Build 76 – Fighting the Winter Blues!

We’re excited to introduce the first new release of 2010 and this one is jam packed with lots of goodness!  We just pushed an update to all users (Build 76, r26321 r26376) which includes a large number of features, bug fixes and enhancements.  As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • New Skins: The “Windows 7″ skin now has 8 new variants by @derekerdmann.  Access them via Preferences > Skins.
  • Windows 7 Support: Digsby takes advantage of jump lists for easy access to common tasks and top buddies (by log size).  We also use taskbar grouping to let you jump to conversations, see typing notifications and unread conversation counts.
  • Better Popups: Social networks will no longer show a separate popup for Alerts and the titles will no longer say “Facebook Newsfeed” with a generic Facebook icon.  Instead, you will see the friend’s picture and name with a small badge in the top right for each network. You can also comment/like Facebook items right from popups.
  • Trending News: We’ve partnered with the folks at OneRiot to bring the latest trending news stories to your social feeds.  You can enable/disable via Preferences > General & Profile.
  • Facebook Dislike: We’re amazed by how many people wanted to “Dislike” Facebook posts.  The Dislike Button Facebook page has over 3.2 million fans!  You asked for it, you got it.
  • MySpace Newsfeed: We’ve revamped the MySpace newsfeed to support their new APIs so it looks a lot more like the Facebook/Twitter feeds including the ability to comment on statuses.
  • MySpace Achievements: Back in September we introduced achievements for Facebook and the functionality is being ported over to MySpace.  You will be asked if you would like to enable or disable this functionality and you can turn it on/off by editing your MySpace account in Preferences.
  • Yahoo HTTP Support: Restrictive firewalls and proxies should no longer be an issue for Yahoo Messenger users.  Edit the account in preferences and set it to “Always use HTTP”

Up next is per-character formatting (so you can finally bold parts of an IM), group chat (long overdue), a greater focus on finishing up mac/linux releases (no ETA yet),  and a few other fun things we have up our sleeve for you.  Let us know what you think of this release in the comments.

If you run into any bugs please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.  We’ll keep pushing to make Digsby even better and greatly appreciate your help in spreading the word!

Update 1 (2/15/2010 5:30pm EST): We just pushed out a small patch fixing a few bugs in this release.  One of them caused auto-update to not work for some users and another caused Digsby to hit rate limits with the bit.ly service because of excessive URL shortening for trending news stories.  The new release number is 26376.  Enjoy!

  • Maelyn
A little behind on commenting here on this, but I absolutely /hate/ that "Trending News: We’ve partnered with the folks at OneRiot to bring the latest trending news stories to your social feeds. You can enable/disable via Preferences > General & Profile." is opt-out. I scrambled all over Digsby's preferences, Twitter's help site, and even a Google search before I had to come and search through Digsby release logs to find out why /unwanted/ trash from MTV, ESPN, and etc. was showing up in my timeline in Digsby.

Never-ever-ever make stuff that is enabled by default and opt-out. That's just highly suspicious behaviour. Now I have to wonder what else is turned on that wasn't originally in there and that I absolutely don't want on.
  • Digsby
There is nothing suspicious about making a feature which includes sponsored links that generate revenue to support Digsby development on by default. However, we've gotten some emails and bug reports from folks asking what they were because they didn't read the blog so the next release adds a question mark link into each story which brings up a dialog explaining what they are and how to turn them off.
  • egsigma
What would be really really nice is a skin that completely utilizes Windows Aero on Vista and 7 (or at least 7). Like, completely. Like, the whole buddy list window and the whole chatbox window (and might as well do the preferences and history windows). Or at least the backgrounds of these windows. That would look really nice and it would blend with the rest of the Windows UI. More applications should utilize the Aero interface--its pretty attractive.
  • I also would be happy to see a Linux version appear. Mac OS X would be nice, too, but as Linux is my own preferred OS, I'ma have to add my +1 to that request above all other requests I might have. An Ubuntu/Debian .deb package release would likely grab you the largest chunk of Linux users right off the bat, and should be fairly simple to convert to the other major package format (.rpm).
  • Hi,
i am great full to digsby.i want digsby for mobile version.
    Thanks
  • godot
How much longer is it going to take until we can customize the icons for contacts?
  • bytemybits
Hey Digs, since you've gotten a few comments about the 'spam' in the feeds I thought I'd let you know I like it. I'd even say I'd like a volume control so when my lame friends aren't entertaining me enough I can start seeing more trending posts. Nice feature, I hope it didn't distract you from the group chat though, grrr ;)
  • tired of using digsby for months now... i started to hate the inability to send files and sometimes to receive... going to try pidgin or whatever i can find...if i can send files with whatever i find me and my buddies are switching.
  • Digsby
Just submit a bug report using the Help menu after one fails so we can take a look at what's going wrong.
  • Hey, just wanted to suggest that for twitter you add an option to have a pop-up when you're mentioned? In the new twitter window you can set searches and groups to pop-up but not the mentions, and in the notifications in preferences you can choose either direct message or everything!
Keep up the amazing work :)
  • Wa
    Man screw Windows 7 support I want Linux support. ;___;
    Also plugin support..python preferably.
  • When? When? Well, when the same?
In this excellent IM client will:
    a) A good view message history and search the entire history.
    b) Support for x-status and additional features in the protocol ICQ.
  • Bartholemew
WHERE THE F*** IS THE MAC CLIENT? IT'S BEEN COMING SOON FOR A DECADE.
  • Really? Digsby's only been around for like 2 ish years... Still got 8 more to go for a Decade =P
  • carballo
    Thanks!
  • Jonathan
    Goodbye.

Digsby is nice for connecting to different networks and keeping up on social networking. I recognize Digsby is in the business of making money, but I was still surprised when I started to see spam in my facebook and twitter feeds when viewed through digsby.

We've all been waiting for multi-user chat for so long (years?), and have always been told it's a top priority. I'm not taking heart on the basis you saying it yet again.

But now that I'm getting spam interjected into my feeds, it's just wasting my time.

