Build 15 - Bug Swatting

We just pushed an update (Build 15, r12495) that fixes the most critical issues reported thus far. As always, you can read the entire list of new features, bug fixes, and enhancements on our Change Log. Most notably:

  • Fixed a bug that caused CPU to spike to 100%
  • Fixes for sending and receiving IM’s on MSN Messenger (the last of them?)
  • Multiple fixes for international versions of Hotmail and Yahoo Mail
  • Facebook stuck in “Connecting…” bug is no more
  • Attempted to fix Yahoo IM accounts for partner ISPs
  • Fixes for Yahoo disconnecting for some users

If you still experience any of the bugs above please email us at bugs@digsby.com. We also added new print statements into the diagnostic logs that will help us fix the below issues. If you experience any of these, please use “Help” > “Submit Bug Report” to send us a diagnostic log and reference which one you are experiencing.

  • Any remaining issues with connecting or authenticating on Facebook
  • Any remaining email bugs connecting to an email account (especially IMAP/POP)
  • Partial buddy list showing up (some buddies missing)
  • Not being able to see your side of the conversation on Yahoo (unless this build fixed it, of course)

The primary focus for the next build will be to fix the above issues once we get some more logs. We will also put a lot of emphasis on fixing some of the smaller bugs now that major connectivity issues are out of the way. Enjoy!

Yay, you fixed the @sbcglobal.net bug I reported! I feel loved. Keep it up, Digsby, and be sure to look at Pidgin for new feature inspiration.

@Mike: Yes! Proxy is now solid in all our testing. Let us know if you gives you any trouble.

@Shawn: Just sent you an email to work through your issue. We fixed all issues we knew about.

@Qwert Man: Ironically, the folks at Adium had the same issue and also fixed it (http://www.adiumx.com/blog/)

Glad to see that bug reports are responded to quickly, and resolved quickly. Great work guys. It was less than a week ago that I reported my bug, and after multiple e-mails back and forth it has been resolved in this update. Great work.

Hey, I was wondering if you guys had any plans to add Windows Live email to the list of available emails. I like this feature about Digsby a lot, but my school uses Windows Live as their email provider and it doesn’t seem to want to work when I add it under the Hotmail option :P. Oh well, other than that, awesome program!

@All with MSN - we came across a few more issues the sending messages on MSN that have to do with status change. If you run into any bugs sending or receiving messages, submit a diagnostic log using “Help” > “Submit Bug Report”… hopefully this upcoming build will be the last round of fixes!

great job on the fast updates guys.

seems msn is hard to deal with hehe. maybe you could spy with the makers of trillian or something? ;-)

    keep up the great work!

That sort of comment makes me wonder… Is the DB team working with the developers of any other of the MP IM clients like Trillian, or even Adium, sharing notes, spreading tips, and generally cooperating? Or if they are not yet, are there any plans to? I know that the people working on Adium have worked with the people on Pidgen before…

My facebook account is still stuck at authenticating but in preferences I do not get the option to add a password for the account ??

Thank you Digsby for making my online communication so much better !

For a long time i prayed (to all the top Gods) for cross platform communication between IM networks… i.e GTalk to Yahoo or MSN etc (much like email). Can you imagine having to have a Yahoo email address to send an email to a Yahoo address, or a Gmail account to email Gmail users ?

I tried a few other apps including Trillian and Pidgin, but hated the interface and they lacked some features.

Hopefully we will see a Mac version soon… but Rome wasn’t built in a day right !

You do a fantastic job at resolving issues and assisting people with problems they are having. I will be pointing everyone i know at digsby.com. I wish you the very best in the future !

The update process could be smoother when running Disgby with restricted user account.

It should notify the user that it does not have the rights to write in Digsby directory and not forcefully download the updates when it in the end cannot perform the update.

It would be nice if every Digsby build push wouldn’t replace my sound settings…

You guys are doing awesome most of the time I will not even notice a problem and then when it updates it just works better

love the program will send in bug reports, if I find any that is

I’m still having Gmail connection issues. I wonder if it is a firewall issue. Then again I can use the option to view my emails that come from Gmail.

    Great update guys!

proxy? you mean people still use those? for what purpose besides hacking around on IRC?

bugs in MSN/Hotmail/Yahoo/gmail are like, never ending it seems like. I know trillian used to push out an update to one of the IM services every other month or so, apparently they do it on purpose to keep services like this out (shrugs) someone told me a while ago that the major players like that think IM services like trillian for instance, are used for sending spam, so every now and then they change their protocol structure, least thats what I was told.

This last update fixed the formatting with IM’s to AIM. Now the html tags are not sent as text anymore. Thanks a lot.
Do you have any plans to add Skype as well?

@Piali - emailing you now to resolve this!

  26. Loris Said,

Great build, most of the issues i had are not fixed !
Your application has a lot potential, but i’m not sure your team would be able to develop all the features digsby could potentially handle, what about adding an API and a plugin support ?

  27. Lorin Said,

    February 22, 2008 @ 9:02 am

Sweet. MSN works, twitter IM works. Digsby makes me happy.

    Thanks guys,

It appears the proxy issues are not yet resolved.

Where I work we use a socksproxy for all IM communication over port 1080. When I use this it fails to connect. I believe this is because digsby is attempting to make an http connection using that proxy to get updates, which will fail since I do not believe http traffic is allowable.

When I use our http proxy I can recieve updates and digsby starts correctly. It can log into my gmail account (NOT gtalk) however not my yahoo(chat or email), facebook, msn, aim or gtalk. All fail to connect and continuously attempt to retry.

What probably needs to happen is the seperation of proxy settings
one for digsby (which in my case would be set to my http proxy) and one for IM traffic (which in my case would be set to my socks proxy) in addition it would be nice to be able to specify different proxy settings on a PER ACCOUNT basis.

Does digsby support group chat/conferences? I love the client so far, but I need to be able to group chat for work. If digsby has this, I’m sold!

You guys, iam loving this thing.
I have told everyone i know about it….
It would be great thu…really great if you could add RSS feeds and view them exactly like we view emails..”mark them as read….etc”
If this feature is added …Iam leaving netvibes and pageflakes for good. ;)
