Build 51 – March Madness

We just pushed a new release (Build 51, r21152 r21307 r21316) to all users. We have gone through several alpha releases since our last major update so there are are quite a few changes. This release includes all the features, bug fixes and enhancements in Builds 46 – 51 on our Change Log.  Notable changes include:

  • Added a “Local Mode” which saves all account info on your machine and uses that if Digsby is unable to connect to our servers to synchronize preferences.  Next time Digsby is able to log in, everything is synchronized.
  • Fixed Hotmail message actions such as Delete and Mark as Read, which broke due to a protocol change
  • Yahoo Protocol now uses their load balancers for more reliable login
  • Added auto-update capability for Windows 2000 users (if you are the admin account) and fixed several bugs that prevented some users from auto-updating
  • Fixed an issue that caused buddy list data (ie: merged contacts, nicknames) to not save and made preference saving more efficient
  • Changed the default port for AIM and ICQ to 443 since it is more likely to succeed in many firewall situations

So, what’s next?  We are currently wrapping up a few projects that will dramatically reduce Digsby’s CPU usage.  We’re also improving the reliability and speed of file transfers.  These changes will be pushed out to Alpha testers over the next week or two.  Once we make sure these updates are stable, we will push them out as the next major release.

While our alpha testers help us hunt down bugs, we’re switching gears into feature mode!  We have done a lot of work to improve stability and performance over the past few months so we’re going to take some time to work on all those features you have been requesting. We will focus on the most commonly requested features but we also have some plans of our own. Let us know what you want most in the comments!

We will keep pushing to make Digsby even better and want to thank all of you for your continued feedback and support.  If you want to tell the world about the Digsby, here are some ways you can help:

  • Post the news to sites like Digg, Facebook, Reddit, or Mixx
  • Invite your friends to try Digsby via Facebook
  • Write a review of Digsby on your blog
  • Use the “ShareThis” and “Buzz” widgets below to share the news

If you experience any bugs in this release, please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us.

Update 1 (04/01/2009 11:15am EST): We just pushed out a small patch fixing two issues.  First, a bug that was introduced that caused some users to receive an “Invalid Username” error on login.  Second, there was a small change in the Facebook API that caused the newsfeed functionality to break for some users.  This should now be fixed as well.

Update 2 (04/01/2009 2:20pm EST): One more small patch was pushed bringing the release number to 21316. This patch fixes an issue that caused “contact signed on” popups to show for all your buddies who were online at the time you sign on and affected a small portion of users. Thank you to everyone who reported bugs in this release and helped us hunt them down!

I would really really really like digsby to have a persistant window for twitter. As it is, I run digsby, and a seperate twitter client.

A seemingly simple enhancement that would improve the AIM functions would be to have bold, italics, and underline all able to be separated in one message. Much like the AIM client does and how many other clients do. As in, I’m typing an instant message, I want to bold one word or one letter even but not the entire message.

    Thanks for the release, guys!

pleeease a linux version…even if it is a trimmed down version at first. Or at least make it friendly to Wine

  13. Overkill Said,

Excellent. This local settings thing might come in handy, because I occasionally find problems with not being to connect to Digsby.

Oh, and any chance you folks will one day show the availability status in the system tray? I can’t name how many times I’ve accidentally kept myself marked as away, because I mostly keep Digsby minimized in the tray area. I saw various feature request sites that mentioned this, but I’m not sure if the developers are considering that at any point in the distant future! It would greatly improve Digsby’s usability just by adding this :D

Anyway, keep up the good work.

Main feature request is to have no reliance on Digsby server and connect directly to IM endpoints. Account/Login information doesn’t need to go through Digsby.

  22. Howie Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:23 pm

Ooohh… Dramatically decrease CPU usage. Now, I’m really excited!

  23. Digsby Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:26 pm

@Scott: You do connect directly to IM endpoints. You connect to Digsby servers to synchronize preferences so if you sit down at another computer the experience is the same. The connections to all the services happen directly between your computer and each respective service.