I haven't found another app yet to replace digsby, but I can't keep promoting the program. I'm checking out VoxOx, but it's having issues running on my XP machine (have yet to try my Vista or Win7 machines), and maybe back to the stability, multi-user chat, and spam-free pidgin.
  • Digsby
You know it's a feature you can turn off right? It's just the trending news topics of the day.
  • Jonathan
I didn't. Thanks for the tips.
  • Eddy
Great! But I'm still wating for the possibility to add my Hyves(IM)account, that would really(!) make Digsby usefull to me (and millions of others)! Is that ever going to happen?
  • Adewale
    its nice thou
  • armana
sip lah. Kita dukung terusss.. selama masih gratis. :D . thanks
  • armana
New Digsby is cool. I love it. Muantap tap tap .... :D | Thanks a lot . armana
  • andymcclung
Absolutely cannot wait for mac support. :)
  • Christian
Any plans to fix file transfer? This keeps me from uninstalling other clients.
  • Digsby
It should be working fine. Submit a bug report after one fails to let us know what is going wrong and how often.
  • The names Mc'O'BriarDonaldson
I still can't connec to Yahoo IM with a restrictive proxy. I've tried both port 5050 and Always use HTTP. I've turned off my firewall to eliminate any issues that may cause.
  • Digsby
If your firewall/proxy blocks non-HTTP traffic then this would work. If it actually blocks all Yahoo servers specifically then there is not much we can do.
  • More conversation themes from Digsbies, like Renkoo for example. I know it would be a whole lot better built in the app, instead of downloading the theme on all my computers.
  • bigxam
Oh, thx for nice update! Love it!
  • I've got to say that I'm pretty disappointed in the Dislike feature implementation, the commenting is alright, but I don't want to use a feature that just spams links to whatever software I'm using at my friends every time I go to use it. I like Digsby quite a bit, I give cpu time to the research project, I encourage friends to use Digsby for their im needs plenty on my own, as an already evangelical user I don't appreciate that level of intrusiveness nor do I feel like it is appropriate.
  • franktothemax
can't help but notice that myspace also has a instant messaging system an awful lot like facebook.. however when my myspace buddies are signed on, I can't shoot them a message on digsby the same way I would for facebook. example: facebook friend online show up on my buddy list. myspace buddies online do not show up on my buddy list. I don't know if it's even possible for myspace to work the same way, but I figured i'd at least say something. I know I can't be the only one thinking this.
  • Digsby
Just add your MySpaceIM account to Digsby and you can chat with all your friends.
  • mrl
    good
  • seriously cannot wait for the Linux version. i'll make the switch from pidgin the minute it comes out, provided it's not years from now :p

    Good work lads.
  • pravnj
great work guys. just love digsby. wondering when we will be seeing google buzz support?
  • can you tell me why i have "featured" tweets from people I'm not following? i'm pretty ticked off about this - if i wanted to follow huffington post or espn, i would.
  • nicoleloveseaster
    GREAT!!
  • Bosas
    Go Digsby, you rock!!!!!1
  • MastaBlasta
Digsby Please Fix The MSN downloading and uploading! When I receive a file from a friend it like start to download it good then it falls to 0 then it starts to download again and again over and over...please fix that and also ADD A NUDGE BUTTON :) other then that KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! P.S. also the AIM transfer files is a little slower when i send friends files or receive its pretty slow its faster with the normal AIM...THANKS!
  • eliavictor
    Hello Mr. Digsby,
Do you plan on having a Android app any time soon, I am dying to one from you :)
  • Bo
+1 for finishing a Linux release

Before I get my hopes up, I want to clarify something:

When you say group chat is coming, does this also mean I can send IM's to multiple people at the same time? There's a feature in Trillian (Pro) that would let you effectively "broadcast" a message to multiple people (like a group). This feature is very handy in office situations to quickly give a group of people an update and it's been the only real drawback I've had since I've started using Digsby. Is this also being implemented?
  • Nekaruk
Is there any way we can edit our myspace activity stream on digsby so that it only shows the friends (in myspace) we've subscribed to? I prefer the way it used to be. I don't like having the stream so cluttered w/ updates I really don't want from people except those I prefer. (and yea, I've deleted a good portion of friends to compromise w/ this update, but their status updates remain too)
  • bikerabhiav
I love Digsby... thank you for the updates, I recommend digsby wherever possible.
  • kennywinkleman
why in the world would you want to help a commercialized site like twitter anyway, what a pointless site that is, its awful, filled with arrogant dickhead scumbags and look-at-me news commentators who seem to think we give a damn about their lives and their jibber jabber nonsense..

haven't we all had just about enough of this corporate twitter shit jammed down our throats? are we blind here or what?

    -kenny
  • Brandito
i love using twitter for gathering up to the minute news. everyone i follow provides news posts, no jibber jabber from any of them :)

you sir might be using twitter incorrectly, just a though!
  • kennywinkleman
one more forced update and this shit software no longer remains on my pc.
  • Digsby
They updates are automatic because otherwise we would get thousands of bug reports saying "my XXXX won't log in" when a protocol changes and we push an update fixing it. Whenever you visit a website you see the latest version of that site. It's not frozen in time with no innovation.... Digsby will keep getting better.
  • Brandito
wow, someone doesn't understand the vast benefits of automatic updates :\

keep the automatic updates coming, LOVE THEM!
  • I don't think the problem is with Automatic Updates per se, but automatic updates that automatically opt you in for spam. It's why I'm in the process of uninstalling digsby right now.
  • richie
Hello - I just want to request an option to disable the Jumplist Aero Peek Tab preview. I do need 2 clicks to open the Chat Windows - I needed one with the old version. It's pretty ugly, too - because of these low quality pictures of most messengers :(
Maybe a preview of the chat lines would be better here? Or a "smaller" preview - but I guess you can't do that because it's dictated by Windows.

Would it be possible to open the tab preview while holding your mouse for ~500ms over Digsbys taskbar icon and directly open the chat windows when clicking only on it? If not - a feature to disable this preview at all would just be fine!

could I have a comment on that this time please?
  • Joshua
is the endless flashing out of focus windows and blinking on the taskbar ever going to be fixed? its about the most annoying thing about digsby, other than that its the best thing ever.
  • Drew
you have been talking about adding group chat for years. in my eyes it's really your only flaw. let's hope that this time when you say you're working on it for the next release, you really are.

a mobile app would be nice too =)
  • I can believe you opted in all your users to trending news. I don't want spam in my feed. If I wanted "Trending News" then I would follow someone who tweets about it. You need to explain to your users about new features and let them opt in our out. Please see my blog post for more info: http://www.waynezim.com/2010/02/digsby-encounters-the-dark-side-again/
  • rollz0r
Mouse cursor flickers while typing in an MSN conversation(and probably elsewhere). Fix this please!

