Build 50 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 50, r20937) which introduces new bug fixes and enhancements. As always, you can read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. The list is a bit shorter than usual because we have been working on a few large projects, which are not quite ready for release. Notable changes include:

  • Fixed several major issues with the To/From dropdowns in the IM window
  • Changed the default port for AIM and ICQ to 443 since it is more likely to succeed in many firewall situations
  • Fixed Hotmail message actions such as Delete and Mark as Read, which broke due to a protocol change

If you would like to become an alpha tester and get new releases before everyone else, download this file and place it in the main program folder. Keep in mind that as an alpha tester you may get a release with a few bugs every now and then.  We are looking for people who are proactive in reporting these issues so we can fix them before builds go out to all users.

As always, thank you for all the feedback and enjoy the new build. If you experience any bugs please email us at bugs@digsby.com or use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log. If you have any suggestions, please email us at features@digsby.com.

I am still having a problem where AIM gets stuck at “connecting” after Digsby starts. But, if I cancel and then try to reconnect manually, it works for some reason.

Noticing the change to the popup notifications, wondering if there can be an X button to close them sometimes. Or if there could be a feature right within the taskbar icon that you can toggle the popup notifications on/off for certain situations like sitting in class.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE – Add Yammer support, it would be even more excellent.

More control over sound assignment would be nice too.

Thanks for a great bit of software!!

@Revanth: Submit a bug report after AIM is stuck for a few minutes. As for popups, right clicking or middle clicking closes them. They still fade out automatically.

Can we get a “Restart Digsby” menu item in the Digsby menu?

Digsby is still great and getting better. The only feature that I can’t stress enough and that keeps me from using it over all other programs is the lack of an individually assigned ‘alert’ system, so a box pops up and a noise is sounded when a friend you really want to talk to signs on. I don’t want to get spammed by boxes when 20 people I don’t feel like talking to sign on, so individual alerts make it so I can do other things without having to check my buddy list every 20 seconds. I’m sure you can add it, and make sure it can be made permanently bound to the screen name. THANKS DIGSBY YOU CUTE LITTLE GREEN GUY.

For pop up boxes, is there any way they could be set to only reach a certain height on the screen when they stack???
Also, I agree about the whole buddy alert thing.

    Thanks Digsby people.

@MARK: It is something we have definitely considered and may add in the future.

    @Flame: It should be fixed

@Bob: Choosing “Sign Off” in the main menu restarts Digsby

Can you add a “sign out” from the Digsby icon in the system tray on a right click?

Can you add sign in minimized to system tray?

    Love the program!

Is it just me or is this alpha build faster?

Is it just me or is the sky prettier after downloading this alpha build? ;)

@revanth: Good news, there is a feature in the minimized right-click menu for situations like sitting in class. It’s the first one on the bottom of the menu ;) You can also get to it at the bottom of the Digsby menu when opened.

It does work, lol I forgot that the location I was getting my Internet connection from at that moment blocked myspace. It does work at other locations

I agree with the individual alert thing. That is one of the few things I miss about the ACTUAL AIM client. I had quite a few people on individual alert.

Also, I noticed that I get a TON of pop-up things from Facebook. Is there a way that you could narrow this down a little? Like make it optional to receive wall posts, status updates, friend requests, event invites, etc. That way I don’t get a pop-up every time any of my Facebook friends gets a new wall post (which I have noticed recently is A LOT!) but I could still know when someone changes their status. I don’t know what that would entail for you guys but just a suggestion.

I know you guys are working hard to try to fulfill everyone’s requests, and I really appreciate all of the work you have done for us. Keep up the good work!

This is just random… is there any chance we can get a ballpark date for a linux alpha?

Using a non-standard port for AIM and ICQ is a bad decision all around. To accomplish what you want, a more seamless and failsafe way to handle problems with connections to AIM/ICQ, you should implement a backup or secondary port setting that defaults to 443 but -only- after 5190 fails. A simple popup explaining what has happened and suggesting that he or she might want to change the default port to 443 would be an appropriate way to let the user decide how to handle this for themselves.

I give up, I’m removing Digsby from my RSS.. Taking too long to get IRC and the other features.. I guess I’ll stick with Pidgin.

@J. Adam: The new AIM client connects on 443 as the default port.

Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for the great program, been using for about a year now, 343 days to be exact, and am still loving it. This most recent alpha fixed my hotmail/live mail problem and everything else is working smoothly.

Is there a way they can make digsby so that each PC digsby is run on different PC’s can have different window preferences?

the reason I’m requesting this, is because my laptop runs on a 1024×768 display resolution, while my PC runs on a 1600×1050 resolution. The LCD’s native display, and ya know on LCD’s you can’t really change the monitors native display, I mean you can but not without loosing quality, so is there a way that some of those window size preferences can be saved on individual computers?

because yeah I can change it on one computer, but then it’ll change it on all of ‘em, which is kinda a drag, ya know?

  33. Digsby Said,

    March 18, 2009 @ 8:45 am

@bubazoo: The window size/location/docking is saved locally. That is one of the preferences we don’t synchronize between machines.
