Build 79 – Summer Luvin’
To kick off the summer, we just pushed out Build 79 (r27405 r27465) to all users which includes new features, bug fixes and a few key enhancements. As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:
- Spell Check: We expanded spell check to support over 50 languages instead of just English. The next phase of this project will include translating the actual Digsby client into different languages.
- Facebook Chat: Our Facebook Chat implementation will now connect to a new set of Facebook XMPP servers that should be much more stable than the HTTP servers we currently connect to. These servers also report your entire buddy list instead of just online buddies.
- Facebook Login: We switched Facebook Newsfeed and Facebook Chat login over to OAuth 2.0, which is a much more streamlined method for requesting permissions that Facebook announced at their last F8 conference.
- Twitter Achievements: We added achievements to Twitter (previously only on Facebook and MySpace). You will be asked if you would like to enable or disable this functionality and you can turn it on/off by editing your Twitter account in Preferences.
- Protocol Fixes: We fixed a major bug in Google Talk that caused it to constantly disconnect if you have an iTeleport user on your buddy list. We also fixed a major bug that caused Yahoo Mail to fail to connect for some users due to a protocol change on their end.
We are currently wrapping up group chat support for all protocols and will have that pushed out to Alpha testers shortly. We will also begin testing a new option in the installer soon which allows you to install a portable version of Digsby to a USB stick so you can always have your favorite green buddy by your side.
If you run into any bugs please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com. We’ll keep pushing to make Digsby even better and greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word!
Update 1 (6/16/2010 11:00am EST): We just pushed out a small patch to ALPHA testers (build 27449) which fixes a couple protocol issues. It ignores erroneous errors from the Twitter servers so you should see less “failed to connect” messages and it also adds log statements to help us hunt down a login issue with Facebook Chat.
Update 2 (6/17/2010 11:30am EST): Another patch just went out to ALPHA testers (build 27465) with a few more protocol fixes. Incoming IMs from AIM buddies using meebo will no longer show HTML. Facebook Chat will no longer request buddy icons and status updates excessively. There was also a fix for Facebook chat which caused it to fail to connect for a tiny portion of users.
Update 3 (6/17/2010 4:00pm EST): We just pushed out the above two patches to all users bringing the public release number for this build to r27465. Changes include:
- Ignore erroneous errors from Twitter servers that were causing disconnects
- Fixed a bug that caused Facebook to fail to connect for a small portion of users behind firewalls
- Fixed a bug that caused incoming IMs from AIM buddies using meebo to show HTML
- Fixed a bug that caused Facebook Chat to request buddy icons and status updates excessively