Since you asked for requested features in comments, I would say my biggest would be individual alerts for contacts. Like alert me when a specific contact signs on (or comes back from an idle state) by popping up a chat window or an alert.

  28. bubazoo Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:31 pm

whats ftw mean? some of you guys and your abbreviations lol

Mac version definitely! while I’m not a Mac user (who has a spare 1.5 grand lying around certainly not me! lol) I know alot of people who are, so that and linux is my top wanted feature.

my second, would be better myspace chat. facebook chat works beautifully, but myspace chat does not function at all. it tells me when I have new myspace messages, but the chat doesn’t exist yet, so thats my second.

would also like to see social sites like facebook and myspace chat, have their own listing in the contact list, instead of being mixed in with MSN users! That has annoyed me since day one that facebook chat was introduced! :)

    Now I’m investigating…
    Nice Job!

  31. bubazoo Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:34 pm

that way, when I’m chatting with someone in digsby, I can tell if a user is an MSN user or a facebook user, them being mixed together in the same group like that gets confusing after awhile, so each medium NEEDS its own group in the contact list! especially social sites.

  32. Brent Bonet Said,

    Mac Version.

  33. Digsby Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:37 pm

@bubazoo: In Preferences, you can sort and group by service. Also, some conversation themes show the protocol in them so you can tell while chatting with someone.

I want to suggest a feature : Individual Account Status.

Description : All IM accounts must have the facility to set their respective statuses separately & also remember the status between successive loads.

As of now Digsby allows IM accounts to be either in Online mode or in Offline mode, but Busy, Invisible & Away are also needed but, not currently present in Digsby. I’m sure many other users of Digsby would also need this feature.

I hope this feature is added in Digsby’s next build.

Everything apart from that is brilliant in the current version of Digsby.

This is the best multiple IM & email account client in the world so far & I think adding the above feature will add a feather to Digsby’s cap.

  42. Jay Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:52 pm

I like many others love this service. I’ll be a digsby user for life, and have recommended it to well over 50 people. I like the others would like to see the ability to italic/bold/underline a specific word and not the entirety of the message. I’d also like to see a way to minimize/maximize the ‘email’ section, much like the button directly above it for chat services. I have roughly 7 email accounts set in digsby, work, home, other related, etc. It takes up a substantial amount of my digsby gui. I’d GREATLY appreciate a way to minimize those with an arrow up/down like the chat-services one directly above it.

Thank you for all your hard work.

  43. J Thane Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:54 pm

When will I be able to make it so I can receive a notification ONLY when certain people come online? I asked about this in the forums long ago, people misunderstood and thought I wanted auto-messaging, naturally, the idea was lost.

This is important especially considering I don’t give a damn about my Facebook friends logging on and off, especially given how often it happens, but I want to know when a few select friends get on AIM or Yahoo.

After using AIM, then Pidgin (And didn’t YIM have it too?), Digsby will always seem somewhat crippled to me without this basic function.

(Not that I don’t still use it exclusively now.)
    Cheers.

  44. Digsby Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 12:54 pm

@Arjun: If you click the status dropdown and chose “Custom” you can set per-account statuses in there. Also, this one is a bit more hidden but if you right click the status orb on the buddy list instead of left clicking it you get a dropdown of status options beyond just Available and Away if you are logged into accounts that support more options.

An option to make contacts’ font size the same as yours would be much appreciated (for protocols that don’t send the font size – this stands out especially in the Satin theme, which defaults to a font size of ‘10px’ rather than ‘10pt’)

And Before I start let me say I’ve researched all and tried most others similar to Digsby both Windows Laptop And Pocket PC/PDA applications. Digsby Is The Most/More Feature Packed IM/Email Client/Handler out there that covers more of the mainstream clients most people use. MySpace being the main reason I stick with Digsby.2 Things I would extremely like/love to see is Myspace Built in IM handler like Digsby Has 4 MSN & YAHOO. And a close second is Digsby Mobile. Where are You ???!!!…Keep Up The Excellent Work And the effort to keep DIGSBY FREE.!.!.!.!.!.!

