Build 25 - If You Build It, They Will Come
We just pushed an update (Build 25, r14142 r14158) that introduces many new bug fixes and enhancements. It took us longer than usual to get this update out because we did not want to push any more updates until the new auto-update system was ready. As always, you can read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes:
- New auto-update system: Digsby not launching due to partial updates should be a thing of the past. Since we are still using the old system to move to this build, a small portion of you will still need to run the installer if you get stuck. If Digsby fails to start after this update, download and run the installer here.
- Twitter Improvements: We have gotten a lot of feedback on the new Twitter implementation and much of that has been implemented. The new Twitter boasts improved performance, shorter default update timers, options to configure update timers, ability to manually update, and several other enhancements.
- SNAC Error Fixed: This was caused by a protocol change on the ICQ servers and it is fixed in this build.
The goal for the next build is an important one. Every time we hear about Digsby’s RAM usage the response is, “we haven’t optimized yet; we wanted to get it out to the public to start getting feedback.” That time has come! We are going to focus on improving GUI responsiveness and lowering our memory footprint significantly for the next build! Right after that, the next few builds will focus on all the bugs you have reported. Thank you for all the feedback and enjoy the new build.
Update 1: We have gotten reports of a few bugs in the buddy list and with proxy support. We are fixing these right now and will have a new update out shortly. (9:30pm)
Update 2: The bugs we introduced are fixed and we pushed another build. There are a couple minor issues left that we will fix in the morning. There will probably be another build tomorrow with a few bug fixes and then we will focus on performance! (1:20am)

I shut down/restarted Digsby to get the update. After the update it would not run at all. No error messages, nothing on the screen after clicking or rebooting. I went to the site and downloaded again and everything is back to normal.
I had been in on the auto-update test
OS: Windows XP/Media Center SP2
Thanks for all of the hard work! I LOVE Digsby!!!!!!!!!

Awesome. Been using Digsby for about a month now. Never used to use any except windows live (until they blocked it at my work).
I forgot the link to suggest a feature and im sure your’ve heard it time again, but what would make this better than any other msn clone, removing that stupid-o windows border. I.e. getting rid of ye-old windows title bar etc. Any plans for this?
Xander Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:01 pm
Same thing. I can’t start Digsby now. Hope we can get it fixed soon! Thanks for a GREAT app!!!!
Steve Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:02 pm
@Sam - this won’t happen in the future. The new auto-update system fixes this but updating to it used the old system. If you reinstall using the installer on our website it should work fine.
@SL83 - this happens if download one or more of the files fails. Next time you restart it will complete the update.
Mr. Gomez Said,

I was wondering if you guys are working on a conference chat feature. That is what’s been keeping us here at work completely ditching Pidgin on the windows machines.
Other that that Digsby is great! I use it at home and love it!
thanks for all the hard work!
Steve Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:07 pm
@Mr. Gomez - yes, we will add group chat in the near future.

Update worked, but is it a bug if my yahoo account is trying to send ims to MSN contacts?
wunderbar Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:16 pm
kept getting a connection failed message when I tried to log in after doing the auto update. Had to re download the installer files.
Steve Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:16 pm
@Tynan - Yahoo accounts can send IMs to MSN contacts. If you are on an MSN account and sign off, the “From” dropdown chooses another account to send from.
Paul Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:19 pm
Installed fine. However my contacts and my groups aren’t showing up anymore. I tried all the View menu options and still no go.
Thanks for the software, haven’t had any trouble with it up until now.

Hmmm Ok. Restarted. It updated. Now Group Offline contacts doesn’t work anymore.
I’m going to dowload the full install from the web and install using that. See if it fixes it.

@SL83 - what sorting method?
birdman Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:40 pm

came to the website and reinstalled it from scratch and it worked fine.

Still borked.
Advanced->Sort by Service, then by Name and Group by Service is checked.
SL83 Said,

If I uncheck Group by Service - Group Offline Contacts works.
Steve Said,

Every time I’ve reinstalled Digsby, it goes on and wipes out the whole friggin’ folder.
I don’t like the default skin and messagestyle and like to use other ones. The installer always wipes them. :((
Will the auto-update be nice and not wipe them? :/
ps: I tried using the “Application Data” location instead of the program folder, but the stuff doesn’t seem to be detected when it’s there.
Keith Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 9:59 pm
Same issues as Paul…was trying to view/hide offline contacts and re-folder them and now most of the view options aren’t working…exit and reload makes contacts come back, but still cant get the right combination of things showing and hiding correctly. Weird.
Steve Said,
April 10, 2008 @ 10:02 pm
@Alan - we will let you place these in your user folder once we open up skinning. Auto-update does not wipe them - the installer does.
@Keith - we are working on fixing this right now.

