Build 78 – Get Your Social On!

We just pushed a update (Build 78, r27087 r27150 r27209 r27225) which primarily includes fixes for bugs introduced in the last major release along with a fix for a protocol change in Twitter that took place yesterday.  As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Fixed a bug that caused Twitter login to fail due to protocol changes
  • Fixed a bug that caused newly added MySpace accounts to fail to log in

If you run into any bugs please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.  We’ll keep pushing to make Digsby even better and greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word!

Update 1 (4/9/2010): We just pushed out a small patch which includes fixes for a few protocol changes.  This brings the new release number to 27150:

  • Setting status on Facebook now sets your status again instead of just posting a story to your wall
  • Fixed a bug that caused Facebook login to fail with a cross-domain error for Facebook
  • Fixed a bug that caused Yahoo file transfer requests to not show when trying to send a file

Update 2 (4/16/2010): We just pushed a small patch to ALPHA testers which fixes a few more protocol changes.  Once we know that this release is stable, it will go out to all users.  The release number is 27186.

  • Fixed a bug that caused Facebook login to fail with an authentication error for some users
  • Fixed a bug that caused comments to show incorrectly for MySpace

Update 3 (4/21/2010): We just pushed another small patch to ALPHA testers which fixes one more protocol change with Facebook login that we’ve been seeing some bug reports about.  The release number is 27193.  If you are an alpha tester, please submit a bug report if you still get “Connection Failed” issues with Facebook after getting the update.

Update 4 (4/21/2010): A big thank you to our wonderful alpha testers.  The fixes introduced a small new bug with Facebook login that is now fixed in 27195.  Let us know if you still experience issues so we can get this out to all users if it’s solid.

Update 5 (4/22/2010): It seems that every social network we support decided to change their protocol this week.  We just pushed out a small patch to ALPHA testers fixing a bug that caused status updates on LinkedIn to not get set.  Please let us know if any new bugs were introduced so we can get these fixes out to all users.  The new release number is 27209.

Update 6 (4/23/2010): We just pushed 27209 to all users, which incorporates all of the above protocol fixes.

Update 7 (5/15/2010): We just pushed out a small patch (r27225) which fixes a login issue with Hotmail due to a protocol change.

Is there a problem with Facebook chat? Nothing happens when people IM me, and when I try to IM them, it says "you are not permitted to do that."
  • Digsby
That message is most likely a temporary issue with their servers.
  • AN360VN
    Dear admins,
When will DIGSBY have application for mobile? DIGSBY is usefull, I like it.
  • Yeah, I haven't been able to connect to my Facebook chat through Digsby in weeks. I have it set up on Jabber, which worked in the last release version, but also tried using the native facebook IM account. Both say 'Authentication Error', even though there isn't any (checked and rechecked). Clearly a problem with Digsby... shame.
  • Digsby
Nothing changed about the jabber protocol so I'm not sure what that could be.
  • Digsbyj is the most complete menu for the chat, because at the same time you can to control yahoo, gtalk, msn .....
  • Kurt
Thanks, I knew how to change them, but it would be cool if Digsby knew which pack to use based on the screen name I'm sending from
  • Kurt
Is there anyway to make Digsby use the correct emoticons for an account? So if I'm using AIM it uses AIM emoticons or if I'm using MSN it uses MSN emoticons, etc? Just curious, that would be an awesome feature.
  • Digsby
You can choose what emoticon pack you want to see in Preferences > Conversations but there is no way to make a smiley like :) appear differently depending on what IM service it came in over. Keep in mind that the emoticon seen on the other end is dependent on what IM client they are using.
  • Fernando
    Facebook keep disconecting...
  • Andy
This bug is still happening for me:
    http://forum.digsby.com/viewto...

As fun as it would be to edit msconfig, wanna fix it? Pretty nasty every time I reboot :(
  • zzbomb
Soo like when do we get IRC support? It's the one feature keeping me from using Digsby exclusively.
  • TomeOne
Weird issue: even though I have my MSN privacy set to only allow those on my contact list to message me, I still get random spammy/scammy messages from people not on my contact list.
  • itsmeagain
I've been using Digsby since Spring 2008, and it has gotten so much better - thanks. But you need to still implement a Windows Media Player "Listening to..." feature, given that many of us use that program as opposed to iTunes and Winamp on Windows 7...
  • UncleDomino
Yeah, support for WMP and Foobar2000 would be pretty awesome if possible.
  • This is great. Thanks to the dev team. I'm about ready to switch from Pidgin to Digsby, except for one little item that is very important for me.

It is not displaying my AIM buddy comments. I have too many contacts on my buddylist to keep track of all of them.

