Build 75 – Private Alpha Release

We just pushed an update to alpha testers (Build 75, r25077 r25091 r25144 r25261) which includes a large number of bug fixes and enhancements.  As always, you can read the entire list of enhancements on our Change Log. Notable changes include:

  • Fixed several of the most common crash causing bugs
  • Fixed several issues with Twitter that caused Tweets to show in the wrong order on the timeline
  • Blocked buddies now show a “blocked” icon where their status icon would normally appear on the buddy list

We are close to pushing the release to all users so if you experience any issues please use “Help > Send Bug Report” in the main menu to submit a diagnostic log or email us at bugs@digsby.com.

If you would like to become an alpha tester and get new releases before everyone else, download this file and place it in the main program folder. Keep in mind that as an alpha tester you may get a release with a few bugs every now and then.  We are looking for people who are proactive in reporting these issues so we can fix them before builds go out to all users.

Update 1 (11/16/2009 2:50pm): We just pushed an update fixing an issue that caused sent IMs to ICQ users to show as HTML.  The new build number is now 25091.

Update 2 (11/17/2009 1:25pm): One more small patch just got pushed out.  This one fixes the HTML in IMs issue for Pidgin buddies, fixes a bug that broke blocking in AIM, and updates the icon for MSN buddies that you block right away instead of when you click away from them.  The new build number is 25144.

Update 3 (11/24/2009 11:00am): Another small patch that includes two fixes for Twitter: a bug linking URLs that included the “#” character and an improvement made to the way “new style” re-tweets are displayed. The new build number is 25261.

hi, i have to say my usage of digsby has declined alot in recent months, maybe its because the whole software seems so bloated now? i use to enjoy the lightweight and fast connecting. I think an option to include and exclude certain Im features would be useful

For example, i dun ever use facebook, twitter , in fact all i use is msn and yahoo. so all that are ueseless to me and if u guys can make it a Option and it helps speed up the program, it's worth working on. Pls dun turn into another crapware, keep digsby on what it;s always about, a lightweight and easy to use program.

    Thank u

Agreeing with vitor. I'm using Digsby running in a virtual machine right now with Jolicloud as my host OS. Pidgin and Empathy just don't cut it. The lack of features in both of them is disappointing. Digsby blows them away. I'd at least like to see a version out that's more compatible with Wine, as that's being adopted as a good method to run Windows programs under Linux. It's not perfect, but it'd work.
  • vitor
    Linux version... please... :(
    Pidgin sux, Empathy sux.

Digsby shows facebook, twitter and all my pop mail updates... please, make a Linux version!

    :)

    please

My god guys. What were you thinking with all the crapware, hompage changements and subtly adding research modules for god knows what. Thanks for being honest and transparent. This is why no votes from me this year. I would next time think twice before sneaking things behind users' backs! Very unhappy user at the moment!

Quick note: I wanted to comment on the twitter idea but I can't anymore because comments are closed.
Further, I do hope that digsby auto subscribes me to the comments so that in the event that it does receive a response, I know about it. It would be nice to remove that option as well.

    Re: Twitter
At first I was a person who was like I can't believe they are not using the multi-column idea but then thought, it's pretty nice focusing on just the important people and segregating the real value ones from the ordinary chatter.

It would be nice to see it integrated with lists. Nearly every twitter client I use, they want me to create new groups without allowing me to search through my followers when adding them. This makes it all the more work. It turns me off them.

One reason I don't use digsby is because my lists really have most of my important clients on twitter, and until that implementation gets broader in digsby, I'll still be opening tweetdeck and seismic.

The entire argument for buying a Mac anymore is a strawman fallacy masking a desire to buy a fashionable and trendy brand. A portable Digsby would be sweet, can't wait for something like that to come out.
  • Hi, I still can't log into AIM, it keep saying "Loading Contacts List..." and it remains as is forever! Please, do something about this.
  • I still got the problem with my ICQ Account and the HTML formatting. All my Friends using Audium (Mac) getting my messages as html text :/
  • Steve G

For the love of all things good and right please add a simple RSS news reader to Digsby with the ability to link an article to social network status updates!
  • Jon
i tried blocking a user on MSN to see if it showed a block icon next to their name in the buddy list.. but it didn't. tried signing off and back on to see if that fixed it.. but still didn't.

not sure if that's what you meant by the icon.. ?

Alpha failed. On restart of the app, there was a message displayed to rename something to digsby.exe. I was already typing in another app so the message got cleared too quickly. Digsby wouldn't start. Digsby.exe was only 6KB. Renamed digsby.clone to digsby.exe, success.

    And now there's another alpha.

@babazoo: Yup. The long number is the edit number in our code repository and the release number is where we tag it as a point in the code where we release it to users.

@Graham: Working on that now actually :)

@Antoine: The updates are incremental. This would should have been around 2.5MB because some of the larger DLL files had changes for crash fixes. The whole installer is around 17.8MB.
  • Thanks for your great product. Just became an alpha tester.

Quick question as we (in Beirut) still have some quota (download/upload limits) for the Internet connection (yes it's possible!) : is it possible to get some incremental updates instead of a full package download each time ?

    Cheers,

    Antoine

Happy to become an Alpha Tester when you release a portable version of Digsby.

  • I have build 25077, is that build 75? lol
I've always wanted to ask that. lol
  • edgardcastro
Update is failing. Pre updater crashes on Windows 7. Had to manually update copying the files.