Had a successful update after a few tries. If the update fails, you would need to reinstall Digsby (otherwise it cannot be loaded) and try the update again. This would no longer be an issue once you have received this update.
Digsby Review: Save Precious Time With Digsby
“Now, thanks to Digsby, instead of spending between 8am - 9:35am logging in from one website to the next, launching one client to the next, by 8:05am you can have a good handle of exactly what’s going on - from your online contacts, to your emails and social networks.”

Updated and now my Socks 5 Proxy I use here at work no longer works with Digsby, obviously was working before the update. Uninstalled, redownloaded and reinstalled, still no workey.
Rick Said,

Does Digsby support access to regular US yahoo mail accounts? POP3 and SMTP is only supported in yahoo PLUS account, but I’ve heard of programs like YPOPS! and FreePOPs that allow you to access them anyways. I’m wondering if Digsby will be providing similar services in the future.. Also, I’m still having trouble accessing my hotmail email account (keeps giving me a Failed to connect to server error messege)…
Other then that, Digsby is working pretty well for me. Thanks alot for the hard work!

“Same exact thing, with me too. So it is definitely a bug of some sort. Sure you guys will fix it soon. But I gotta say, wonderful software, all the same. Thanks!”
It’s not a bug. Digsby doesn’t technically “support” custom skins just yet. It’s still in beta. Once they add support for custom skins, you won’t need to put it in the program folder to have it use them. And then the installer won’t wipe out your skins.
Basically custom skins right now are a “hack”.

RLC Said,
April 11, 2008 @ 1:39 am
Same “failed to connect” error here requiring a reinstall - on two different computers.
Also, for future patching, perhaps a countdown instead of a countup? Knowing that 1.43 megs of the patch have downloaded isn’t too helpful when I don’t know how big the patch is.

Not sure if it is a one time thing, but I am getting the following: “Connection Failed. Retry in %s” when trying to connect to Google Talk.
For some reason %s does not get translated into actual time.
I can connect to Google Talk, it’s just the error that is weird.

Graeme Said,
April 11, 2008 @ 3:02 am
With this new version, closing the contact list using the X button will reset the window position the next time you open it. Closing the buddy list by double-clicking the tray icon doesn’t have this problem.
On an semi-related note, I’d love to have an option to make the tray icon a one-click toggle.

freibooter Said,
April 11, 2008 @ 7:53 am
The r14142 and r14158 seem to contain a seriously annoying Twitter-bug that actually forced me to turn my Twitter account in Digsby off until it is fixed:
Digsby shows a notification popup about the last direct reply I received (the messages beginning with @myusername) over and over and over and over an over again - seemingly with every Twitter update done by Digsby … the same reply, dated December 7th 2007!
At the same time, “Replies” and “Directs” and “Archive” - everything except “Timeline” will stay completely empty in the Twitter panel … I guess I will try to delete the account in Digsby and re-create it.
freibooter Said,
April 11, 2008 @ 7:55 am
Nope, that didn’t fix anything … “Replies” and “Directs” and “Archive” remain empty while Twitter keeps showing notification pop-ups about their content over and over and over again …
Danny Fancher Said,

Peter Said,

I have same problem with Avish above. update was pushed last night, restarted digsby only to get a connection error. And I haven’t been able to start the program since.
I’d like ot reinstal with the latest version, but I can’t find a beta code. Which is a real shame, as I’m loving digsby. have it in my blog, for all email/im and I actually prefer following the facebook news feed in digsby instead of facebok page itself, whihc is slow to update and skips so many items!

@Zombiefly- we’ve got the blog comments set to ‘approval mode’ or whatever, so nothing goes to the live page until it’s approved - I’ll even have to approve this one (which I think is a bit silly). We’ve kept a lot of spam off the comments this way.
Glad to hear everything is working well for you =D
Katt Said,

I’m very happy with digsby. However (not sure why) it told me the connection was lost and reconnection had failed. The internet is fine and I haven’t tampered with my connection settings. Help?
Also, and chat feater would be SWEET!!! Even sweeter if you could make it voice and vid chat. On the voice chat, I found I prefer to do it through GTalk because their is less feed back. I.E. when I talk to someone via digsby, i can hear my voice coming out of their speakers and back into the mic. Then I feel like I’m havening to talk over myself and it drives me nuts. Also, there is a bit of voice lag. And vid lag but that happens. Anyways, without messing with volume or anything, i switch over and call that person via GTalk and the problem is fixed, along with the voice quality being better. I was wondering if the voice back is a problem with me or just a digsby quirk.
But yeah, digsby wont run right now. I click the little icon and it does literally nothing. It doesn’t even show up in my task manager.
Suggestions? Oh Oh Oh, Dez thinks there should be a vampire freaks app like the myspace app. And a Gaia Online app would be neet-o too.