  • OMG!!! What about Buzz? Days have passed! Buzz has like 12 users, too.
  • Vitaly
Please improve the way history is displayed in history:

    1) Merge history for merged contacts
    2) Improve the UI of history window
  • OMG!!! What about Linux? Months have passed!
  • Hakimy
when will digsby support msn protocol? I still can't chat with friends there while being invisible and I can't see their display pictures unlike yahoo.
  • JC
Please, support Linux. Digsby rocks but I can't run it on my Ubuntu setup and there is nothing that comes close to comparing.
  • Orlando
Good job!! Thanks for all of your hard work.
  • Great work. The first two things I'd like to see are:
    1. A new log format, preferably XML, 1 file per contact.
    2. A new, compact conversation theme that doesn't require so much screen space.
  • Blizz
    Love it!
  • Rudis
what are these "featured" news stories showing up in my facebook feed now? is it facebook injecting these, or digsby?
  • They are current relavent news items. Read #4 on this blog post for more information including instructions on how to disable them if you don't want them.
  • Diana
How can I disable the fake tweets you decided to start injecting into my feed with no distinguishing characteristics to tell me that it's spam?
  • They aren't spam messages, they are current relavent news items. Read #4 on this blog post, it includes instructions to disable them if you don't want them.
  • john
I would still really like to see the ability to do broadcast messages to a group of people. It is annoying to have to copy paste to send the same message to half a dozen people.
  • jmvance
Loving the Facebook Dislike! Now maybe they'll add it to the app....
  • No OSX support yet :(
  • Princess
Yay! My friends will be so jealous that I can dislike things!
  • L.G.
You guys rock. Keep up the excellent work. I can't wait for the Group Chat functionality :)
  • Joe
wow thanks guyes your doing a realy good job :) ..but i iam still havig problems wih icq filetransfere ..can you have a look at that ;) ?
  • The best way for us to handle these problems if by recreating the problem and submitting a bug report, it will send us a diagnostic log that will help us fix this issue.
  • You guys are pretty awesome, Digsby is by far the best IM/Social Client around. You need a mac and linux version asap! lol, I keep telling people about you, but many of them can't get it because of that. Everyone on windows switches over cuz it's freaking rocks :)
  • We're working hard to make sure everyone has a chance to try Digsby no matter what Operating System they are using. :)
  • Tom
When are you going to launch an iPhone app?
  • Google Buzz implementation would be awesome :D

Also, from where can I "advertise" the digsby achievements? I said no the first time it showed up because I thought that I'll have some other way to call on that feature. But I can't seem to find it.
  • As of right now the achievements work through the respected Facebook and MySpace social applications. Certain thresholds are set to unlock the necessary achievements, these then get posted automatically if the feature is enabled. You can always disable them from the account dialog.

Greetings! First of all: GREAT! I like your application very much! So far I'm happy with it and I know you're working to make it better so keep it up guys!

I have a question/suggestion, too. When using Windows 7 Aero pick works well from taskbar (although DP's are displayed instead of the chat windows but that was reported), however, I docked Digsby to the start menu and tried to use the jump list from there, but it doesn't work. It would be good to have Aero pick's jump list in both taskbar and start menu.

    Thanks =D
  • Any chance of integrating facebook pokes better? I know they're pretty trivial but that's exactly why I don't want to have to wait for my browser to start and the facebook homepage to load just to poke back... Otherwise great work guys! Bring on the Linux version...
  • Filippok
And what about ctrl+enter hotkey to send messages?
  • kansagous
I want a new software from you guys digsby for mobile. Can do that.
  • mahmoudsoliman
    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
  • please implement buzz and skype
  • representinglive
please, lots and lots of us are really waiting for the linux version......we've been waiting for years now.....please
  • Also, to add on.
If I hide a group from seeing me online on facebook.
It hides them in digsby too.
    Also needs a fix.
  • Having a problem where I choose to make my self offline on Facebook chat on the web, but online on Digsby (So I dont get duplicates, on the site and on digsby...doing this because FB chat is FAIL...
Anyways, before the update I was doing this and everything was fine.
Now, I digsby won't connect to Facebook CHAT connects to feeds just fine.
And when I close my Facebook window. and press connect in digsby, it works perfectly fine.
Might want to look into this.
    Thanks!
  • We'll be fully supporting Facebook's new XMPP interface for chat soon, which should eliminate problems like this.
  • Why did you guys change the behavior of the Jumplist on Windows 7 from what it was in the first alpha? The availability indicator & the online buddies feature was way better than what the jumplist is at present! Why would we want access to the offline buddies just because their log size is the largest?
  • Unfortunately once a buddy is PINNED in the jump list we can no longer update the icon for it. Because of this we had to remove the status icon, mainly to prevent confusion, as pinning an online buddy would make them always appear as online even if they are offline. This is a limitation in Windows 7's jumplist feature.
  • Removing them from the pinned friends is fine then, but why the
unpinned ones? In the first alpha, the jumplist displayed the friends
who were online. Why have you removed that section completely!
  • vitorgatti
Nice update! And good to know that Mac/Linux support is really coming to us! :D

When you release a version for Ubuntu, probably it will be the default messenger! At least for me :P

Now I have a suggestion if you wanna, maybe, make easy money... how about a paid service to host the user chat logs? So all preferences AND logs would be in your server! :)
  • dan
I think digsby is one of the best (and the most stable) multi-social client out now, but something that is a step lower than all its good features is the graphical interface. Keep it SIMPLE as it is now, but make it cooler: it would be perfect!!
  • Rares
    Hi there,

Maybe you guys get the time to tweak a few existing features:
    1. Still no way to send multi-line messages. CTRL-ENTER should add a new line to the current message instead of sending it.

    2. It is important that contacts can be organized in groups and sub-groups. I have a couple hundred contacts and I would like to organize them by domain and by company. Curently only one level of groups can be defined.

    3. When Digsby tries to send the message from an account which is disconnected it will try to send it from another connected account. This is not good, because generally accounts are kept separate and private. At least please provide an option to disable it, or display a message box when the message cannot be sent.

    4. Select multiple contacts at once for drag and dropping into another group. Alternatively, provide right click and Move To Group. I have 5 online accounts and I am trying to make order in groups, but I need to drag and drop user by user, each time scrolling to the destination.