    Please add the following:
-Have Digsby icon in system tray display status (away, idle, available, etc).
-Add option for a shortcut key to show/hide buddy list and another one to show/hid active conversations.
-Add ability to have conversation skins do fade/animation effects such as Adium and to utilize most Adium conversation skins naively.

  59. Thomas Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 1:35 pm

That’s great, but how about you not FORCE an update on us? On top of that it pops up a box with no warning which wreaks havoc when I’m in the middle of typing something. Local version is the first step in making Digsby less controlling, but there’s a long ways to go.

  60. Isaiah Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 1:37 pm

Better customizations of fonts and profiles, add font characteristics to some but not all text. Zune media player support. For windows 7 some kind of widget integration (digsby -> widget, not the other way around). Something similiar to IM notification window that would be permanent, always ontop and movable. so that it could be used while working, without switching windows. also, movable notifications, so you can move them out of the way of something behind them.

  61. Andrew Garcia Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 1:41 pm

The MAC version! Where is it?

Digsby’s been out for quite a while and the demand for a Mac version is huge. Why is this not being worked on?

  62. Stefan 93 Said,

    March 31, 2009 @ 1:41 pm

You haven’t fixed problems with Hotmail yet! Neither Mark as Read nor Delete work.
Can you make Digsby to stop showing those notifications while we have full screen application turned on?

I would LOVE for text effects (italics, bold, etc) to only be applied to the text that is currently highlighted, both in instant messages and in buddy info. Also, being able to go mobile when you sign off/go into offline mode/go invisible would be excellent. These are the only two things I miss from using an actual client versus Digsby.

  88. Stephen Said,

Having proper group chat support (i.e., seeing who’s in a chat, unlike now where you have to find out) would be great.

I still cannot find a reason to leave Digsby and/or use a separate Twitter client. Digsby just simply rocks.

Here are some minior things I’d like to see:

    * Minimze/hide the main window when ESC is hit.
    * Better “control” over the popup and behaviour of conversation/message list for accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, etc. It is sa bit annoying and other accounts popup accidentally if the mouse hovers over the them. I don’t know exactly how to best define what would be ideal but something needs to change at some point.

Highlighting large blocks of text is a little weird in Digsby. For example, my friend and I were helping each other with programming homework, and sometimes we’d have to send each other the whole program–not large, but maybe like 60 lines of text. But highlighting those 60 lines to copy/paste can be impossible, because for some reason, while highlighting text, the window will not scroll. If what I want rolls off the window, I cannot highlight it. I can maximize the chat window then see if I can display the whole block there to highlight, and that will be okay, but sometimes that’s not enough, and then we have to revert to file transfers. I don’t know if anyone else has this problem, but it’s annoying when simply copying conversations, too; I have to go to the actual html file in the logs, and copy it from Firefox. I get this not-scrolling problem in Digsby’s log viewer too.

Before Digsby and Pidgin, I used Miranda IM for a while, and as buggy as that was I fell in love with how customizable it was–how I could add/take out components of the conversation like their screenname, the date, seconds, the incoming/outgoing icon. You could even force set the font of incoming messages. I set it up so that incoming messages were big and dark and mine were small and green, and no screennames were shown at all (redundant because I know who I’m talking to, it’s in the title). It was so efficient. It would be really cool if I could have those features in Digsby.

Sorry about the long comment. I tend to be overdetailed sometimes. Keep up the good work! Hoping you don’t go the way of Trillian like one skeptic friend warned me… I hope you always stay free :P

Love the new update and stuff, but I STILL say that the one thing Digsby is truly missing is compatibility with Windows Media Player. I for one don’t favor iTunes, but it’s the only player I have that works with the “listening to” status…

All I want are those CPU updates you guys mentioned and compatibility with Media Player… then life is goooooood… :)

-The ability to choose whether or not to log chats per contact, Not just all on or all off.

