Build 24 - Bug Fixes FTW!
We just pushed an update (Build 23, r13703 r13706) that fixes many of the bugs reported since our public beta release! We had quite a busy week, knocking out 27 bugs and enhancements while laying groundwork for a better auto-update system and a more robust bug reporting system, which will both be pushed out as soon as we are done testing them. As always, you can read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. Most notably:
- Brought back the “Show in taskbar” preference for the buddy list - hopefully bug free this time
- Numerous fixes for the “Listening to” feature including showing both title and artist in iTunes now
- Numerous fixes for spell checker errors such as URLs, numbers, and hyphenated words
- More reliable full screen detection on Vista - XP fixes coming soon!
Our focus right now is on the remaining critical bugs and the auto-update system. After that you will see some profound improvements in performance and memory utilization. If you experience any bugs, please email us at bugs@digsby.com.
Lastly, we want to welcome to all our new users! We are glad to have you join us as we continue improving Digsby! Leave a comment to let us know how we are doing.
Update: Pushed a quick fix for a bug we introduced that prevented a few people from opening IM windows.

Since updating to this release, I can’t open a new conversation window anymore. Neither by double clicking a contact, not by clicking on IM when viewing the profile, not by right clicking on a contact and pressing send IM.
Track Said,

I noticed the following under the Enhancements section of the changelog.
“Listening to” now shows as “Title - Artist” instead of the other way around
My preference in general is “Artist - Title”, maybe you can make it into a toggle to give everyone their favourite choice?
Great proggy, been using it for a few weeks now (since downloadsquad wrote about it) and it’s very nice, especially when you guys started optimizing the memory usage. Keep up the good work!
Steve Said,
March 26, 2008 @ 5:30 pm
@Stig - sending you an email to resolve your issue
@Track - the reason we did it is because so many IM clients show status message snippets right on the buddy list. If your playlist includes 50 songs by only 2-3 different artists, then your status message would always look the same to your buddies. That was our logic for the move… does it make sense?

Donnie Said,

The “Listening to..” feature with itunes is much better but still seems a little buggy at times. Being as it sometimes will not update the song playing or will not pickup on the fact I’m listening to music at all.
Collude Said,
March 26, 2008 @ 5:35 pm
@Steve - I agree with changing the now playing to Artist - Track. It’s infinitesimally more intuitive despite some people having their buddy lists set too narrow.
Track Said,
March 26, 2008 @ 5:37 pm
@Steve: Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense when you put it like that. I can live with it, just found it weird because I really don’t know anyone that doesn’t name their mp3s “Artist - Title” (with the exception of people that don’t even name their mp3s *grin*).

Oh, great work on the latest updates and features. I used Digsby for about a week during the first private beta, but went back to the Google Talk client. With these most recent updates, I’ve switched over to Digsby completely.

Help! I’m still on build 13522. After I heard about the update, I waited about 15 minutes and reloaded…nothing.
After that I’ve done a full uninstall deleted residual files, and checked registry for any instances of Digsby.
Then re-installed via new installed from this site.
I’ve done the above process about 3 times….the installed on this site still installs 13522.
What are some tips to ensure that I get the auto-update?

LOVE digsby… still hoping you can get the memory usage down, but the constant bug fixes, and auto-updates are done beautifully and quickly. You guys seem to truly listen to your users. I was thinking that maybe you could offer (during the installation) the ability to pick and choose what programs and social services you use, so that the program might become less bloated.
Overall, I look forward to the development of this program!
Steve Said,
March 26, 2008 @ 8:10 pm
@theplaymaker - we will get it down significantly. We have not optimized yet. However, the different protocols are not loaded until you activate an account so that has no effect.
Chris Said,
March 26, 2008 @ 8:10 pm
I wish Digsby would incorporate the functionality of allowing individual words to have bold, italic, or underline attributes, and have those attributes applied by the customary hotkeys (CTRL+B, CTRL+I, CTRL+U respectively) instead of applying these attributes to the entire text in a message window as it is currently.

On my XP machine, the app icon when alt tabbing is the windows default application icon when none is specified (i.e. the white box w/ a blue title bar).

I don’t know if it’s Digsby or MySpace, but for weeks I’ve had a “phantom MySpace Birthday”- Digsby keeps telling me there’s a new birthday alert when there really is nothing in my MySpace about it. Just thought I’d bring it up, not sure if it’s happening to others or not.
Digsby rocks! I have never liked an “all-in-one” messenger application until now!

@Oolyctus - it looks like you got a partial update. Can you download and run the installer again. We have a more solid auto-update system coming in the next build which will hopefully fix this problem.
@Liz - the ghost myspace birthday alert was fixed in this build
@eDRoaCH - as soon as the windows version is stable
@Millenius - can you submit a diagnostic log using Help > Send Bug Report. You can then disable the preference in “Advanced” under preferences until we resolve the issue
@Kyanges - the option is in the sub-menu of each of the contacts in your merged contact

Two features I’d like to see:
1. Option to set e-mail notifications to stay till you click on it or maybe have an X button in the corner.

Otherwise it’s a kickass application!

So I selected the account that I wanted a unique/different message on (check it and set it), but it didn’t set it any different than any of the other account. I just so happened to be a gtalk account, but I’m not sure if it just don’t work on gtalk or if it’s altogether messed up. I love this feature though! Just gotta get it working!
