LifeHacker Loves Digsby
LifeHacker is holding a poll to determine the best IM client and Digsby is in the race as one of the top five even though we publicly launched just two weeks ago.
The article gives us a great review saying, “Digsby has taken the world by storm… Digsby is converting new users left and right with their simple but appealing formula: IM + Email + Social Networking = Digsby”

I saw the LifeHack post on Twitter and had to check it out. I have been using Meebo for a couple of years and SocialThing recently, but Digsby looks interesting, especially with the links into Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks to the article asking people to vote before this is why I even found Digsby. Tried it, and nearly instantly dropped Pidgin for it. Loving everything thus far.

I agree, hurry up and support the unix users. We’re growing tired of only having digsby in windows. I’ll even volunteer as an alpha/whatever tester. I happily test bleeding software and report bugs. Besides the download section is teasing too much, it’s said soon the entire time and I’ve not heard of any progress for the mac or unix crowd.

Wow. I’m really glad I came across the LifeHacker post about you guys. I installed Digsby this afternoon and it is spectacular. No more twenty thousand applications running at once. No more headaches. Thanks gang - you guys have a wonderful product on your hands.

Digsby is good… But I love the “Buddy Pounce” feature of Pidgin. Take this as a feature request…
Secondly, I like the synchronization of all my accounts to one Digsby account. (something which Pidgin does not have)
I would also like to see voice and video conferencing abilities using Digsby. Currently, the only messenger service that does this is Trillian Pro and I don’t want to spend $$$ into buying that pro version which does nto even look “cool”…

@Mugunth - click the “Call” button in the IM window

This program is fanTASTIC. I tried it out on a work terminal using Vista. My primary machine is a Macintosh however, so I will eagerly await the release of a beta for Mac. Keep up the good work.

Digsby is awesome, like Adium but more features!
When you start testing it for Mac, I’d be happy to try it out and help you look for bugs and that.

I also found Digsby through Lifehacker. Very good work! Even as young as it is, it’s the best IM program I’ve ever used. I’ve only had a couple of niggling issues:
1. Digsby doesn’t stay docked to the side of the screen between Windows sessions. It shows up in the right position and the right dimensions, but it’s just a regular window and I have to re-dock it.
2. If there’s an error when checking POP mail, Digsby doesn’t seem to give you any way of finding out what the error was. If there was something you could click that would give you the actual error message from the server, it would go a long way towards diagnosing problems with email.
Other than that, it’s been pretty smooth sailing. Full portability for USB drives supported straight from the installer would be friggin’ sweet. Keep up the good work!

Lifehacker is why I’m trying it! I’m pretty sure I’m going to continue using it, it’s great. Plugins, more skins, and a portable verion would be awesome.

Steve Said,

@JN - we just launched two weeks ago… give it some time
@kobraboy - absolutely, and you can take actions such as “Report Spam” or “Mark as Read” right from the notifications we give you
@Robert - bug 1 is already fixed and will be pushed in the next auto-update, as for bug 2 email us at bugs@digsby.com and we will figure out what is going wrong, portable version coming soon as well

I never heard of Digsby before the article on Lifehacker, and that is a shame. It is clearly the best IM client available–at least for my needs.

The biggest problem I have with this and other 3rd party IM service is entering my credentials, thus giving you access to my email, IM, etc. How do I know my credentials are safe and encrypted? Think people!
Steve Said,
April 6, 2008 @ 10:52 pm
@Johnathon - we are 100% transparent about our security procedures. See http://security.digsby.com

Just wanted to say, great little app you guys have here! I found it via the LifeHacker post and love it!
It’s replaced Live Messenger and GTalk running on my computer, as well as the Facebook and Twitter widgets on my Netvibes homepage that always took an age to load.
The tabbed chat is really well organised and the popups in the bottom corner are a great way to stay involved with chats, while not switching windows and losing your focus when working.
Great work!

I heard about this from lifehacker via meebo. I’ve replaced Gaim with Digsby.
One bug I noticed is that Google Talk doesn’t seem to connect on Digsby. Are the settings of “talk.google.com” and port 5222 correct?
Keep up the good work.
