Build 22 - For Our Next Trick…
Today’s update (r13070) has a fix for one of our most annoying mis-features to date. Quite a few users (and devs) have discovered that if you get a pop-up notification while the contact list is out of sight, you magically get the buddy list back again!
This gets annoying pretty quickly- so here ya go. There are a couple other minor bug fixes and enhancements that you can see over at the complete changelog but the amazing re-appearing buddy list is the primary fix. =)

Great job guys!

Good god why has the bug that causes full screen games to lose focus when receiving an IM not been fixed? Digsby is completely unusable while playing full screen games because of the constant minimizing. Some games don’t recover from being forcefully minimized either, so it’s as bad as crashing them.

The buddy list seems shows in the task bar no matter what option is set (show in taskbar) in for me in this build.
scud Said,

Just noticed that now the previous ‘taskbar’ fix has been undone and even though I have ‘Show in taskbar’ unchecked I’m still seeing the buddy list in my taskbar.

Thanks for the update. I did notice that pop-up window/buddy list thing a couple of times.
Is there any way to disable a certain account depending on which computer you’re using? I have a laptop and a desktop and have a different screen name for each one. I have digsby on both machines, but since they’re the same account, both screen names sign on whenever I start digsby. I don’t know if I’m missing something or that can be a future enhancement. Great work though.

This broke the new (and awesome) hide-from-taskbar-feature for me. Worked in b21, now shows in taskbar no matter what the setting.

Well, now the buddy list appears in the taskbar regardless of my preference. I guess I’ll send in a bug report.

It’s great! Now I see the manifestation of my contacts!
Digsby day to day life is better!
RJ-45 Said,
March 10, 2008 @ 3:54 pm
One thing …
In the list of contacts the avatars are deployed perfect but in the conversation windows shows a black box, not the avatar.
Another thing …
It is possible for future versions better integration with the “smiles” of messenger? Example (f) = flower, (k) = kiss, etc.
Again excelent job!!

Still patiently waiting chat room support!
And audio and video support!
Any: at the bottom, where our IM accounts show, wouldn’t it be cool to be able to change the status individually by just clicking that account?
JR Said,

Any possible way of getting IM to a cell phone feature on here?
Steve Said,
March 10, 2008 @ 5:46 pm
@JR - click the SMS button on the IM window. Or do you mean forwarding your IM’s to a cellphone?
Dave Said,
March 10, 2008 @ 6:32 pm
WOW just got a BETA key and i am totally amazed, very well done on Digsby, for future updates may i ask if “contact status” can be displayed in the “contact list” please?
Possibly also if the contacts name is too long (in the sign in notiforcation) it be shortened to: text… Signed on. so it shows “signed on” instead of the name going out of view?
again well done on this great Messenger cliant.
Regards,
Dave

Nice work, as usual!
Two things still bugging me:
1) Crashing every time I exit via the system tray icon.
2) Somehow after I change my status to offline, Gtalk is signing itself back in without my knowledge or action. I think this might be happening: when offline, Digsby is still keeping track of how long I’ve been idle, and then when I return trying to set me as Available again…? (I guess if it was doing that I would be signed back into AIM, MSN, etc…but this is specific to Gtalk as far as I know).
Ben Said,
March 10, 2008 @ 8:00 pm
Also one feature request - give an option for having the new mail notification cycle through all new emails (i.e. if I get two or three new emails when Digsby checks, automatically cycle through them before closing the notification…a la the native Gtalk client)
Ben Said,
March 10, 2008 @ 8:39 pm
Sorry for the triple post - with regards to #2 in my first post - this is definitely happening with ALL my accounts. As soon as I return from idle (move the mouse cursor) Digsby signs me back in to all accounts, even though the indicator in the status field still says “Offline”. Very annoying
Steve Said,
March 10, 2008 @ 10:45 pm
@Ben - we will take a look at the bug ASAP. It sounds like it will be easy to reproduce/fix.

a stupid question:
regarding Digsby updates, does the app updates itself automatically when i sighn in?? (it does say: “checking for updates” just before it connects..
if not, how can i update it manually..
thanx

I noticed this error in a pop-up notification today:
Error:
SnacError: ((1,’Generic’),(13,’Request Denied’),(None,None))
I only have one AIM account and a Gmail account configured.