    Thanks!
  • 1. Shift+Enter adds a new line to the current message.

    2. We support complex sorting, but it is still only 1 level, try playing with some of the advanced sorting methods, you may find one that works for you.

    3. We are aware of this issue and have a ticket already in place to fix this in the near future.

    4. We may add this in the future at some point.
  • 1. I would like to see in the conversation window option to transfer the line and sent message by double pressing ENTER.
    2. Jabber - chating in conference's room, browse transports jabber and use them
    3. International spelling
    4. Full support cyrilic (above, who then wrote about how the names of transferred files in Cyrillic spoil. So it is yet)
  • Guest
I think you should add a feature were we can chat using myspace im and skype as well this will make it loads easier for us on myspace that like to chat a lot
  • We already support MySpace IM, just look for it under the IM Accounts dropdown menu. As for Skype this is something we want just as much as you do.
  • I don't use taskbar grouping. Could you make an option to change back the old behavior when open chats had the partner's picture for icon on taskbar. (Now, every conversation has the digsby logo.)
For now, I set Vista compatibility for digsby to override this behaviour but it's not an elegant solution, also I don't know how long will you support Vista.

    Thanx.

Otherwise satisfied with Digsby. [Well actually, I'd really wish to see read tweets synchronization among separate computers, and hotkey support for status changing.]
  • respawned
I love this app. And it is almost perfect...

I am missing a Mac version and Skype support, then I would consider it perfect.

But I must say that a Mac version is the most critical, since I have not found another alternative of this quality for Mac.

Having that said Skype support would simply be awesome, so I can get rid of that app, and only rely on digsby.

    Great job you guys!
  • skyap
is there still no option to change the length of time a notification displays for?

also are there any future plans to integrate google buzz?
  • The support updates I like, the other updates are asinine. I honestly have no idea who wants the trending news. I guess myspace updates are nice, though who uses myspace these days? Ultimately, I guess I would prefer to see digsby working to add new features that have actual use instead of silly things like a dislike button and "achievements"
  • Unfortunately all of our updates can't please everyone, but all updates do please a good portion of users. We'll have something in store for everyone soon enough.
  • Seriously? Is there a way to dislike THIS comment? That is ultra annoying. I don't want the dislike button, period. Please get rid of it or add an option.
  • So pressing dislike just posts "Dislike!" and a link to Digsbys website?
  • Correct, this is interpreted with in Digsby and shown as a Dislike counter. The more of your friends that use Digsby the more this feature will be useful, but at the same time it doesn't require your friends to use Digsby, your point is made. :)
  • still have no FB status update notification yet.. :(
  • Jackie Rosenzveig
I'm happy to hear that 'per char formatting' and 'group chat' are "up next", but these are the two features I've been waiting for since I installed Digsby over a year ago. Wondering why they are still just "next in line". And how long from now do you expect "up next" might take?
  • It wasn't included with this release because it needed some clean up, but we are just about done with it. Shouldn't be too much longer.
  • DanC
Would be great if you could add groups within groups (hierarchical group display) to support jabber, like Exodus does. Digsby will be really great then.
  • It seems very good but why digsby isn't good enough for voice chat !? Please work on it.
  • Andrew
I would love love love a separate facebook window like the twitter one

  • blue
Can you perhaps work on the addition of plugins for Digsby like pidgin has - that way you can spread the load of improvement wider and make the app better, faster!

Would kill tigers for that new feature.
    Thanks ;)
  • Please don't hurt any tigers. :)
  • Up next is per-character formatting (so you can finally bold parts of an IM), group chat (long overdue)

Excited for group chat! I was just saying to myself when I clicked to read this blog, "Group chat? :D?"
  • audi
Integration with Skype? just the chat will do!

Moderated before posting? How rich. Nothing like a dictatorship ..
  • We moderate to prevent spam/foul language, and to respond to each comment as necessary. Everything gets approved as long as its not vulgar or spam..
  • x2k9x
When are you going to quit jerking around and add Chat room support? This wait is just plain nuts. It should have been one of the first things you add. It is the only thing that is keeping me from switching over from trillian.
  • In the blog post we pointed out that this is long over due and will be available soon, we're working hard here. :)
  • Ajay
is there a way for my Friends to showup in groups as i have them in my FB acct? Now ALL my friends show-up in 1 big list.

It gets hard when you want to quickly find friends from Biz group from all the gaming buddies from FB.

Thanks for creating such a cool tool.
    Ajay
  • Once we switch to Facebook's XMPP implementation this will just work. And I am glad to say that this is already being worked on. :)
  • Achal
I really think there should be a black and a red variant of the windows 7 skin... I've been hoping for that for some time now...
    Thanks!

    I like it....

    Hi Digsby,

I am longing a version for Apple Mac. I am using digsby for a very long time and I don't feel switching to any other IMS 'll satisfy me other than Digsby. Need this very soon.
  • We hear you loud and clear! We will be working very hard to finish this up ASAP.
  • WasupitsJim
I am so incredibly excited for the per-character formatting!!! My friends and I stayed on AIM for a long time because we were waiting for it, and when we finally broke down and switched...we started talking to each other like this:

I am so EXCITED for your party!

    Yeah - we're nerds :-D
  • Mark Tomlinson
BIG LIKE - nice job guys!
  • Erik
Thanks for continued updates and a great product!
Would really really like to see option for tabs on the side for conversation windows.
  • spartanhooah
I can't log in to my Facebook chat anymore; I'm getting an authentication error. I even tried changing my FB password, but no luck. WTF??
  • ErickD
Sorry about that. Could you submit a bug report after it fails to authenticate? Help > Submit Bug Report
  • spartanhooah
It somehow resolved itself. Sorry I couldn't be of more help (although now I'm happy).
  • Digsby I LOVE YOU, i dont know how i got by without you till now. ONLY thing i COULD want more is a Window mobile app..... but I use the windows app on my 5 pcs and work PCs.... LOVE IT!

Also few days ago when FB plugin stopped working it was nice to get a message that you were working on it.