-Grouped/tabbed chat windows by contact group, ie: Work, Family, Friends, etc. Not just all in one grouped/tabbed window or all separate.

-Copy & paste chat logs from history, not having to open the HTML file.

If you have to copy Adium, you might as well make sure that the message window styles are also copied. Make them customizable. The incoming message fonts are TOO BIG and there is no way to control them. The only control is for your own outgoing message fonts. That is kinda disappointing.

Stuff that I need the most (i.e. the stuff without which I can’t consider Digsby to be better than Adium):

    - Proper emoticon support: That means them displaying properly (even if there is no space between them and the previous/next word/emoticon…), with animation, receiving/copying custom ones (easily, please!) and oh, a switch to turn them on/off at will.

    - Different status/display picture per account: Seriously, I don’t want to have to use he same display picture for every account I have, since I use them for different purposes and different people. Same goes for the statuses. It’s annoying.

A seemingly simple enhancement that would improve the AIM functions would be to have bold, italics, and underline all able to be separated in one message. Much like the AIM client does and how many other clients do. As in, I’m typing an instant message, I want to bold one word or one letter even but not the entire message.

@marco (and everyone else asking for linux)

Digsby DOES work in Wine at this point. I have 1.1.8 (latest version of wine) on Ubuntu 8.10 and it runs great. the only bugs it has are (1)lack of the fancier GUI (which may or may not be Aero-only, i don’t know) and (2) pop-up messages are not rounded and instead have an odd and large (though not huge) black box around them. you can just right click and clear those, though.

Build 51 has given me a nice fix that I appreciate every moment I’m using my PC—removal of Digsby in Taskbar. Doesn’t sound like much but I appreciate that. Digsby is nobody and nobody’s perfect! Oh, please roll out a chat widget that works on Wordpress.com hosted blogs. That would be the last piece of the puzzle for me!

The ‘Past Chat Browser’ should be easier to search through. Aggregating logs for merged contacts across several protocols into one contact would be great. As would ’search across all/date range’.

(As it is, I need to remember which day and which protocol I was talking to someone on for search to be of any use.)

    another suggestion…

much like outlook has the ability to flag or delete a message from the pop-up-notification of a new message, it’d be great to manage incoming messages from their bubble notification too… Delete, Mark as Read, Flag, etc. would be fantastic.

    Thanks,

    one more… noticed it today.

earlier today I found that the wrong profile was being considered as the default for a contact theoretically added in a separate AIM profile.

have two AIM accounts listed in digsby (”zzz” & “x@x.com”), x@x.com is for my work, and zzz is personal. I have a work contact affiliated with x@x, and when I double clicked on the contact name, it started chatting with my zzz account. Not cool.

the suggestion: perhaps some way to affiliate a “default” for the instances where there are multiples of accounts or contacts across accounts?

    Thanks all,
    -cb

I want to be able to…

    >make it so I can receive a notification ONLY when certain people come online. I want to know when a few select friends get on AIM or Ichat.

    >bold, italicize, and underline individual words.

    >have a group chat. (less important than the others)

    >see my full chat log. Trillian had a great system for this and whenever I needed to see something that I typed to someone a month ago (for example), I could click a button that would show me my entire history of conversations.

Another strange thing that I don’t know if it is a bug or a problem on my end is when scrolling up to see past messages, some messages are empty. As in, it will show that a message was made but there will be no words. This happens a lot with links that people send me. When I look back to go to that link again, the space where the link should be is just that- a space where the link should be.

Would really like to see the status bar icon change color or somehow let you know whether you are in the available or away state.

One solution would be for the Digsby guy’s shirt or hat color to change. Or he could close his hat over his eyes.

Currently, we have to hover over the left side of the window to check.

    Thanks!

The mark as read function has started to work once I re-updated Digsby, so I guess _someone_ is reading these comments.

