up only maximum 35 mb!!