If that was fixed, then I'm definitely trading up.
  • Tim
Now that we have per-character formatting, will we ever get the next basic feature, individual buddy alerts?
By no means do I intend to sound ungrateful, but this has been lacking for far too long...
  • Something is not working like it should
  • dakingof
When I move the gmail Icon the myspace icon follows to the right of it. When I move the myspace Icon the gmail Icon moves to the right of that. So they never separate unless I move all others around and leave those untouched.

    win7 x64
  • Digsby
The windows icon tray can be finicky when an app creates multiple icons.
  • dakingof
Okay understandable, just thought it might be something to look into, as it always happens with those 2 icons. It's really not a big deal, just a minor annoyance :-)
  • erlwinds
It would be a good idea to show whether user is active or not in the corresponding tab of the chat window, i.e. as it is done in gtalk.

    P.S. Digsby rocks.
  • Robert
The update downloaded, but Digsby wouldn't load so I uninstalled and reinstalled it and the same thing happens. Now what?
  • Digsby
We're not getting other reports like this - try reinstalling using the latest installer currently on the website.
  • Jeff
    Thanks for another update guys!

Back when you did the last major release to the public on April 1, you said a truly portable version was coming VERY soon.

What is the status of that? I didn't know if "VERY soon" was a couple of weeks, a month or so, or what.
  • Digsby
It's ready but just needs to be slated for release. We will do an alpha test of it shortly.
  • Jeff
Sounds good. I'm patiently waiting, but I'll be testing the alpha the minute it is released.
  • DVins
You may have fixed the status bug but now when I click on my LinkedIn icon I see updates from Facebook and not LinkedIn.
  • Digsby
Submit a bug report with screenshot of this happening.
  • florian
Thanks for this great piece of software!
But will you ever improve the log viewer? I'm really missing the ability to search through the whole (!) conversation of a contact, not only limited to a specific day ... right now you have to do the search for every single day if you don't know the exact date :(
  • Chris
I have not had any problems with the latest Alpha, but my girlfriend has been having trouble connecting to AIM. It logs in, then logs right off, continues to attempt to log in, but then finally gives her the "You are trying to log in too many times" error (I know, from the AIM server). We checked the firewall settings to no avail. Debating taking her to Alpha to see if that fixes the problem.
  • Digsby
Try connecting to AIM on some other ports like 80, 443, and 5190.
  • Nick
Can you at least give a time line, even if its an year from now, when you think you will be able to implement buddy pounce. Please!! Thanks.
  • Ritin
It would at least give us an idea not to bother you before then. Please, just a time line. I'm sure you guys could do that. Although, I know its actually a child's play for you people to implement the actual feature itself, but you can do the easier task of giving us the timeline for it first.
Although it looks like you're hard at work for the Mac/Linux version. Good luck.
  • Nick
    Buddy pounce please!!! Please.
  • jollyjok3r
    WTF!!!!!!!! I can't send offline messages . . .. . fix that please
  • seanet
    didnt mean to like,
Might help if you list the protocol. aldso did u submit a bug report if it is a prototcal hat handles offline messages generaly in digsby?
  • Facebook is dead completely... Connection Lost alllllll the time...!?
  • Digsby
We've gotten numerous reports of this. It seems like a server issue on their end. Let us know if it does not resolve itself.
  • starfx6464
I'm running the alpha (27186) and still have Facebook problems - it now just says the connection is lost.
  • Digsby
We've gotten numerous reports of this. It seems like a server issue on their end. Let us know if it does not resolve itself.
  • Richard
Hello, great application but I've found a bug and have a suggestion.

The bug: On conversations in Facebook, all the messages are being prefixed with (what looks like) the ID number of the person. Shouldn't it be the date and time instead? It might affect other protocols, i've not checked.

The suggestion: when downloading an update, don't tell us how much has been downloaded but a percentage complete. It's a lot more useful as a number whizzing up doesn't really tell you much.
  • Henning
Would like to know what is the latest development on release 27186. Been stuck with the facebook authentication error for a while now and tried deleting the login cookie, that didn't fix it unfortunately.

It's a bit of a pain to have to have a FB window open on top of digsby and keep checking there if somebody sent something.
  • Digsby
We'll push it to all users this week.
  • UzZzeN
And where is the language file to Russify program
  • Guest
Seems to have fixed the issues
  • Ben
I am having issues on the MySpace IM side of things. Only a certain portion of my friends appear in my buddy list, whether I choose to "view offline contacts" or not. It's not a problem with my account, as they all show up in Explorer. Is there something I'm doing wrong?
  • Radu
    1. Changing status doesn't work ( Yahoo! ) !!!