However, inbox for various Hotmail accounts simply doesn’t open the respective Hotmail inbox unless I sign out from the old Hotmail account and update the cookie, I guess.

It used to work earlier. If I was reading email on H123@hotmail.com, and close the tab instead of signing out and then via Digsby want to check inbox on Name.Lastname@hotmail.com, it won’t sign me in directly and would give me a Hotmail page error “We couldn’t sign you in” or something unless I go back to http://www.hotmail.com, which would go straight to the inbox of H123@hotmail.com, and then sign out and then try via Digsby to go into Name.Lastname@hotmail.com. It would then work. Earlier, it didn’t require the sign out.

    Please to be fix, kthx.

The one functionality this doesn’t have that all other IMs I have used do not have the functionality to add a person to a conversation. At work this is needed and I am very suprise Digsby doesn’t have it.

A nice to have but not required is now playing that works with the ZUNE.

Something I would love to see you implement is the ability to adjust the appearance of the notification popups, more specifically being able to turn off the fading etc. Using Digsby in a Remote Desktop session is a major pain because every time a popup is triggered, it causes lag something fierce.

great job guys. most of my friends are huge fans as well, especially considering how the new AIM seems to hog more and more system resources with each passing day.

same concern as day one though…we really need in-line formatting. all the new features you’re rolling out are great for additional functionality and convenience, but in-line formatting is integral to the communication itself. when you’re unable to selectively emphasize your thoughts, it’s almost like losing a few letters from your keyboard.

ok maybe it’s not that bad, but i’m sure you guys get the idea.

  225. Jason Cramer Said,

    April 1, 2009 @ 2:18 am

I’ve loved digsby since the first day I laid eyes on it, and found that it was already the most efficient on system resources than any other IM app out there that I’ve seen. Now CPU improvements on the way?? AWESOME.

But as far as features go, I hope these don’t put us into a mode of hogging more resources than necessary. Maybe you can make it so that each section of additional features can be turned on or off so they don’t take up more resources if they’re not being used.

Also, I’d say google talk file transfers would be really really nice, so I don’t have to open gtalk every time somebody on there sends me something.

    @ Digsby – with ref to ur reply on March 31, 2009 @ 12:54 pm :-

When a status is set from the status drop down menu, all the IM accounts that are logged in simultaneously gets the same status.

I requested a feature to set individual statuses for different IM accounts. I suggest that the best way to do it would be to have a right click option on the IM account tab and have an option to set the status for that particular account only.

Right now the available options when you right click on the IM account tab are : Edit, Disconnect, My Account Info and My Web Profile. Adding a feature to set the “status”(extended drop down menu) in this list itself would help.

Also, it will be great if the current status message is displayed instead of a static “Online”(when connected) or “Offline”(when disconnected).

It could display Busy when set to Busy or Invisible or any custom status messages as well.

Not duplicating contacts in different groups and the option to delete a group without deleting contacts. Also, I think there’s a bug with blocking people. I’ve blocked several people and it didn’t say it blocked them. I blocked someone on AIM and they still saw me and were able to msg me.

    Hey gripers…
If you have a problem with Digsby, either respectfully request features or — don’t use it! Simple as that. No need for the rude comments I have seen here!

    :)

    Feature Requests:
    +1 for Mac
and +1 for the Twitter req’s like persistent window, customizable icons for multiple accts, RT, etc..

    Thanks for an awesome app!

How about alternate, AIM-like smileys. I don’t like that it turns the heart into a smiley. I think there’s another one I don’t like too…but being able to choose from like three or four sets of them would be nice.

I’m rather impressed by Digsby. While there are a lot of features I’m missing (invisible and SMS through Google talk doesn’t work) I still prefer Digsby over ANY chat service I’ve used (and yes, I’ve used a lot) I hope that Digsby continues to improve and starts implementing some of those features. Until then- I’m glad to say it is my favorite. (and I’m slowly converting my friends)

    DIGSBY is the BEST.