Keep up the great work guys!
  • Himanshu
woww......this thing is superb..........but when r u gettin one for mobile????

thts the next gen way of staying connected .......so i feel you should make one for cell phone as well........just like Gtalk, Facebook, Yahoo........etc...
  • Peter G
Facebook connection failed with new version. My problem or yours?
  • ErickD
Not sure. Could you submit a bug report with more info? Help > Submit Bug Report
  • Joel
i'd love to be able to see the current statuses of my facebook buddies within my contact list--just like i can see it for AIM, yahoo, etc.

...unless i am missing something and it already does exist?
  • Dan
Great work on Digsby guys, its by far the best messaging client I've ever used. I look forward to seeing what other tricks you've got up your sleeve for later releases! Thanks
  • Mellie
How about supporting different user icons for different screen names?
  • Any chance you plan to implement the status tag feature from facebook
  • Digsby
That's not exposed via their API yet unfortunately.
  • jonathandang4tw
Can you guts add support to PLURK ASAP?
    that will be fantastic!
    thanks your working!~
  • kitty_hk
can you add more smileys and buzz feature???
  • bubbles
an integrated tumblr app would be cool as well. :)
  • altaluz
would b nice to simply use digsby sometimes, instead of waiting minutes every third time for "updates"
  • ...what?
  • zymanq
    nice update....
  • NoirRaven
"Up next is per-character formatting" So does that mean my text box will appear totally black again or do I still need to contend with just a black highlight?
  • John Hey
Awesome app and great updates - thanks! May I add to the wishlist - 1) group/multi-chat, 2) tablet support (inking) and 3) having Digsby start and stay in the tray w/o the contact list being open. Thanks again!
  • Dan
I can't seem to bold, underline, or italicize any specific parts of the chat, it still bolds everything i type, and i checked the help>about digsby and have build 26321.
  • femme
It's in the blog post - it's not implemented yet. It's "up next."
  • That's because per-character formatting hasn't been implemented. Did you read the Blog Post? It was made clear =P
  • cryogenix
I've been really wanting and waiting for a customizable "Listening to" status so that I can still add some extra text whenever I'm listening to music. Please please please =) More power!
  • Kon
Hell ya! 3 things I've been waiting for: (1) per-character formatting, (2) group chat and (3) per-user/buddy alerts!!

    Thanks, Digsby Dudes.
  • Another improvement needed is the conversation window. there are too many boxes and borders. Its very confusing to find what my friend typed and what i type. You need to make simple groups. Dont have a separate box for the user name and separate box for his chats. merge them. This will reduce unnecessary chaos.
Another thing is the Text size. When i change the text size, in my preferences. It only applies to my chats. The person who sends me chats, his size is too small and unaffected. Is this a bug ?
  • Achal
In case you haven't already, try going to preferences and click skins. i found some of them to be quiet awesome. As for changing the person you're talking with's text size, it won't work when you choose your own text size. Instead, try pressing ctrl, then scrolling up/down for zooming in/out respectively. I hope that helps :).
  • Thanks for update. But the skins still need to be border-less and transparent like Trillian. The current digsby window has big min,max icons. And on my XP they look horrible. When are we getting light and sleek digsby. But i love the simplicity.
  • chans
how to buzz! anyone in digsby YM or msn?
is there any feature support that?
  • Eddie
    bueno so far :D
  • Hey, noticed a bug with the newest version in Windows 7.

The Aero Peek for conversation windows no longer renders the window, but instead renders a large version of the buddy icon of the person you're chatting with.

    Example:

    http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/1954/bugsbyj.png

I've restarted the app and this continues to happen, so I'm pretty sure it's something Digsby-specific. Also note that the buddy list renders properly in Peek, so it seems limited to just the conversation window.
  • Richard
I actually like this change. Its easier to see who you are talking to... This should be a feature, rather than a bug... :P
  • Yeah, I realized after I had commented that it's probably a feature, after I opened up multiple chat tabs.
  • ErickD
We're still figuring it out :) Be sure to submit a bug report though about things acting strange. Help > Submit Bug Report
  • Mine's doing that too. Thought it was a new feature. Will submit a bug report.
  • My dislike button on Facebook isn't showing, i have Build 26231
  • ErickD
Sorry about that, could you submit a bug report with more info? Help > Submit Bug Report
  • demizach
Nice update. Any chance of an option to start Digsby with the contact list minimized? I have mine set to auto-hide, but minimized would be a nice improvement.
  • kirrashi
I like the streamlining of the facebook feeds, and commenting from the alert is pretty neat too!
I can't wait to be able to use italics an bold again though, this is the only thing about digsby that consistently annoys me!
  • gkellett
Awesome. Great product - keep up the good work!
  • Brenda
PLEASE make digsby screen reader friendly. AKA - able to use it and access various windows (chat history) without a mouse.
  • JP3
if im playing a game in window mode and i get a pop up, will it affect me on the game?
  • ErickD
You can disable alerts when running full-screen apps via Preferences > Status > then disable any options under "When running full screen applications"
  • Good as always
  • ErickD
    Thanks! We appreciate it.
  • Can I disable these Dislike links? To me it's just interface clutter.
  • Kel
Still can't use yahoo through firewall... Shame really, unless I'm missing some special setting other than the "always http" checkbox.
  • ErickD
Could you send more info via Help > Submit Bug Report ?
  • EJM
I want to display a profile picture to only 1 of logged in screen names. Even if the 2 logged in ids are 2 yahoo ids. Can this be added?
  • this is great... ^___^ big thnx!
  • EJM
When someone pings me it takes a few seconds for the popup to appear and freezes my pc during this load time for the popup. Is this a PC issue or Digsby issue?
  • ErickD
Not sure, could you submit a bug report after that happens? Help > Submit Bug Report
  • Nice, but sending a "BUZZ" is still not available
  • Steven
And you continue to ignore Mac users... shame really.
  • ErickD
Progress is definitely being made. We didn't want to spread the team too thin.
  • I'd prefer to see bug fixes and common feature requests in the Windows version before a mac client is released.
  • What the heck are you talking about Steven? Are you saying that Macs aren't personal computers?

And to generalize about the amount of bugs that developers implement in entirely different operating systems is a little silly.
  • Steven
As with everything Mac, we are highly unlikely to have the number of bugs that PCs have with everything.