    2. Can't hide tray icons ( gmail, yahoo etc.) (win7). I want to see digsby tray icon , but gmail, yahoomail etc. hidden (not disabled!!! - i know that there is an option in preferences/where to show, just hidden)

    3. I want digsby to show up wint only one click from tray icon...

    4. Maybe, an option, when new mail arrives, a tray icon would appear... ( like Y!M)

    5. Better support for Yahoo! :(

Thanks. Nice project and wish you all the luck.
  • Re: #2 in "Tools > Preferences > Accounts" do you have your email accounts/social networks set to "Show in Contact List"?
  • Radu
    you don't understand...
I want to see them in taskbar as tray icons.

The problem is I can hide the in taskbar.

    example: I have clock|volume|network|digsby tray icon|Y!M,Gmail etc tray icon.|win7 Action center|etc.

I want to see only clock|...|digsby| and when i press "show hidden icons" , win7 would show me in a tab |Action center|Y!|Gmail|etc.|

The bug is that I simply can't move them in win7 tab, without moving digsby tray icon too.
  • Bo
You don't have to bother working on Linux version anymore. While you guys waited for 2 years saying that it is "under development", dozens of other applications perfected themselves to the point that I am not even going to consider using Digsby. Pity, such a potential.
  • Bernmeister
    What applications?
  • Len
I would be happy to see Skype friends in this app as well. Then this becomes a complete app replacing Yahoo messenger, Gtalk and Skype and enabling to do IM, chats and video chatting in a single app.
Can we expect an Iphone app as well???
  • When you plan to add XMPP MUC?
  • Digsby
    Working on adding it now.
  • You sad it about two month ago ;)))
  • zerofactions
It seems that AIM wont connect for me after this update. It logs in for a second then disconnects.
  • Digsby
It may be a temporary issue with their servers - let us know if it does not resolve itself.
  • Hakimy
how about doing something about MSN protocol? I can't chat with my friends on MSN if I'm invisible and I have been told long time ago that digsby will do something about it.so when will digsby actually do something about it? :P
  • That has nothing to do with Digsby. It's the way MSN/WLM is set up. You can't send or receive messages while invisible on the native WLM application either.

What I would like to see is the ability to set different statuses for different protocols. Likewise with display pictures.
  • I am a Linux user and I would love to have Digsby in Linux. Guys please make it fast. Is there a tentative date or something regarding the Linux version of Digsby? I will be the first one to blog about you once you release the linux version, I assure you that. :-)
  • Frankenbike
I don't want to seem ungrateful for the continuing support we get, but is there any way I can disable push updating when I log in? Sometimes I use a phone modem, and I get charged per megabyte used AND it's super slow, and would rather wait until I'm home for an update. Thanks.
  • Digsby
I completely understand your point of view. Unfortunately, most users are not as technically savvy as you are. The protocols we support are constantly changing so we use auto-update to push fixes for these changes. If auto-updates were optional or off then most people wouldn't figure out that there was a fix already pushed out for whatever broke and we would get thousands of bug reports needlessly for something we already fixed. In the future, we will make the auto-update process much more user friendly in that it will download updates after Digsby logs in and just apply them next time you restart. That will fix most of what is wrong with the auto-update process since right now you need to wait for it to happen before you can log in.
  • Frankenbike
How about this? Since my connection is unpredictable as to whether it will be 3G or 1G, how about being polite about updates? Like "A new version of Digsby is available, update now? Otherwise don't complain until you do." It's really that simple.

With forced push-updates, you are seizing control of my computer and refusing to let go. I have to open Task Manager, kill Digsby-app.exe, and go to regular G-Chat or whatever at that point. Not cool. Please, please, make it a delay-able option.

At home I don't care. I have a 20 meg down, 15 up fiber optic connection. When I'm in the field, it depends on what kind of signal I get on my cell modem.
  • Is Digsby ever going to add MPOP for Live Messenger? My wife and I share an account between two computers and it sucks not being able to be logged on with both computers at the same time, so I'm stuck with Windows Live Messenger along with Digsby until it's added. (insert sad face here)
  • Digsby
It is on the to do list in a lower priority bin so we will add it in the future.
  • the cross-domain login bug for digsby achievements seems to be fixed now. keep up the great work!
  • See Furst
I have three letters for you:

    O
    T
    R

Is digsby ever going to support Off The Record cryptology?
  • Digsby
It is on a lower priority to do list so we will likely add it at some point in the future.
  • why the hell such good software like this has bad option i dont like when always it change my gtalk status to - check out http://digsby.com/gtalk
  • Digsby
Top option in Preferences > Status
  • prowse
What we really want to see is Droid/iPhone-Pad/Web clients of Digsby.
  • Will you be adding the multi-chat functionality that MSN has? I.e. where I can grab 3 or more people and pull them into a chat?
  • Digsby
    Working on that now :)
  • GuyWhoChangesHisStatusALot
Stop changing our status messages to digsby ads! gchat status advertising makes me want to not use your product.
  • Digsby
When you got the update for Digsby, the announcement which came up linked to a blog post that prominently described the status tagging feature - http://j.mp/bRg5Dt