Digsby Guys… hyperlinks now seem to open in new window instead of new tab. I don’t know if there is a prefrence i can swtich, but i much prefer new tab.
thanks,

Yes, it should update automatically when digsby starts. Check “Help - About” and see if you have the latest build number (r13070).

Just had to say, the absolute most impressive feature for me is the correct displaying of the buddy info on AIM profiles… NEVER have I seen ANY third party apps that work properly with the profiles, and this is by far one of the more important features to me. The only problem that i’ve had, is occationally some AIM profiles just don’t show up? The away messages always do, but sometimes the profiles do not. Hope to see a fix for that in future builds, but otherwise this is an amazing product, and continue to look forward to the development

Great job!
Just wonder if it’s hard to scale the font on the buddy list, it would be really great if I could set the font to really small one, like 8 or 7, so that the whole buddy list would fit in the window height.
Mike Said,
March 12, 2008 @ 2:12 pm

What your describing sounds like:
Preferences -> Buddy List page -> Advanced (button) -> and there are font face/size selection menus.
Is that what you’re looking for?

Still getting the bug that makes digsby incessantly download the latest update, but will never actually start. so i have to uninstall and reinstall to get it to work. + I also get a program crash message every time i quit digsby. thanks, keep up the great work…

I’d like to see the tabs in the conversation window a set width, until lots of tabs get opened (then they get smaller, like Firefox does).
I ask because I give all my contacts aliases (their real names), and a few peoples names I shorten to their 3 letter versions.
When I’m talking to two or more people like that, it’s slightly annoying trying to switch between the tabs while making sure you don’t accidentally hit the X that closes them cause each tab is so small.
kyleabaker Said,
March 13, 2008 @ 1:16 am
I’ve found a bug/annoyance.
When you’re changing your away message and click in the textbox to change it, you are unable to use Ctrl+A to select all text since this shortcut opens the add dialog. I think this should be corrected so it doesn’t activate the add dialog when the status textbox is in focus.
The taskbar regression (which has already been mentioned and a response given) is another problem.
Also, it is annoying to see the messagebox everytime you hide the menu bar from the contacts list. This should instead be changed to a tooltip notification similar to how trillian does it when you minimize the list for the first time. Clicking the notification makes it no longer show, but letting it time expire and disappear shouldn’t make it disabled.
Still waiting for signs of a linux build for my Ubuntu system!

Big bug… the loss of focus !!
Can you fix it please ?
1. I play in a fullscreen game
2. Somebody sent me an instant message… and my game crash or the windows is minimised
So, i must close digsby to play…

Feature request: Allow user to specify what exact web address is launched when going to an email inbox.
For example: I prefer the older interface of Gmail, and so my shortcuts in my browser direct it appropriately…however, if I launch gmail from a Digsby link/notification/system tray icon, it automatically goes to the default gmail address which turns out to be the newer version. (minor request, but please consider it! thanks!)

I have Digsby installed on my box at work. I have Gmail, Yahoo and MSN hooked up to it. However, i get spam IM from my yahoo account, and on my Yahoo Messanger account, I have the check box checked that blocks users that are not in my contact list but I still get the Spam. I was wondering if it is something that can be added to Digsby to fix this issue. I mean i can and have disabled Yahoo Messanger (it really sucks anyways) but since I have some friends that use it i would like to see if the problem can be fixed.

terrorbite Said,

Also, this isn’t a bug as such, but smilies don’t work if you use them in ().
Like for example, if I write this message to someone:
(yeah, that was funny :))
It doesn’t turn the
into a smile because there’s a ) following it. MSN doesn’t have those probs, so can it be fixed?
LudoMC Said,

Feature:
1/ Have the icon in systray green if everything os online, yellow if at least on IM is offline and red if everything is offline.
2/ Will you support IRC?
3/ Possibility to merge several contact (same person but on several IM)
4/ Why isn’t my avatar visible in the chat window besides the bubbles where I see my contact’s one? I always have a green digsby icon.
5/ Silent mode for games or movies and things like that, meaning that messages are received but no notification, no popup, no blinking icon on taskbar, just a different icon in systray.
That’s all for now
Great app. Look forward to future versions!
Akiva Said,