    To make it even better…

    1. add an “Always Appear Online” to the individual Stealth Settings

    2. disable Pop Up Notifications during full screen apps (games)

Great news. I persisted using it despite some bugs bedcause I am one of the unfortunates with a Vista 64-bit that nothing works with, it seems, but I have been using Digsby despite some small, occasional and irritating bugs that mostly are ALREADY gone!

So the fact that you have upgraded Digsby is great. I would even pay for it. That’s how much I like it.

+1 on the better, persistent Twitter interface. If I get more than 1 Twitter at a time, I have to move my mouse over to click the left and right arrows. The whole goal is to avoid moving my hands from what they’re currently working on.

    Keep up the good work.

Now, it will be nice too if you work on the File transfer system, cause it´s very poor at this time, and maybe digsby + Lastfm??

    Anyway Congratulations!

I love Digsby. My one gripe is not being able to copy/paste from the chat log. Also, have urls linked from there would be awesome.

A lot of times someone will send me a link that I need to go back to a few days later. With no copy/paste and no clickable links, I have to re-type the url letter-for-letter, which can be a disaster when it’s something like http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Amazons-Wireless-Reading-Generation/dp/B00154JDAI/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1238607424&sr=8-1

i have just 2 major requests (and one small) that i really would like (and that keeps me from making digsby my only IM client):

    - Google talk file transfer! now I allways have to open the google talk client when a friend wants to send a file

    - A function to search contacts like google talk/windows live messenger: just a searchbar at the top of the contacts that shows the contact when you type his name/adres

    - and maybe a localisation support for languages (for example dutch ;) )

I think those are my biggest requests :) but I really like digsby and I hope you keep up the good work, thx guys :)

I just wanted to say thanks to all the digsby folks. I can’t explain how much I appreciate the work being done on this amazing piece of software all at one low price-nothing. Seems to me that this has become one of the examples of how cooperation and the desire to simply just do something for the sake of wanting to do it. I know the latest releases have adware in them (which I was able to circumvent by some means) which is needed a little bit to at least make some money. If I had an abundance of funds (or any extra really) I’d very, very gladly provide the digsby folks with some tangible means of appreciation. So, once again, thanks to all those who work or help the digsby group. :) :):):):)

Actually one thing which is lacking in digsby and ignored by every one is the “yahoo chat rooms” of Yahoo messenger. In This Digsby Release we can only chat with friends who had already been added in our friends list. But If We want to find new friends then again we have to rely on yahoo messenger, since chat rooms are available only in It.So It would be nice if digsby integrates this feature Of “Chat Rooms” In Its Future Releases.

Really miss the ability to easily search past chats in log files the way Trillian does. Only major feature that causes me to miss Trillian as a Digsby user.

Also, cutting and pasting blocks of text from present and past chats must be easier.

I use IM for business – both of these are critical features, with the past-chat search ranked #1 for me.

Something I would really like to see (if possible) is a version developed for Linux. I’m currently a Windows user, but I will soon be (at least) dual booting with Linux (Ubuntu specifically) for various reasons. After an okay experience with Pidgin, which is the reason why I switched over to Digsby to try something new (and fell in love with it), I am lamenting the fact that there is no Linux equivalent of Digsby. I would be willing to use Pidgin, but I’ve seen Pidgin in Ubuntu and the features (or lack thereof compared to the Windows version) makes me not entirely happy about it.

I, too, would really like to see the AIM side fixed up in regards to being able to bold/italicize/underline/color/highlight just the selected portions of a message, as opposed to the entire message as is currently the case. The inability to do this is frustrating.

Also, italicized messages do not seem to appear in the actual chat window of sent and received messages, nor the logs, at all. They’re only italicized in the input area where you’re currently typing your message.

Please fix this! Otherwise, I’m loving Digsby.

