Build 55 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 55, r21904 r21909) which introduces fixes for several issues we introduced in the last alpha release along with a Facebook protocol fix. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Add support for a change in the Facebook protocol that broke login
  • Fixed the most common cause of crashes in the latest alpha release
  • Fixed a bug that caused Digsby to crash on startup on older computers
  • Fixed a bug that caused Digsby to leak RAM and go into a CPU spin

If you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com. If Digsby crashes or tells you it is running slowly please submit the bug/crash report.

Update (5/7/2009 7:45pm): We just pushed out a small patch fixing the issue with POP mail accounts.

@SacredCultivator - Thanks! I can finally use my old emoticons :) Somehow I didn't see that option before...

I used to a big fan and supporter of Digsby but I'm fast losing faith. The integration to facebook, emails, etc, etc are all nice-to-haves.

If the connection to yahoo and MSN IM are unstable, Digsby will lose a lot of users. Has Digsby become too 'fat' a software that it is losing its IM capability?

Still black and white boxes instead of buddy icon. I am an alpha tester, if that matters. Please some advice how to fix this in the latest alpha release. Hate the boxes so much. It worked in the earlier versions.!!!
  • There seems to a problem with gmail contacts, not all of them are showing up in my buddy list, been happening for about a week now

Hey you guys got mentioned on Paul Thurrott's Windows Weekly podcast today! Congrats.
  • I like the work you've done on your site. It's interesting and well worth the time to visit.

Any chance of Google Reader integration at some point? :)
  • @indigo: Go to, "Tools" -> "Preferences" -> "Conversations" -> "Enable Emoticons" (And then pick whichever you prefer)

Looks awesome. If it just wouldn't rely on a terrible installer that works through IE it would be fabulous.

I am still confused on how to change my emoticon pack in this new setup... :(

I am an alpha tester and with the latest update I noticed, that the display pictures of my contacts and me disappeared whaen chating. Instead on their places are white and black boxes. I once had this problem with the regular digsby version, but after becoming an alpha tester and then downloading ine of the updates, this problem went away. Obviously this problem came back.

I am using Vista Home Basic.

The update notices are kinda annoying. Considering you updated a lot recently.

My old Dell P3 immediately crashed on installs of release 53.
I can't begin to tell you the lengths Steve went to getting to the development of 55 and the success I had with that install.

It clearly demonstrates the value of the alpha testing, and kudos once again to the entire development team for their ongoing efforts in making an excellent product better.

We ended up buying a 433 Mhz Celeron to be sure. It has MMX, but no SSE of any sort, which is what was crashing, SSE2 instructions unsupported by your P3. Looking for a better testing method, but this was a quick way to see what definitely wouldn't work.

    Still no linux version?

There's Pidgin, but it's not as good!

@All: We just pushed out a small patch fixing the POP issue.
  • Revanth
Thanks for fixing that memory leak; it was giving me a headache the last few days.

@Renee: 99% chance the hiccup is due to wireless router. To confirm, try using a wired connection without the router and you should not have the problem anymore.
  • Can't get POP3 accounts to connect...
  • Jay
Whoops. Looks like this patch broke email checking. Every attempt to connect fails, despite the server being available and credentials matching.

    :P
  • Renee
Just curious about a glitch, it may just b my computer too but, at least once a day if not more my Digsby will disconnect and then reconnect all my connections. This 'hiccup' has happened a few times during rather important conversations and continues to happen. I have a cable modem with wireless. I realize that it may be an issue with the wireless that I use but I thought I would put it out there if anyone else was noticing this problem.