Upon logging in, you were also shown a popup that clearly explains the feature and gives instructions on how to disable it. The popup is sticky and it does not go away until you acknowledge it by clicking the close button. Here is a screenshot - http://imgur.com/I8oyN

Any chance you clicked close without reading it?
  • I hoping that one day, Digsby will become a proper twitter client. Right now, it gets very confusing to find tweets and organize things the way I want them. There also really needs to be some way of adjusting the pop-up notifications and set the amount of time they stay on the screen. It really drives my crazy.
  • seanet
http://forum.digsby.com/viewto... has a link that might be of some help for the popup stuff
  • Digsby
How should we change Twitter in Digsby? We'd love the feedback! Email bugs@digsby.com
  • Pulling in twitter searches would be nice, more than 100 msg's visible at a time without just leaving the window open forever, support for lists, and supporting the newer native retweet method.
  • sluggervillan
In winXP (On 2 PC's & Fresh Install on each) Digsby starts for 2 - 4 seconds then closes.
  • Andrei
No file transfer to yahoo user, when a fix ?
  • Digsby
Working on it now for a fix in the next release.
  • Vel
Hey guys, something that should be added is a contact manager. If one of my contacts changes their screenname, there's no option to edit their screen name to the new one. I have to delete the old contact, add the new screen name, then rename the new screen name to the old alias. It just seems a little unintuitive to me as on OS X I'm used to Adium where this is editable.
  • Arslan
    well done...
  • rosesman
    dear digsby,
I have two account FB, and when I first used... I can log in both of them separately (I forgot the version), let say A and B. both have different friends and different status and also different notifications. A will display only A, the same with B.
On new update, I still can log in both account..... but only displaying one notification for one account for both account. A and B only display notification from A. but in the status, i have both logged separately (A and B).
Could you suggest the recommendation to fix it?
  • Digsby
Yup - it was probably a cookie issue with the IE login window so you got logged in to the same account twice. Remove the one that has the wrong newsfeed, restart Digsby, and add it back. Make sure you are logging in to the correct Facebook account in the log window that comes up.
  • Thanks for the fix.

    Suggestion / IMO :

    1. It is now time to get different views / modes in digsby . i.e. compact mode , normal mode , detail mode , chat mode.

    2. There should be configuration where user can specify weather the emails , twitter update / etc. popup (flyer) should be seen on mouse hover or click. and / or there should be way to pin the flyer.

    3. Keyboard navigation for navigating between email accounts and also support to scroll the flyer through keyboard

    4. In digsby when after login it connects the IMs where auto connect is checked. I feel there can be a checkbox / or a way where we can say just login to digsby in manual mode , i will select then which IM to connet . in otherword way to overrule the auto connect.

Thanks for providing enough space to share. :)

    Digsby rocks.

  • Digsby
Thanks for the great feedback! Regarding #4, if you hold shift during login until the buddy list comes up it will short-circuit the auto-login of IM accounts.
  • shinobivn
Cool, and I'm waiting for the multi-buddies chat feature...
  • Mayur
When are you going to add Google Talk file transfer?
  • Digsby
There are two ways to do file transfers over Gtalk. One is the Jabber way and one is the Jingle way. Every IM client that supports Google Talk besides Google Talk itself does the Jabber way (including Digsby). The Google Talk client does Jingle, which we will implement in the future. Also, those using Google Talk in Gmail can't do file transfers at all.
  • Me
I know that it doesn't fit here but i wanna tell anyway: when digsby has Skype support, more wlm features (nudge, what's new etc.) and full mail client,i will download it (again)!
  • Digsby
    Thanks for the feedback!
  • Jedosaurus
I am a new user (>1 week) and so far I really like your tool. It helps me stay connected with people. Are there any plans to add Skype IM? That would be really cool!
  • George
Is Facebook chat on Jabber by default now? If not, is it possible to turn that on? All I'd like to have is a more reliable Facebook chat ... I really hate Fb's chat service, it's about time they fix it ... I'm hoping Jabber will bring that.
  • adrianvlasa
you can add flickr on digsby ?
  • Digsby is a really good program and a lot to me like it more than it can control almost every chat.
  • spy008
Hey Digsby! Thanks for the update.

    Take care!!!
  • Amanda
my AIM will not load. i keep getting a message for running in local mode ... after saying "failed to connect" i have redownloaded the new release and rebooted several times .... it wont allow me to submit a bug report either. what gives?