It seems like 0.5% of the dev time is being spent on the Mac platform. With the way Adium is progressing, you may as well give up because they are always going to be light years ahead of you given your pro-PC disposition.
  • rocky
    gooodjob guys! truly appreciated!
  • ErickD
    Thank you!
  • Please please add a Clear Chat window option, ASAP. And, can we put conversation tabs on the side, or just on top? I can't find it. Love these new updates, though! :)
  • John
    Windows Messenger?!
  • PGA
Why can´t I have 2 different status messages on my msn IMs? Please!
  • skoWWi
Digsby needs hotkeys for "show contact list" something like ctrl+shift a would be nice!
  • Sachin
Does nobody want the ability to get a notification when a particular friend gets online? Its distracting to have notifications for everyone. Please, buddy pounce, please.
  • Digsby
We do get requests for that one relatively often... wish there were more hours in the day :)
  • hi i would like to include a donload button onmy website witha logo of digsby on that button...can u gimme the code......plz....thnx ..
  • Silver
Is there a way to sort saved statuses, like alphabetically or something? If not, is it coming?

As someone who has 200+ saved statuses, that'd be really helpful...
  • Do you have any plans to make a fully transparent skin, except friend/list/service names? That's pretty much all I want to see. :)
  • alex
Aim is broken for me after updating.
  • ronnytiaka
First use of digsby...awesome... just hope for next update group for facebook contact and IRC connection
  • I WANT TO INCLUD THE DOWNLOAD LINK IN MY WEBSITE CAN I VE CODE FOR THE BUTTON WITH THE LOGO OF DIGSBY ON IT......THANXIF POSSIBLE PLZ REPLY ON ASIF@SOON.COM
  • Digsby
You can get banners + buttons here:

    http://www.digsby.com/spreadtheword/
  • Mina Safwat
Thanks for everything, any plans to support sametime ?
  • freefranticmag
    Love it =)
  • Hammy
It's about goddamn time (in regard to the per-character formatting). Jesus CHRIST.
  • Hardi
Any plan to goes mobile (symbian, windows mobile, etc)?

Any plan to connect with blackberry messenger?
  • Ilya
Thank you for Windows 7 Support!
  • Great Update. But, it would be great to be able to associate a language to a user so that the spell checker dont try to check in a foreign language.
  • George
Is there any way to move the chat logs?
  • Adam
Looking forward to the mac version. This is one of the programs I miss from the change to a macbook
  • ásgeir
great update. But there is still one minor thing that you should add and that is the option to change your status from available to away in the windows 7 jumplist menu.
  • mikros
I hope you are going to support file transfers of files with Cyrillic in the name (and I guess other encodings, if they don't work).
  • Nate
No more task bar preview for win7? I just have a huge buddy icon instead now and it has a separate window for each conversation on the task bar even though it is only one window....quite inconvenient and annoying
  • Digsby
There are taskbar previews. If you tell windows taskbar options not to combine items then it won't combine them.
  • demanik
Maybe there is a way how to change this HUGE buddy icons? They are not in the good quality now... Or even missing. And I see HUGE digsby icon
  • Moh
When are we getting more then 1 person chats? I try to invite people to my chat but I cant, but they can
  • Andrew
    It's in the blog post.
  • Blake
When using the dislike button, does that show up in any way on Facebook? or only on the feeds of others that have digsby and facebook linked?
  • Digsby
It shows up on facebook as a comment. It shows up for other Digsby users as a count which can be expanded just like "likes" do.
  • Blake
    Awesome! LIKE!
  • Roy
Looking forward to trying the new features, thank you!

    I hope future versions include:
    - Better RTL support
    - custom smileys
    - Google buzz
  • Franco
Thanks for the update! It's great! Wish we could chat while in invisible status!
  • Digsby
We need to upgrade our MSN protocol to do it.
  • Oh hey, I would certainly love that. I often use Messenger just to avoid going online.
  • Franco
Thanks... and is there a plan to do that?
  • awesome
  • it is so much eaiser and better i can now put dislike if i want and comment on my friends on myspace i love it and it makes life eaiser. keep up the awesome work
  • Trey
These changes are all just great, but I'm wondering how the ability to define your own sounds and log locations in the preferences are STILL not options. Even if you go through the trouble to replace the default sounds with other .wav files or edit the configuration files manually, each time digsby updates the changes go back to defaults.

It's a bad situation when every time you guys improve your application instead of being excited about whatever changes you've come up with I think "oh crap digsby is updating again, now I have to go back and edit all the configuration files..."
  • dag
thumbs up,,, great work,,, yet still I wonder, why can't I IM my contacts while I'm invisible ?!
  • How about ctrl+pgUp/pgDown for cycling between tabs? It seems long overdue.
  • Not bad. I'll have to check the win7 features once I get home.

OneRiot seems pretty spammy, but it was easy enough to disable. Sorry Digsby team. As much as I like you getting money for this, they blend in with the actual content too much. Maybe if they were labeled a little more clearly as ads.

I like the dislike, though FB really needs to implement it.

I don't know what your stats look like, but I'm assuming you have a fair number of myspace users. I'm definitely not, and I would love to see more updates to FB, twitter and of course the oft-requested mac/linux ports.

As always, I'm loving it :-)
  • ekos
    rock on digsbies! :)
  • dickdekker
still love the updates.....however the Skype chat is where I am waiting for....
  • Benbo
@Digsby : Great Release! Thanks! Only thing I see wrong right now is the [dislike] button is not available on the popup windows only the direct facebook feed. I don't know if this was intentional or a bug. Kepp up the great work!
  • With Yahoo Mail is it possible that the delete feature instead of deleting permanently, it sends it to the trash folder?
  • proxemics
love you guys. keep it up!!!
  • Sean
I just wanted to say that every time I think I'm getting tired of Digsby, you guys (and ladies?) come out with some awesome new features that keep me hooked. Don't listen to the haters; keep doing what you're doing.
  • Ashish
Whaddya mean? Digsby has no haters. Alright?
  • MrGingerbear
    RSS feed reader??
  • Ashish
Yeah, and then a browser and then a word-processor, a spreadsheet software, and then a movie maker and image processor and then throw in some games and then make an OS. Plzz..
  • MrGingerbear
RSS reader is pretty standard.. and since Digsby advertises that they bring multiple forms of social media together it makes sense. RSS readers are small and relatively easy to write... Did you seriously just compare an RSS reader to an OS?
  • letoren
    Excelente trabajo. =)
  • I LOVE digsby!!! Thanx for the new release.
Oh BW, when will be available some radio support?

    regards, zoli
  • IRC?
  • Dave
I'd really like to see IRC support as well. I thought it would be relatively easy and hopefully not far off.
  • Indeed, when these guys have IRC it's the ONLY chat app I will ever recommend again! I love digsby.

