    To be fair the list ought to include Trillian or Astra or something. What’s up with this? The results aren’t going to be very accurate or meaningful with this clear bias by omission.

    @Dillon-

    The nominations were submitted by about.com readers. From the article: “In March 2008, we asked our readers to nominate their favorite instant messengers…”.

    I agree that it is strange that neither Trillian 3.1 or Astra made the list, considering the brand has been around for almost 8 years.

    I won’t complain about free publicity though. I’m amazed at how big of a turnout there was from Digsby fans (thanks guys!).

    That’s a good point, thanks for pointing that out. I didn’t mean to come across as biased myself. I’m very excited about Digsby and how fast it is being developed and the features it already has.

    Sorry for the double postage, I guess it took a while to update. Feel free to clean that up :)

    @Dillon,

    I’m sorry..but a nomination for a 2008 Best IM award for Trillian 3.1 is just insane. Sure its been around for years, but 3.1 is outdated and in alot of instances, broken. And I’m sure there are not that many Astra users as it may seem sometimes (closed Alpha and all). So it makes sense to me not to see Trillian up there, esp seeing the features that most of the ims that were in the poll, are not in Trillian 3.1.

    Alright, I think I’ll go vote for Digsby, but only if a feature or two is promised to me soon: Smileys. Themes, disabled images, whatever. I can hardly stand the default…sorry. Same with sound notifications. As far as I can tell, you can’t browse to get new sounds…you’d probably just have to change the file in the folder (same with smileys), and that’s too much work, especially if I didn’t know how to do that (I do).

    Great service, though. I recently switched from Pidgin (which I miss from time to time, I’ll admit). Until a few things get added here, I’ll probably still keep a copy of Pidgin on my compy.

    @Rick - we will add this ability in the future. We will let you choose a smiley set, sound set, skin, conversation theme, etc. and give you the ability to download additional ones from our website.

    @Steve - That’s great and super reassuring to hear. You can bet I’ll stick around. :D

    I recently started using Digsby but I definitely voted for you. I have been a Trillian user for quite sometime and I do have to say that as much as Trillian has going for them, they have become a resource hog.

    Digsby has been the best alternative I could find. I cannot wait to see what you have up your sleeve for Digsby once it comes out of beta.

    Digsby is here to stay and I am backing you up. You can count my vote.

  15. Steve Said,

    April 16, 2008 @ 4:10 pm

    @Rick - glad to hear it. We just want to get the bugs and performance issues resolved before we move back to features.

    Hello.

    Ive managed to make a short review of Digsby on my personal blog. Unfortunately for you it’s in Romanian but nevertheless i’m trying to put a good word for it. Because, i must admit, he’s worth it. I was amazed by the good and usefull features i discovered and was about time somebody challenge (for real) old YM

    PS : I am willing to translate this program in Romanian so if it’s ok with you … you have my email

    Best regards

  26. Steve Said,

    April 20, 2008 @ 11:12 pm

    @Davide - tomorrow :)

    @Clocky - thank you! In the future we will put up a wiki that will let our users translate Digsby into lots of languages. We will also add spell check in other languages at that time.
