Build 21 – Old Enough to Drink!

We just pushed an update (Build 21, r13042 r13047) that fixes a few very critical bugs and introduces numerous enhancements. As always, you can read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. Most notably:

  • Added a preference that lets you hide the buddy list from the taskbar – there were a lot of requests for this one! It is always hidden from the taskbar if docked
  • Added a preference that lets you change the padding above and below a buddy – the default was changed from 4 to 2 so buddies are closer together
  • Added support for legacy SSL connections for Jabber accounts
  • Fixed a major bug that caused the diagnostic log size to spiral out of control. We also added a safety net into the logging system to prevent this from happening even if other unknown bugs trigger it in the future
  • Attempted to fix a bug which caused Yahoo to disconnect every few minutes for some people – please let us know if this still happens or if it is fixed
  • Found and fixed another one of the bugs which causes CPU usage to spike to 100% – finding the rest of these is still a top priority

The bugs list is starting to get shorter so we will begin to focus on performance optimization and a few highly requested features for the next few builds. Please keep the feature suggestions coming by emailing us at features@digsby.com – this way we can look at the volume of requests for each particular feature and prioritize our time.

After a updation my digsby got corrupted.. i reinstalled it.. but itz stillnot working:(
  • @Jason - it seems like a significant enough portion of users have requested this for us to add it in the future.
  • Jason
Can you give a status update on your willingness to include the option for new ims to be displayed in the system trey instead of the task bar?
  • Ooooh thank you for the padding...the extra whitespace was driving me insane.

Kudos to actually listening to your users and being so active in the development of digsby. I have abandoned pidgin altogether, and am just waiting for an OSX version so I can switch from AdiumX
  • @Bradley - we will look into this right away
  • Bradley
Think this might have been introduced in this release as I never noticed it before, but if the buddy list is open and behind other windows and you get a popup notification, it brings the buddy list on top of all other windows.
  • Nolan
I have a feature request that I haven't seen anyone mention yet. The ability to see who is on your xbox live friends list when they are online or not, and gamer info about them like you get when you are logged into microsofts xbox live website.
  • Ben
wow, i'd say you have a great team! keep it up. this client is a keeper!!!
  • Matt
I had the same problem as Kyanges, reinstalled, and now it's solved for me too. Loads much faster and the update is working now!
  • Greg Mency
haha nice title. i woulda named it...Old enough...to party.
  • Kyanges
I'm not sure what the problem was, but I guess my Digsby install was corrupted somehow.

After downloading the new update, I searched for the padding, and hide from taskbar option in the buddy list page on the options window, but neither option was there.

The update appeared to have installed without any problems, so I wasn't sure what was wrong. After the last few updates, Digsby was also taking longer and longer to start. The Log in panel would appear, hang there for a moment, and then then the buddy list would appear like it should.

After a few restarts, I decided to try reinstalling Digsby completely. This appears to have solved all my problems. Digsby starts up considerably faster, and the new options have also appears where they should.

Haha, so with that, I can finally say, great updates, and keep up the stellar work. XD .

Just wanted to say thanks, and keep the goodness coming!
  • @Matt - send an email to bugs@digsby.com and we will help you out
  • ajskhan
    works now :)
  • Matt
My build, even after downloading the new update and restarting, doesn't seem to want to update.
  • Tavil
AIM/ICQ service is back up for me at least.
Dunno if its come back up for everyone else.
  • Thanks so much for a great product. Truly great Gmail/Facebook/Aim integration, and great updates/enhancements each week.
  • tom
    ICQ's online again
  • Tom
It appears that aim is down. Ive had the same issue all day and there are numerous people complaining on the aim message boards that have the same issue. I have to say I just installed digsby and this application is amazing. I was a trillian user then moved over to Miranda but this has now replaced both of them.
  • Tavil
Yea AIM and ICQ wont connect for me ether.
But it seems to be a problem with the AOL/ICQ servers not Digsby. Cause the official clients wont connect ether.

I'm sure they'll be back up soon.
  • essenceoftao
I did the restart. I'm glad you told me about AOL and ICQ, they always make me think it's my fault.
  • @AJ

Aliases for accounts should be coming soon =)
  • sam
I'm having problems w both AIM and ICQ since the update.
  • tom
I was stuck at 12611, it doesn't want to update, so I'm re-downloading now
  • AJ
(I really feel like a jerk now for tripple posting, so sorry!)

I also cannot connect to aim. I'd be happy to provide a tcpdump to the devs if needed.
  • AJ
Sorry for the double post, but I just realized the same goes for the myspace & facebook accounts.
  • AJ
Thanks for the update! I just started using Digsby about a week ago, coming from years of gaim/pidgin use, and trillian before that. So far, very impressed with digsby.

    One request!

I love the reduced buddy list padding, but could you add an 'alias' feature for the email addresses? They are by far the longest component of my buddy list, and I like to keep my list window nice and slim.

e.g., for myemail@hotmail.com, be able to just name that account 'hotmail'
  • @tom - window options in the "Buddy List" part of preferences. Make sure you have r13042 by clicking Help > About Digsby. If you have anything older then you need to restart digsby.
  • tom
call me stupid, but i don't find the preference to hide the buddy list from the taskbar
  • @ajskhan - same results here. It looks like a bug on their servers as far as we can tell but we are investigating on our end as well.
  • ajskhan
@ steve. Submitted, but I also tried it on my Trillian and meebo and its not goin through either...
  • My AIM is stuck on auth., too.
  • andy
thanx for this i have download digsby and its very good
  • Steve Roberts
    AIM authenticates okay here.
  • just a question ... do you have to redownload the progrogram to get the new updates?
  • A more memorable URL for that is http://wishlist.digsbies.org
  • Z
Was the bug ever fixed that wipes out MSN contacts? I tried Digsby a while ago and tried to move MSN contacts into subgroups - next thing I know they disappeared from my list. Had to spend a lot of time re-adding people.
  • Will
I also cannot connect to AIM!
  • @Andrei - there is one on the community run fan site which we keep an eye on

    http://digsbies.org/site/view/rfe
  • Andrei
You should put up a feature voting system online for the feature requests. Once its up, that should lower your workload in terms of processing the email requests, and make people aware of existing requests so they would not suggest the same things
  • @ajskhan - use Help > Send Bug Report to submit a diagnostic log.
  • ajskhan
Chatroom support and audio/video support would be great.

My AIM is stuck at authenticating. But it doesn't go through!
  • @Steve - authenticating fine here
  • Steve
after the update. AIM wont authenticate, is anyone else having this problem?
  • Tom
Yay for the padding enhancement! It's the small things that count. I love you guys.
  • Thanks for fixing the last few bugs which were really bugging me! The product is excellent now, and has been issue free the last 1-2 weeks.