Also, this is a cool new build with good features, but guys please plug in an IRC library!
  • Do you have any plans of adding new IM services? Millions of Polish people are still waiting for gadu-gadu support :)
  • Ashish
Dear millions of Polish people, please start using msn/yahoo/gtalk
  • oh, we have never thought of that, thanks :)
  • chipper
love what you've done for the pc. still waiting for the mac version...please!!!
  • Steve
Great work, keep it up! one thing i would love would be for my pop-ups to scroll automatically rather than having to click over myself.
  • Hakimy
just to make sure, did you add ads to facebook window? I saw ads for popeater and wall street journal in the facebook window! oh and anything new for MSN? you know, the ability to chat while being invisible? thanks ;)
  • Digsby
Look at feature #4 of the blog post.
  • Guys,
You are using the best language in the world. But maybe you can give to us access for API Digsby.
It will be so cool If I can write python-plugin which would automatization some action, for example, auto-replay for stupid messages as "hi. How are you."

But anyway, Thx for Digsby. I love it!
  • I'm sure you get this a lot, but I'd like to +1 this suggestion. You've stated before that Digsby is fairly modular (referring to making sure it's ready/able to be ported to mac/linux) and as such it seems that a module system would go a long way. Let a couple volunteers write the lesser known chat protocol plugins :-)
  • Did you put advertisments in the Facebook feed? I don't follow TMZ.com on facebook and it's shown up on my feed now! What gives?
  • Digsby
Look at feature #4 of the blog post.
  • Thanks for clarifying. :) Digsby ftw.
  • Jay
    Hey

My auto-update downloaded everything. But I don't see any changes either in appearance or per-character formatting. I have restarted the program a few times. But still, no change.
    My build is 26321.

  • ^That's because per-character formatting hasn't been implemented. Did you read the Blog Post? It was made clear =P
  • Please tell me that we'll be able to be invisible and still talk to MSN people.
  • sayed
    yes, Excellent work.
  • loy
I just updated it and already restart my digsby and still the dislike button not appear in my newsfeed
  • Digsby
Make sure clicking Help > About shows 26321
  • pitok
will be any shortcut to change active tab in IM window? (for example F5)
  • Digsby
Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab can be used to change tabs in the IM window.
  • pitok
    thank you!!
  • ncovill
I'm still waiting for AIM direct connect :(
  • banjoann
i like the new skins :)
  • Chris
Are we ever going to be able to bold/italicize/underline just the selected text, instead of the entire message? Is it 1994?
  • demortes
Seriously, read the blog posts... You're stuck in 1994, can't read.
  • Digsby
You should read the blog post.
  • vixorien
Yeah, I read it. Just noting that it's about time.
  • MrJM
Please don't try to be clever.

You're not very good at it.
  • loy
but my Facebook newsfeed just has Like and Comment. I cannot find any dislike button there
  • Digsby
Sounds like you didn't get the update yet. It may take a few restarts.
  • d34th
Awesome update. Can't wait for group conversations!
  • Max
Digsby is truly an amazing achievement guys. Thanks heaps.
  • cadyer00
just keeps getting better and better
  • make it possible to block people on aim
  • Digsby
Right click and choose block. Or in IM window click the dropdown arrow on the very right side of the actions bar that is at the top of the window.
  • Martyn
great work just waiting for skype chat now
  • Digsby
That would be pretty sweet :)
  • Mr. Poet
Skype. Need Skype. Is it a possibility in the near future?
  • We hope so.
  • sweet! i can't wait for osx/*nix support. digsby is awesome! i have recommended it to all my friends and family. i'm still stuck with adium on osx. =\ it'd be tight if you guys had an iPhone app as well since it's similar to osx/darwin engine. it shouldn't be too bad. ;) great work! keep it up.
  • This is what I'm saying! I've been a Digsby spokes person so far lol and all I want is to be able to use it on my Macbook.
  • Eric
A few things for the Windows 7 integration.

    1. Would it be possible to combine the same contact for multiple services (if I talk to Bob on gChat and AIM, having him only show up once in the jumplist and then when I click on him, use the preferred chat service that is set when combining contacts).
    2. Could you add an option to minimum the buddy list to the taskbar when you click the X (instead of going to the tray).

    3. When I pin Digsby to the taskbar and someone talks to me, their picture no longer shows up on the taskbar, instead the Digsby icon is always there). Is there any way to fix this?

    Thanks!
  • Digsby
It's going to take a bit of time to make the win7 stuff ideal. Thank you for the feedback!
  • Eric
Wow, I really need to learn to reread for typos :/

Anyways, thanks for a great product!
  • EnviMea
    Awesome. Totally loving it.
  • Yury23
How do i disable the 'dislike option'. I understand it isn't installed to my account until I install it, but is there a way to remove the option entirely from the feed?
  • Digsby
    Just don't click it :)
  • I would much rather be able to turn it off. It's a horrible way to implement that feature anyway, where it makes you post a COMMENT to the item without asking you first.
  • it asked you to click on it, didn't it?
  • Yury23
Heh. Seriously though, great work. I switched from Pidgin a little over a year ago and I use Digsby on all PC's and recommend it to all friends.

On a more serious note, is there really no way to disable the 'dislike'?

Also, the facebook news feed seems to be displaying updates only from certain people, as if its not catching all of the feed.
  • alaaeldein
    soooooooooooooooooooooooooooo nice
  • saakgaa
it is so sweet like my gf.....love it
  • soad
    integration with skype??
  • dalsr
i am having some issues with my digsby some day it just decided not to show all my emails anymore but i see them all in the accounts preferences thing. how do i fix it, i tried reinstalling didnt work. thanks
  • Digsby
Not sure. Use Help > Send Bug Report and include a screenshot showing the issue.
  • dalsr
i have done that a while ago account
  • Karim
    Excellent!!
  • Nick
The jump list for windows7 is nice in regards to creating a new IM window, but unless you have your contact's id memorized, you will have to go back to your contact list and select them from there. How about when you use the New IM from the jump list, it will use predictive/suggestive text to select who you want to talk to? That way you can easily get the contact from the list and don't have to remember their full ID.
  • wadegoodman
Awesome. Thanks for the new stuff. Any chance of adding SKYPE chat?
  • DT
When will the much awaited multi-person conversations (group chat) be implemented?
  • Dan
I like the notification changes... I think the best improvement would simply be automatic resizing of the buddy list window.
  • marinos
Is Digsby going to be translated in Greek???
  • Moe
Will Digsby ever go on phone platforms like the Android?
  • richie
    Great new release!
Is there a way to turn the new Tab-Preview of Digsbys Windos 7 Taskbar off? No I need 2 clicks to reopen a currently minimized conversation with a buddy - I used to need just one. Also ICQ Pictures have a very low resolution so it looks ugly!