  343. Yonah Said,

To hell with Linux! Digsby is great, but still needs some work before it becomes solid gold. Put all your time into the Windows version because we are the largest user group. Period. After the Windows version is mature, then consider Mac but don’t bother with Linux. Let them try to run it with WINE. It probably won’t work as good, but then maybe…. just maybe they will stop lying to people about how great WINE really is. Linux users are jerks. Let them get what’s coming to them after years of lies and trolling.

Let’s put some things in perspective here guys. I’m sure we’d all like to see these new and extra things such as different IM networks… group chats… little tweaks like changing the systray icon. But come on.

No seriously. Come on. Digsby staff, let me get the disclaimer out of the way: great job, don’t bite the hand that feeds me, it’s free… yadda yadda.

Anyway, since you’re “shifting gears” to features… how can you add more stuff that will complicate the program when so much basic functionality is STILL missing?

    1) It’s been said a thousand times: inline formatting. This is a no brainer. I would actually go so far as to say as the way it functions now, it is not only missing, it’s broken. I highlight a word and press bold, and the whole message goes bold. Nobody can tell me that’s “expected” behavior.

    2) No full log search. Why do I even have logs? I can’t copy and paste out of them either. What good is this to me? I can browse by past history and relive conversations, one by one. How sentimental. So if I know I sent my buddy a link, I can go day by day, trying to do a “find” for it… and when I do find it, I can… open up that HTML file and get it, or retype the link all over again into my IM window. Lame.

Direct connect, collapsing the mail section… all these added functions would be great… but if you can’t search or format text… I’d say that should be a LITTLE more important.

P.S. My yahoo avatar still shows up as a black box, to anybody on the standard Yahoo client. Still. Did I say still?

BUT.. There is always a but? Why o why can one not search chat history? Currently history is organized on a day to day basis. It is impossible to find the message you are looking for. Please make history SEARCHABLE.

In reply to Yonah, if you’re argument is that you can just use WINE then surely your argument would hold for Mac users as well who can also use WINE. So how about not bothering to release Mac and Linux versions at all because they can ’sort of’ run it using WINE.

    Sly,

That was the problem. The Download button on their site did not link to the current version. As soon as I installed, it tried to update again (which does not work in Linux).

I did eventually find link to the most current version in a forum. This does not help the typical user nor does it help at all those who do not have administrator privileges on their machines. If Digsby is going to disallow older versions from operating, there needs to be a little more notice than *starting right now*….

    - MIRC integration (why not?)
    - Ability to search for a contact if needed by typing in a optional search bar
    - Optional choice to have email address of contact display by default so i can tell who is who even when they change Screen name. Maybe one way is to have the email address display as the middle line between screen name and personal messgae of the contact.
    - Clearer indication of blocked contacts with a blocked logo or symbol. I honestly cannot tell whether i have blocked one on digsby whereas i can easily on msn because of the said logo
    - Ability to add and delete contact to various groups with a right click “send user to new/particular group” and “delete user from new/particular group”, right now you have to manually add each contact to a new group which is tiresome if u got 30 of them.
    - Ability to have an contact in more than one user group when specified by user
    - Ability to send individual message to an ENTIRE particular group with them receiving it as a personal message from you useful for school or work contacts.
    - Ability to have mutiple contacts join in on the same chat for group chat, akin to creating ur own chatroom with private and public chat window would be really COOL in my opinion.

Keep up the good work, i will be introducing digsby to friends for sure, am very happy with it after 1 month. I just hope Digsby continue to be a lightweight and user friendly app as it’s already is.. Cheers.

One last thing, make it optional for user to UPDATE the software instead of it being automated, for one i feel it is more respectful of user choice whether they want to upgrade to a newer version. So a “Check for update” option would be nice which allow user to auto check for update every time or check every “x” days specificed by user or when user select check for updates.

Here’s one more i just noticed as i use it, There is no clear indication of whether a contact is offline AFTER u started chatting with that person in a chat box. It simply says that person has signed off and as u type more msg in, you have to check manualy in buddy list to see if that person is offline or online as no more msg or indication of that. Hope the team are looking at the comments. lol.
