Electricity Issues
A large chunk of the neighborhood lost power including our facility. The backup lasted for the last 20 minutes but the electric company has not resolved the issue in time and our network is currently down. This will be resolved as soon as possible.
On a brighter note, a release that goes live next week will include “local mode” functionality we have been working on so if this happens again, your use of Digsby will not be interrupted. Digsby will load cached preferences and account info from your hard drive and then resynchronize when it is able to establish a connection to our servers.
Update (12:30pm EST): Two of the three power sources coming into the facility have been restored so the servers are back online. However, until power is fully restored we may not be out of the woods yet. We’ll keep you posted.
Update 2 (2:30pm EST): Everything is still online and all power has been restored to the building so we expect things to remain stable. This issue actually pointed out a few issues with “local mode” since Alpha users already had the functionality. We will patch it up and push another Alpha release with the fixes next week. The next public release should also be sometime next week.

Thank you for posting this. I was wondering why Digsby would not work for me… now I can stop trying to “fix” it.

The Local mode functioned great. Sorry to hear of the power issue, but for us Alpha Testers we got the test we wanted.
Works great. Thanks Guys!!!

i love you guys. what other companies are committed enough to just be honest with us and say, hey, sorry it isn’t working, but we’re trying to get it back up, and we’ll let you know when we do.
best software team eva!

Well, I’m just glad it isn’t me. Yes, I’ll be slumming it with Trillian for a short while, but I’ll certainly be back once you are. Thank goodness I came here and now I know where to go in the future (rather than uninstalling/reinstalling rebooting x3). Prompt communication = you just saved yourself a customer.

Hee.. this came at a bad time for me. Was messing around with some of the vista network settings to change away from the defaults and speed things up. Then i rebooted and couldnt connect >..>; guess i should have checked here first. Ah well.

Thanks for the update! I actually lost power at about the same time as you guys, oddly enough, and I thought maybe Digsby had been broken somehow by the sudden outage.

lol @ Steve
Well, for alpha testers like myself, took a min or two on startup before switching to local mode. But it is working great. In fact, I did not even realize it was implemented already.
Anthony Baldarelli Said,

I did not experience any downtime, so either I lucked out and logged in before you guys went down, or, as another poster said, the new “local mode” worked for me. Per chance is there anyway to see if “local mode” was used in this case?

i’m connecting to digsby now and from there to msn, fb and twitter. google talk connection is giving me an auth error even though the same auth combo is connecting to gmail via digsby. curious.

As an alpha tester i also need to give a hattip to the offline caching. when it’s released in a full build people will love it.. i didn’t even know something was wrong until i saw this blog post .. that is a testimony….

Thanks for the update. Other services ignore the fact that their blog can tell us about outages, but Digsby has come through yet again! We’re not back up here in Utah, but thanks for letting us know what’s going on.

Local mode worked great for me, THANKS!
A bit of advice though… You really need to have your servers running in a datacenter that has diesel generators. You have WAY too many power outages.
John Said,

There is a reason why important systems in data centers don’t run on “street power”.