Btw - still the ICQ Status Message won't work - my gtalk buddies can read them but my ICQ buddies don't :(
  • Dipset
Control+Click to bring up last tabbed window. This is for anything iN Win7
  • toty
so sweet program i love it
  • Lisa
i am so excited about your mention of group chat. my company uses Yahoo chat conferences (IM only) during maintenances and i have to install the bloatware yahoo client for these today. "conferencing" is the only reason i still have to occasionally use the yahoo client.
  • loy
hey guys, how to use the facebook dislike button?
  • Digsby
It's on the Facebook newsfeed in Digsby under each post right next to the Like link.
  • greg
how come the dislike button doesn't work?
  • RV
Hmmm why do I now show 2 Digsby icons on my task bar? One is pinned, one is unpinned. Strange...
  • Digsby
Unpin the pinned on and pin the active one.
  • The Southern California Weather Authority forecast office uses Digsby and these auto updates are beautiful. You guys have done a stand-up job and we all appreciate it!
  • WhiteNightNinja
very nice I cant disagree it helps me alot because I get emails and IM alot and well now I don't need to browser at all thanks :D!
  • Res
Can you take off where it gives you a new tab on Windows 7 for each conversation? It bugs the hell out of me.
  • JimD
Can't you just group your conversation windows?
  • Digsby
You can change the windows 7 taskbar preferences to not group items together.
  • That's not enough. That will make all of my other applications ungroup which is not what I want. It now takes 2 clicks to get to my Digsby IM window, every single time. Before it took 1 click. It's just bad UI design to require you to click more for a very common task. If I want different contacts to appear as different windows, I will make them not tabbed.
  • Hover on the icon first, then click on the exact tab you want => 1 click :D
  • Jorge
I love it! Digsby is the best =)
  • You put your focus on MySpace crap before the per-character formatting and group chat? Do people even still use MySpace? Still, it's good to know these things are in development.
  • wraith
Yeah. Still not reinstalling this until group chat works. My need for collaboration is more than my need for one client to handle multiple protocols.
  • Joe
They put a lot before per-character formatting and group chat: currently Twitter has less than half as many visits as Myspace does and that also was implemented first. So yes, people still use it (even though it seems to be on its way down), they just use Facebook more (nearly 3x as many visits as Myspace).
    http://siteanalytics.compete.com/myspace.com+facebook.com+twitter.com/
As for Digsby, looking forward to everything you guys have up your sleeves in the future!
  • gs03622
    xbox live integration?
  • Antelmo
    LOL..
  • gs03622
something funny? i want to be able to see who is online and send them messages on xbox live from digsby
  • gs03622
thanks tom, and oh, nope :) im serious! :D
  • tom
Just add their xbox live address as a windows live contact, and that will work for you
  • Antelmo
it's just that I dont know any IM service that supports Xbox live, and I thought you were joking no offense LOL...
  • Jerald
    Does it update automatically?
  • Digsby
    Yup - just restart Digsby.
  • Excellent work.
  • jeff
sweet! i love this thing. do i get anything for being #1?
  • Great work guys
  • abhishek
SuperAwesome !! But where is the long awaited multi lingual dictionary support ?? Digsy harnesses the power of Aspell but still there is no multi language dictionary support. Please implement this as well. Otherwise, digsby is an incredible application and I love it.
  • Ashish
Abhishek, I think digsby should also support web-browsing and media playing and also should have a file explorer. Apart from that, I wouldn't mind it doubling up as a word-processor and spreadsheet software. What do you say? Can you even imagine what percent of users would care about "multi-lingual" dictionary support. You know you should also exercise your mind before exercising your fingers on keyboard.
  • Abhishek
Ashish, Do you even know what you are talking about ? I don't reply to noobs trolling around on internet. Multi lingual dictionary is indeed a good feature to have in digsby especially when aspell is being used. I know where you belong to and what kind of environment you have brought up in. Learn to type in your language at least if you can not respect rest of the non english chatters. There are a lot of digsby users who would like to type in the language of their choice if given an opportunity. I just wasted a few minutes of mine replying to your question which apparently must have fried your peanut sized brain!!
  • Javi
hahah WTF.. ashish you're a retard
  • Digsby
We think a majority of users would. Facebook says 70% of its users are outside the US so it makes sense that spell-check in multiple languages could be something that 70% appreciates.
  • seanet
considering the US like to change the english language "multi-lingual" support is handy just for the rest of us English speaking country's.

ie please add other English dictionary packages dont just assume the US way is the only
  • Digsby

indeed ! i think you could host a forum topic about translation as they did on the maxthon M3 version , still alpha btw. they all get their names in the credit list but the translations were done free , it's a good and easy way to do it
  • Ple-e-ease, add multilanguage spellcheck as soon as possible.
  • In the mean time use Lingoes multilanguage translator if it's helpful at http://www.lingoes.net/ comes with many langiage support too, not quite a spelchecka

Also, when restarting Digsby, the check for updates no longer finds any updates.
  • Digsby
After login, use Help > Send Bug Report to submit a diagnostic log and mention that autoupdate isn't working properly.

Are you planning to support the same style of retweets that the Twitter web interface has? Currently Digsby just prepends RT, like before Twitter had explicit support for this.
  • Digsby
Probably. We wanted to leave it for now as people got used to it and it solidified a bit in terms of implementation.
  • I'd love to see this. Especially since twitter's RT implementation seems to make it easier to post over-140-character tweets with auto-links to the original. So many times I've tried to RT something poignant only to find out the source is almost at 140 already.
  • I know whenever I tweet it's 140 characters minimum. =P
  • Thomas
    custom smilies please!

I like the new update, especially the new notifications and how the window does not flash when you reply to a pop up.
